Being secretly filmed

I took my family to see my partners house when we were in the area. He knew I was popping in to show them the new house but didn’t realise he filmed us and listened to our conversations.
I actually felt sick when he said he watched the footage after we left. He doesn’t seem to think it is an issue. I really don’t want to go back there on my own or with my family.
He believes that it is his house so is entitled to protect it with cameras and can watch the footage at any time. Surely he should at least tell people they are being filmed when they visit. Am being overly sensitive and AITA.

Deal-breaker for me, especially the non-disclosure. End of relationship

Mazuslongtoenail · 10/03/2024 12:41

That would be it for me. Serious lack of boundaries and plain weird. Absolutely not.

YetMoreNewBeginnings · 10/03/2024 12:42

I’d end a relationship for that. Hes entitled to do what he wants in his home, but you’re entitled to know if you have zero privacy there.

Watching it back and listening to your conversations is completely out of order.

Did he just announce he’d filmed you or did he take umbridge at something that was said?

WorkingFromHomeShite · 10/03/2024 12:42

Why did you take them to see his house? Did he find it a bit of a weird request? Is that why he had his cameras on? I need more info I think!

littlebirdieblu · 10/03/2024 12:43

Massive invasion of your privacy, totally unacceptable. I would not want to continue the relationship

Gingernaut · 10/03/2024 12:43

You're not being over sensitive

This is intrusive and it's shit behaviour

Security while the house is empty or pet watching would be "OK", but out and out spying on someone you're supposed to trust is an absolute deal breaker

Run a fucking mile and block him everywhere

Neveranynamesleft · 10/03/2024 12:44

Today's weirdo right there.....

SeeYouInMyDreams · 10/03/2024 12:45

Are they cameras that are there all the time? Or did he set them it for your family visiting?

We have some security cameras but we never watch stuff back without reason. Like us bring burgled! It’s very odd that he’s watched the conversations.

SeeYouInMyDreams · 10/03/2024 12:46

being

AntonFeckoff · 10/03/2024 12:46

I’d wonder what else he’d filmed

Fraaahnces · 10/03/2024 12:49

Have you had sex in his home? Can he guarantee that you weren’t filmed?

Picklestop · 10/03/2024 12:49

Not the point of the thread, but I find it odd that you were showing your parents your partners house. Confused

But yes, the filming without you ur knowledge or consent is very disturbing and definitely a dumping offence.

As it is a holiday house I was showing them around as we had hoped they would use it for mid week breaks.

He tripped himself up by mentioning they didn’t take their shoes off and then he admitted he had replayed the footage on camera.

It is 1 camera in living room which can also see down hall to entrance door. Meant to be used when we are not in the house during the week.

NO that is not on. And if he is so callous, then what other creepie tendencies does he have? I am sure this is not allowed by law to secretly film within the home, holiday home, hotel room etc, so hmm. This would be a dealbreaker for sure

PossumintheHouse · 10/03/2024 12:58

So he’s had the camera for a while and has never disclosed that he’s filming? Have you used that holiday house alone in the past? How often do you both use it?
It’s seriously creepy behaviour and I’d constantly feel paranoid that he’d set up a camera in the bedroom or bathroom.

So he was going to continue filming you and watching it without saying?

Bin him off. He has no respect whatsoever.

Gettingonmygoat · 10/03/2024 14:42

What else has he filmed ? I wouldn't trust him an inch.

StoneTheCrone · 10/03/2024 14:47

Creep. Where are the cameras? Bedroom? Bathroom?

This is why i feel uneasy about holiday homes. I imagine spy cameras everywhere.

mathanxiety · 10/03/2024 14:52

It's time to end the relationship and block him.

Don't worry about him. He won't be too sad - he has hours and hours of footage of you to watch to his heart's content

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 10/03/2024 14:57

I'd be worried that there were other cameras I don't know about.
And if he watches other people when they are renting the place.
I wouldn't be able to trust him after this.

anareen · 10/03/2024 15:00

I believe the law would be on his side.

Whether this is in accordance with your morals etc is for you to decide 🙂

Starlight7080 · 10/03/2024 15:03

Have you told your family? So you both want them to stay there and you film them? And he thinks that's normal?
Do you rent to other people? Do they know they have been filmed ?

Did you know the camera was there before you took family there, or only afterwards when he told you he'd watched the footage?
