Throat noises

Hi all,

I feel a little guilty posting about this but I feel it would be helpful for me to get other opinions and advice.

Been in relationship for 5 years and married for 1.

My wife constantly clears her throat, the normal mmm hmm sound but also a deep groggy noise or clicking noise. These noises are daily, sometimes every couple of minutes and sometimes not so frequent.

This has always been the case since we met but gradually over time it has gotten worse to the point where today I counted and in 10 minutes she cleared her through 17 times.

Apparently I’m the only person who has a problem with it, her work and friends don’t seem to mind according to her.

im really starting to resent it, I have talked to her about it numerous times, suggested she should see a doctor.

Her response is, it is genetic as her father does it. She says she’ll see a doctor but then it never happens.

has anyone else had experience with this and any tips on how to be more patient or how to deal with it?

Thanks

Take up her off er of separate rooms and have a long hard think.

How you stayed with someone with such a deeply annoying, unpleasant trait and then went ahead with marriage is really beyond me.
This isn't a small issue.

It sounds relentless and wearing.

She has zero consideration for you so I would think long and hard before having children with her.

Not only has she a deeply unpleasant habit, tic, issue, she doesn't give a damn that it may be awful to listen.

I would be tempted to record her and have her listen to it.

As for her colleagues not being bothered about it?

I highly highly doubt that.

Ther is someone in my office who does this and tbh once I’ve tuned into it, it is excruciating. Nobody mentions it but I surely can’t be the only one it gets to; I think I am a bit misophonic though so perhaps it’s just me.

I do sometimes wonder about what it’s like in the home so you have my sympathy!

I work with someone who does this constantly too. It's so annoying! She also does it to get people to talk to her, I try to ignore it as you never know if she's wanting to talk, or its the habit!

My mother clears her throat constantly as I said earlier but I can actually hear that she has pooled phlegm as she has a constant wet cough. Every time she goes to speak she has to clear this and her way of choosing to do so is a forced loud cough so you get a loud barking phlegmy cough right in your ear/face. She smoked for years and I suspect has some kind of lung issue but she won’t go see anyone about it. I detest it!

Ex did this and it was one of the reasons I ended the relationship. I am definitely misophonic but it gave me a tic recoiling from it. That and constant nose blowing.
