First world problem- have you ever seen khaki/ brown green kitchen cabinets

Sorry this is such a whingey kind of thing to be asking. Unfortunately the guy painting our kitchen cabinets uses a paint range ( Benjamin Moore) that comes in about 50 billion different colours.

We were settled on a plainish green. The colour needs to go with an oven/ range that we can't afford to replace in bottle green and sink in dark green. Since agreeing this green shade with hubby, I've now tried a tester of a khaki kind of brown/green which is growing on me but I can't see any examples online of this colour- Texas Sage. Have you seen this colour in a kitchen? Do you like it? I don't like the idea of muddy green but I do like it on the panel I've tested it. Any views gratefully accepted.

Not since 1970

(We had them)

First world problem😉

I wouldn't have that colour on cabinets of the oven is green, it could look very odd imo.

I love the colour though and would have it on my walls with white cabinets.

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor

Sorry, I'm almost awake now! Going to try to post a pic. I can't describe the colour properly. Sort of taupe/ green/ beige ish

I prefer the sage underneath to the army green over the top. I think it will look very drab and you will regret the brown-ness of it, personally

Babyiskickingmyribs · 10/11/2021 08:28

Third world problems = recurrent civil war leading to crops not being planted or harvested leading to widespread famine and reliance on international aid.
First world problem = can’t decide what colour to paint the kitchen cabinets.

Think of it as Sage Green and not Khaki. I like it.

Delphigirl · 10/11/2021 08:29

Although I also think not spending a few hundred to replace the sink and oven so that you can paint the kitchen a colour you actually like is a false economy.

Liz1tummypain · 10/11/2021 08:31

Delphigirl , thanks, yes, that's what I'm wondering really.

Also I should have said, its a largeish kitchen in a very old house. We're thinking of off-white wall cabinets above and some sort of green for the cabinets below the counter. (If anyone was thinking the whole room would end up very dark)

Have you tried Googling 'green kitchens' and looking at the images that come up there? That might help you more.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/11/2021 08:31

I refer the sage underneath it too.

PlausibleSuit · 10/11/2021 08:34

What kind of natural light does the kitchen get? If it’s south- or west-facing and gets a lot of warm sunshine you might get away with it.

It’s your kitchen but based on your shot it’s not a colour I’d choose. Personally, I’d pick a warm-toned cream to contrast the green appliances and reflect light. (Something that has no yellow in it, otherwise the kitchen will look like a giant quiche.)

Babdoc · 10/11/2021 08:34

I think it looks a very “dead” colour - flat and rather depressing. I suspect on a dreich winter’s day you would regret having it.

MerryMarigold · 10/11/2021 08:34

I much prefer the khaki but I really don't like sage green or blue greens generally. If the oven is green (looks black) why would you not have a different colour from green? If I could choose my kitchen cabinet color, I think I'd have mustard!

Delphigirl · 10/11/2021 08:35

These are similar. I don’t know they sort of depress me but it’s how they make you feel that matters!

@Delphigirl about replacing oven and sink- yes I do agree. It sounds like a false economy. We'll do something about changing the sink soon but we've seen the original bill for the oven and it was rediculously expensive about a decade ago and I love it! It's the best oven I've ever had so going to keep this one. Also keeping some weird tiling above it with frogs on because the kids love it, (unfortunately)

Ps I think we need a photo of the green sink - I can’t imagine it!!

MerryMarigold · 10/11/2021 08:37

Ooooh frog tile picture please. I like the idea of this kitchen. Sage green is much too boring! Even cream would be better.

Delphigirl · 10/11/2021 08:38

Liz. Liz. No to the frogs. Get a grip. If they love them, save some tiles and put one or two in the utility room. Come on!

CaraherEIL · 10/11/2021 08:38

Try Benjamin Moore Nantucket Grey. I think it will be exactly the colour you are looking for.

Delphigirl · 10/11/2021 08:39

Your kids may love them now but will be embarrassed by them in 5 years time and you meanwhile will have had to live with fucking frogs in your kitchen

Also you’ve posted this in Relationships 😁

I know we all get very attached to paint colours but you might get more specific advice/opinions if you get MNHQ to hoik it over to Property/DIY or Home Decoration.

MerryMarigold · 10/11/2021 08:41

This is a yellowy green with pale pink and light wood. I love this style.
