Why is he messaging his ex when he is with me?

Been dating for 4 months.
He had been kind of seeing this woman for 7 months but from what he said they had a bit of a fiery exchange and he blocked her on WhatsApp.
She then removed him from all social media.
Fast forward 6 months and we started talking and been dating for 4 months.
He was at mine on Saturday and listening to his fav band and was on his laptop.
He fell asleep on the laptop and as I was putting it away I noticed he was on fb.
He had messaged his ex saying "at least you found a good band through me"
And looking through messenger he had spoke to her a few times over the past week.
It must have been on his phone as there is were pics.
Random stuff of his takeaway and telling her his ex was letting him take his son on holiday this year.
Then further up he had said "I bet you regret removing me off your social media now"

Does this mean anything ?
Would you be annoyed ?

Reading that other topic, I wonder if that one was posted by the ex that this OP's partner is messaging.

Sounds like too much baggage for me.

But some men like to keep their options open or have their ego stroked if they aren't exclusive. What's your situation after 4 months? If you're exclusive then ditch him right away. If you're not and you want to be you need to have a chat asap to nip all this in the bud. But, really, if a guy really likes you and was sure you were the one he wouldn't be casting his net out into other waters. So think about whether you are both on the same page.

I'd walk away over this. My ex was still randomly chatting to people he had been on a handful of dates with from 2 years before, always looking for an ego boost and keeping doors open

It would be a dealbreaker for me, he still fancies her or he wouldn't be in touch with her still, especially after their short fiery relationship, he's probably not totally over her.

He sounds like a child with that whole 'bet you regret blocking me now' bs.
Like why wpuld you want to keep dating someone who sounds like a plan on a playground going 'I get a holiday and you don't so ne ne ne ne ne'.
