Aye that is shit.

What did you get him?!

2 calendars 😳

Tilllly · 25/12/2023 15:51

In laws got me a selection of biscuits

So family gift really

JasmineBa · 25/12/2023 15:51

I got nothing. My partner and I have been on terrible terms recently and I have intentions of separating. I spent £170 on gifts for DP from the children. I got nothing at all. With the comment ‘I’ve ordered you a gift but it hasn’t come sorry’ and that was that.

QueenConsort · 25/12/2023 15:53

Aftershave, socks, a card, a mug, some nice bits

My brother got maternity pyjamas from his sil, he's skinny as shit too so not even a passive aggressive present.

FixItUpChappie · 25/12/2023 15:53

That is awful JasmineBa - just reaffirms things for you I imagine.

Yes I think so

Frenchyq25 · 25/12/2023 16:32

My husband got from his gran 2 plastic carrier bags (not even bag for life ones) and a pair of gloves that would fit a child .

Shoxfordian · 25/12/2023 16:36

Assume you're dumping him?

QueenConsort · 25/12/2023 16:38

Am I being an ungrateful bitch?

To be fair, socks & a mug are hardly exciting gifts

They all sound like things you'd be gifted at work, from customers etc. Sorry OP. 😕

My best friend got a hamper from a supplier and gifted me the salt and a jar of Harrisa paste from it, in tissue paper.

I got one other gift under the tree this year, a calendar of my dog from the dog walker.

If I were you I'd be tempted to write "dump miserly boyfriend" in the 1st Jan window and hang it up.

I've had my fill of shit presents when I first met DH. I make no bones about the fact I've since trained him and DC to make sure they know how important gift giving is to me. I received a gold necklace and perfume from DH, a coat from eldest DS and a pair of GHDs as a joint gift from my 17 and 19yos.
MIL was also a master at passive aggressive giving, never having forgiven me for taking her golden child. I began rejecting her awful gifts and even she now gives me vouchers.
Set your stall out now, otherwise you're setting yourself up for years or crap Birthdays and Christmases.

StragglyTinsel · 25/12/2023 17:17

STBXH turned up with a box of cheap chocolate for me (‘from’ our DS - it’s not even what I’d choose from the shop he went to, which surely he knows) and a Christmas card. The Christmas card says ‘to my wonderful wife’ on the front. 🤯 I just raised my eyebrows and said nothing about it.

This is a man who is behaving like an unbelievable dick over the financial settlement. I’m actually flabbergasted that he’d intentionally buy that card.

Agreed. If the aftershave was lynx Africa then tbh I think OP did better than her partner!

All the gifts are a bit 'work colleague secret Santa'

I'd say these were on a par with what you received to be honest. Unless the aftershave was an expensive one, but even then...

MIL gave DH (ie HER OWN SON) testicle moisturiser. I couldn’t look him in the eye when he realised what it was.

Did she know what it was? Or was it a mistaken purchase?

🤣🤣🤣 what the fuck is testicle moisturiser? Why would his mother get him that 😂😂

ADesignForLife · 25/12/2023 17:40

She knew. With the rationale “it’s for charity!”… (it’s Oddballs so a great cause, but even so).

After just 6 months I wouldn’t spend a fortune on a new partner cos it’s still early days but I’m sure he could have at least got something more thoughtful or useful…. Unless you need 2 calendars haha

VivaVivaa · 25/12/2023 17:42

Nothing from DH - we’d agreed to no big gifts but I thought there would be a token.
An IOU from my parents for ‘something I want’ with no indication of budget and which I know will never materialise.
Socks and a slightly sad plant from MIL
Siblings didn’t want to do presents so nothing from them.

I’ve given up being disappointed. I just buy myself something nice in the sale instead.

TiredOfSayingItAgain · 25/12/2023 17:43

Your boyfriend of 6 months. Yes, you do sound ungrateful. He should have got you a card, though.

pavementmutation · 25/12/2023 17:45

One calendar for work, one calendar for home.

Is it a particularly nice garlic press?

That should win some kind of prize for best worst present.
