11 year old wanting a phone.

My daughter is nearly 11, she is off to secondary school soon so will need a phone. I'm thinking about getting her a Nokia one, so she's able to call and text but has none of the other features. I really don't want her getting involved in any of social media rubbish teenagers are obsessed with. But I also don't want other laughing at her. What are people's thoughts on this please?

My DD has a smart phone but it is linked to my three account. This means I have to approve all apps she wants on and I can set age limits for the internet etc .. it also has location tracker on it.

If you are 18 buy your own phone

So to update this thread. I didn't get her a Nokia, I got her A Samsung A15.
I have a high level of controls on it and it never goes up stairs. There have been no problems at all.

All my kids had smartphones for their 11th birthdays. All locked down with parental controls/monitoring. Pretty much every kid at secondary school has a smartphone. The only problem is when they turn 13 and then Google decides they're adults and prompts the child to turn off all the parental controls.

If you want to go further than that I think I saw the other day that Pinwheel is being brought to the UK soon.
