Do you do any together?
How do you each find time amongst work and children if you have them?
do you take interest in each other’s hobbies?

No context really, I’m just nosy ! :)

Flatpackedboxes · 19/02/2024 14:32

Mine:dancing
his:none really. Tv or Xbox but not a "gamer"

took the kids with me to dance classes when they were younger and I was a single parent.

does he take an interest? Well he has no choice but to listen to me rabbit on about it. He'll come watch me in my shoes and buy me presents relating to dance.

Humanswarm · 19/02/2024 14:35

We both climb, hike and spend time outdoors. He has a niche hobby which he fits in during the day around work, but it also supplies an income.
I work and currently uni is my 'hobby' or time out, which I enjoy. Neither of us has anything that takes us away from each other much at all. But that's just us and the way things are.

Crishell · 19/02/2024 14:37

Mine: flying. I'm lucky I'm part time so I do it on my days off when DD is at school.

DH: cars/driving. He has a race car and takes it on track a few times a year. He also goes to meets etc.

We're both interested in each other's hobbies but we prefer our own! Occasionally go to combined events like car/air shows.

My DH tends to spend the odd weekend morning or evenings after DD is in bed tinkering with his car which I'm quite happy with as I often get a bit of navigation planning done or prepping for my job. He goes on race days a few times a year which doesn't bother me. I do the same with fly-outs etc.

Magicisuponus · 19/02/2024 14:41

We have separate hobbies as well as joined ones.
I play a sport, he plays a musical instrument. I enjoy watching a couple of concerts a year even though it’s not my kind of music (brass band)
We sometimes do park runs together and enjoy long dog walks.
We generally like similar things (we’re both quite active so if 1 suggests badminton, the other will be happy to book a court)
We like going to gigs, or a pub quiz, so will do them together if we’re both free.
We are a family with teenagers, so are enjoying the freedom of spending more time together.

cinnamonandnutmeg · 19/02/2024 14:51

Mine: music. I play viola and I'm learning to play the harpsichord.

His: sewing, carpentry, anything practical and crafty. He makes his own shirts and he's made some nice wooden furniture for the house.

Shared: baking.

Uncooperativefingers · 19/02/2024 14:54

Him: piano, gym, skiing

Me: horse riding, yoga, crafty stuff

We also do each others hobbies together. Eg, I ride multiple times a week and did so before we met, but he likes to come along once a month or so. We also enjoy walking the dog together

Pllystyrene · 19/02/2024 15:15

Both - Gym, training for obstacle races ( Spartan, Tough Mudder), gaming, bouldering.
Me - Running, pub quizes, bingo, live music... ( and planning holidays I may never actually book 😂)
Husband - kickboxing, music, car stuff, drones, 3D printing.

Occasionally do together, or with friends in a group but often than not on our own while the other watches the kids. Probably do things together 2-4 times a month. Although I'm currently pregnant so can't do alot of the same things at the moment.

MinnieMountain · 19/02/2024 15:20

I swim and read. Swimming is on my days off or before work. Book club is 1 evening a month.

DH plays hockey- evening training only at the moment. He also goes to the gym or for sensible length bike rides in his lunch breaks.

We go for long walks together whenever MIL has DS for a day.

Shared: Biking, hiking, skiing (we live near Geneva so loads of skiing in winter) and badminton.

Our DD is 23 so we don’t have to factor in young kids. We both work full time in very well paid jobs (same company) that are very flexible. We both get 25 days a year holidays and 2 weeks off over Christmas as the site closes.

Shared- climbing, hiking, going away in the campervan, gigs and live music, cycling

Mine- Sewing, gardening, reading

His - maybe not a hobby as such but he's more sociable than me. Also, climmbing is definitely more his thing that he's been doing for years, I only took it up since we got together. He watches climbing documentaries and stuff 🤣

StonwEd · 19/02/2024 18:01

Both - parkrun, general outdoors, walks, hikes, scenery, gigs, drinks and cooking with friends, discovering new food and travel, reading

I crochet, watch more Netflix, spend more time with family, swim a few times a week when I can, learning languages. We both cook but I’m better although when he puts his mind to it he gets amazing results.

He does way more exercise, 2 hours per day plus 3 decent runs a week. He’s very arty so always has a sketch book with him. He’s taught himself Spanish and is really getting on well with that.

WomanInTheBoat · 19/02/2024 18:16

Shared - hiking together and with a group , good food and wine, holidays, quiz nights.

Me - film, theatre, reading ( mostly crime although some general fiction)gym/pilates

Him- model aircraft ( making them, reading about them, going to model shows) DIY, cooking.

Tarkan · 19/02/2024 18:23

Mine: Pilates, crochet, crafting, gaming, wardrobe in local am-dram theatre, and I'm hoping to go back to pole classes soon too. I've also got the latest Panini Premier League sticker album and have some diamond paintings I want to finish off.

DH: Model making (military planes/tanks/ships and occasionally Warhammer with a friend).

Things we do together: Going to local footy matches and we have some Warhammer things we were doing together but haven't done that for a while. We also go to the pub to watch sports together at times or sometimes watch them at home. His work shifts mean we don't have a lot of time together though so sometimes we just go to the pub to chill. We're both also studying different things with the OU, I graduate this year and he's still in his first year.

Our Friday nights at the moment are going to a local shop for the latest Lancaster Bomber partwork for him and a bunch of stickers for me and we sit in the living room each doing our own thing but talking and watching TV together, sometimes with a drink.

FizzyStream · 19/02/2024 18:25
