Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

"ill often blank people one day and be friendly the next."

I've been accused of this. It's because I'm shy and sometimes talking to acquaintances is really hard, but then if you see me when I'm a bit merry or feeling particularly relaxed...

50ShadesOfCatholic · 10/10/2021 01:38

@Bagelsandbrie

Piers Morgan. Came into where I worked at a media company for an interview and I had to show him to a room to have his make up done and he was so rude to me. Really awful, so demanding and moany. This was about 20 years ago now…!
To be fair, you'd have to be pretty thick to imagine Piers had an ounce of decency in him. Odious excuse for a human.

@Quire

OP, I thought someone I knew from the school run and had talked to once in the local park was incredibly rude for blanking me subsequently every time I said hello. After months of thinking she was awful, someone told me she was very visually impaired.
I thought the twist was going to be that she had an identical twin.
whatisthisinhere · 10/10/2021 01:42

I met quite. A few musicians in the 90s. The nicest were the members of Space, Liam Gallagher, the worst,were members of Ocean Colour scene and the Spice Girls.

50ShadesOfCatholic · 10/10/2021 01:50

@Puffalicious

Someone mentioned Kirsty Allsop: my cousin is a TV producer and worked with her for a full series. She is, indeed, petty, full of herself, demanding, superior, rude and pretty crap at her job.
Bag her all you like but Kirsty Allsop is brilliant at her job. There's a reason why she's a constant presence on TV.
Nancydrawn · 10/10/2021 01:59

Cherie Blair has always been lovely when I've talked with her.

clairethewitch70 · 10/10/2021 02:07

Kelly Hoppen?

Mycatisthebest · 10/10/2021 02:11

@youvegottenminuteslynn

I keep remembering people who were in person just AWFUL.

Two words. James. Corden.

Unbelievably rude. Like unreal.

Saw his name come up in these threads before. What did he do?
Yaya26 · 10/10/2021 02:26

Nothing to add as I don't know anyone famous. I hold my breath reading threads about rude famous people.

I think Id cry if Mary Berry was mentioned. My faith in humanity would be shattered! I want Mary to adopt me.

GiantHaystacks2021 · 10/10/2021 02:42

@HeartsAndClubs

Garry Barlow. Absolutely full of himself.
Deidre Barlow - as I prefer to call him. He is indeed a knob.
Gothichouse40 · 10/10/2021 02:56

The actor Bill Murray is lovely as is Joan Collins. I've heard nice things about them both. I have not met anyone famous.

NotMaryWhitehouse · 10/10/2021 04:14

@TReXX

I interviewed Jeremy Irons once.

He was horrible.

He has some pretty dreadful views about the world. It sort of ruins Brideshead a bit for me now.
echt · 10/10/2021 04:26

@Garriet

The worst I’ve met is no surprise to anyone, Russell Crowe. Obnoxious arse with an ego the size of Australia.
I feel bound to point out he is a Kiwi.

But he kept getting knocked back on Australian citizenship.

ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 10/10/2021 04:47

My guess is Philip Pullman

ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe · 10/10/2021 04:48

Sorry - that's for the "don't be funny dear" author!

Poppets14 · 10/10/2021 04:49

I worked in a restaurant in my late teens and Paul O’grady was in there. He was quite rude and not very friendly.
I’ve met Alex Beresford a couple of times he’s very up himself and very unfriendly

Poppets14 · 10/10/2021 04:57

@AngelicaSchuylerAndHerSisters

An award winning actor has a child at my dS’s school. He always has sunglasses and a hat on. He is a left wing activist and outspoken critic of capitalism but his child is at a very traditional private school
Is it Lawrence Fox?
FuckingFabulous · 10/10/2021 05:05

@Poppets14 , Lawrence Fox is right wing.

Oh ha ha sorry

@ClemFandangoCanYouHearMe

My guess is Philip Pullman
I have met him at an event, and he was quite nice.

i don't think the poster said this was a children's writer, so there are many possibilities.

He's also a right knob

50ShadesOfCatholic · 10/10/2021 05:58

That's a bit of a stretch, he's lived in Australia for decades and pretty much embodies the red neckery for which it's known.

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll

I’m trying to think of religiously-inclined Irish 80s singers who did soap ads!

Think back, look deep inside your mind's eye and use Your Vision.

I'm guessing Dana, of All Kinds of Everything (fleeting) fame. Didn't she move to the US, ditch her Irish citizenship and run for mayor or something on a right-wing ticket? She sounds a right piece of work.
ajandjjmum · 10/10/2021 06:03

@DragonflyFairy

I saw Holly Willoughby filming 'Streetmate' years ago. They were outside the place I worked and she came across as really unfriendly and cold, off camera.

I now know a few people who have helped her with outfits for This Morning as she used a brand I worked for. They all say the same.

Holly and her family sat behind us on a flight across to New York once. I didn't realise who she was until I saw 'the Mum' gently waking her child when we landed, and then realised she looked familiar. The DC were remarkably well behaved for 1 am in the morning, and they seemed a lovely family - although she (understandably) did that famous person avoiding eye contact thing!
