  1. cooking - mainly me
  1. cleaning - mainly me, dh tends to do kitchen and I always do bathrooms
  1. ironing - we don't iron
  1. hoovering - both

5 food shopping - main shop both, bits dh

  1. gardening - me, tis my passion!
  1. changing beds/towels, etc - I wash them, dh puts them back on as I'd rather die
  1. washing - me. I love washing, dh hates it

9 putting out rubbish/sorting recycling -dh but we both enjoy going to the recycling centre and throwing the glass when it smashes...

  1. arranging things. eg docs/dentist appts. social stuff, babysitters, etc - mainly me

  2. DIY - dh enjoys it - makes him feel manly and I encourage it.

I friend the other day commented on how 'traditional' our roles were. When we got married we choose two jobs each we hated and the other does it. Andy hates cleaning toilets and washing - I don';t mind and he's always grateful. I hate taking out rubbish, locking up in the dark and putting duvet cases on.

80sMum · 10/11/2007 20:57

Currently:

  1. cooking - dh
  2. cleaning - me
  3. ironing - me
  4. hoovering - me
5 food shopping - dh
  1. gardening - both
  2. changing beds/towels, etc - me
  3. washing - me
9 putting out rubbish/sorting recycling - me 10. arranging things. eg docs/dentist appts. social stuff, babysitters, etc . - me 11. DIY - both

We both work full-time now, which is why dh has taken over shopping and cooking. When I was a SAHM I did all 11 of the above (except dh did the more 'structural' bits of DIY, which he still does).

To be honest DH works overseas so most of the cleaning, foodshopping, washing, changing beds etc is done before he gets home. He also does not really expect me to cook for us as we tend to eat out or get takeaways when he is home.

He really doesn't do a great deal of stuff in the house but he is brilliant at anything DIY and will do things as soon as he is asked.

Oh I meant to add I work part time so not a SAHM.

The other downside to him working away is he thinks of home as a hotel and leaves trails of things behind him clothes on the floor and such as i think he thinks we have room service

This thread has been an eyeopener for me. I do everything on the list except bits we pay others to do (i.e. gardening and DIY). I'm not a SAHM either, but do work a lot less than DH. This has made me feel quite sad as I now I couldn't get him to do anything on the list. It's out of habit I suppose!

All of it - me

Except DIY. If it is decorating, then mostly me, if it is other stuff, then after waiting for months DH, or if his parents come to stay, his dad.

Dh does sometimes wash up the few things that can't go in the dishwasher.

Oh, and he does sort out anything to do with the car, but I think this is because I don't drive, so don't have much to do with it. Actually I do clean the inside of it from time to time, otherwise it would not get done.
