What to wear on first date.

I'm 44, I haven't been on a date for years, I'm planning a coffee date and I have no clue what to wear. Was thinking something like this, perhaps with denim jacket, but is it too much for coffee? Any suggestions welcome, I'm 5'3 size 10-12.

I don't like it, sorry. I'd go with wide leg jeans, trainers and a nice jumper. Is it a day time coffee?

Not too much at all. I’d just say go with whatever is your usual style dressed up a bit.

I’ve worn dresses for a coffee/drinks date I’ve also worn leather leggings with a wrap top or shirt.

Best advice is to be comfortable and don’t dress in a way that not really you. Be yourself

Well time hasn't been agreed yet, but yes I'm assuming late afternoon. I could pull off the jeans and T, but the second pic isn't my style.

Thanks for the advice. I wear dresses, dungarees and jeans mostly. I have a little time to order lots of new clothes and fret over it. Will hopefully be worth it!

Go with something you already have that you're comfortable and happy in. Don't overthink it.

I never dress up for dates anymore as they’re invariably disappointments in my case, though hoping this isn’t the case for OP!

I actually had one turn up in a suit and tie - for an afternoon coffee date!!

I've ordered the dress but that doesn't matter because I like it and it's something I'd wear anyway, but maybe not out to coffee with my mate, so now I'm having serious doubts about wearing it for coffee with a man. But that's why I posted because I've not been out with a man in years and I don't know what to wear, so I really appreciate all your suggestions. I'm now thinking something like this but probably with doc martens rather than a heel. Thoughts please

I agree. I’d want make a good first impression even if he didn’t. I like scrubbing up even to meet friends so I don’t see it as any different.

If the man turns up looking like he’s just got out of bed, well there won’t be a second date.

Ohhhh, I don't like it sorry. It's a lot with the high neck and long sleeves and tiered hem. You could end up looking like a walking 70s curtain.

I would pair it right back and go jeans, decent top, leather jacket, trainers or boots, and shades.
