mothers who don't interfere, do appreciate their grandchildren, and do get on and have a life outside the family.

Any one else ready to praise their mother?

95% of the time my mum is GREAT.5% of the time irritating....but 'tis a small price to pay; and frankly I am probably irritating more often than that!

We are going to the parents for Christmas...4 days of being waited on hand and foot and parents wisking off dd for lots of cuddles and book reading. Yippee!!

My mum is the best. Fab MIL too!

They're so careful not to interfere that you have to beat them over the head with a rolled up newspaper to get them to express any kind of parenting opinion. They're fascinated at the different things we do, but don't seem to regard this as a criticism of their own methods (which it isn't).

If I can do half as well when my turn comes, I'll be delighted.

My mum is a good grandmother and never tells me what to do: she says "Of course we were advised to ..... but everything will have changed now" so she gets it out of her system without pushing stupid advice on me (soap up a baby's bum, for example).
SHe's still unbearable in lots of ways though........... [weary at the thought]

My mum is fantastic, she involves DD's in everything she does whereas I sometimes think it's easier to just get on with it myself. She is a very wise woman but doesn't shove her thoughts in my face - If I ask for her opinion she gives it to me, otherwise she keeps schtum.
I love her
And my MIL isn't at all bad either

I'd like to vote for my mum (and dad) please!

They have numerous faults, but never interfere with the way I choose to rear my children, simply adoring them when we see them. They live 250 miles away so we don't see them as often as I would like.

But mostly she is a fabulous mum because she is having to do it all over again. My sister (who lived around the corner from them) died suddenly in April and her son's father is a stupid waste of space and won't look after him . So they have taken him in and are bringing him up. He's 5 1/2. They are nearly 60.

They are doing an amazing job. My sister would be so proud of them.

As a mum and grandma it's wonderfull to hear so many of you lovin mum,,,,, and mil, I try very very very hard not to say anything when I don't agree with things that are done or not done for my gc........ it's just no matter how old my dd gets, I still see her as my little dd who could not possibly be old enough to look after babies by her self............crazy I know, she is a wonderful mum.. and very good at just rolling her eyes at me!!!!!!!

My mum is absolutely fantastic. We have an excellent relationship. She is there whenever I need her but doesn't interfere. She is a big kid herself and still goes on the swings with the girls They LOVE going to stay with her. So not only is she SuperMum, she is now SuperGran too!

My mum has saved me from going out of business this year - Helped with all the Christmas activities - had DD one night a week and is generally fab

My mum's one of my best friends ... she's so wise, diplomatic and only gives opinions when I ask, and fully expects them to be disregarded anyway . She's also one of the cleverest people I know. She hasn't had an easy life but she's not bitter and now she's getting to enjoy being a granny too.

I love a night in with mum and a bottle of red - she's brill.

MIL is also lovely - very different to me but a really warm and generous person.

I'm very lucky.

I love my mum too

I was a completely horrible teenager and couldn't wait to leave home. Over time we have built a great relationship and I feel sad that we are 3 hrs drive away. My mum was one of my birth partners and has been supportive in all sorts of practical as well as emotional ways in the last 17 months since DS was born.

My parenting style is fairly similar to hers, but that's probably as she did a pretty good job with me and my brothers

I love my mum to bits too - she is wise, funny, eternally optimistic, irreverent, generous(with her time and money)doles out advice relentlessly knowing full well that it will be ignored and (nearly always) resist the temptation to say "I told you so"

My mum is great, she bottle fed all of us but was so supportive when I BF DD1 and helped out by bringing me food and drinks whenever she visits.
She also watched DD1 at very short notice when I had to take DD2 into hospital recently and was so full of praise when I got back, she kept saying I have raised her beautifully and she is a credit to DH and I.
I also overheard her and MIL discussing DD1 and how we are raising her and they were both being so proud and impressed it made me cry!

MIL is also great, she watched DD1 when I had DD2 and she is happy to follow our routine and rules even though they don't agree with some of them.

I am so lucky

my mum is wonderful too. (although she did lean towards DH's "side" when things got sticky between DH and I.....although in retrospect she was absolutely correct LOL).

She's incredibly generous with her time, and would love to more than she already does, but her Parkinsons stops her.

Sadly I never met DH's mum, she died a few months before we met although I wish I had as it really does sound as if she was a lovely person....ironically if she hadn't passed away DH and I would probably never have met!!

My mum is the best mum in the world.
She is patient, kind, generous, stylish and clever.
She was brilliant when me and my sisters were young, was amazing (mostly) when we were teenagers and now we are grown ups we all have fantastic relationships with her.
She loves my dds to bits and is brilliant with them, and tells me that I am a better mum than she is. I wish!
