What are your 'trivial' reasons for not dating someone?

I dont mean big, red flags but things that you think other people would overlook. This is prompted by ongoing discussions I have with a friend. We are both single but she wants to be in a relationship and I'm not that bothered. Some of the reasons I've stopped / not started dating guys include they smoked (I know this is non-negotiable for some), said they regularly grew their short goaty into a big, bushy beard, didn't seemed to have done their dishes for about a week, moaned about work a lot, phoned their mum for the most trivial reasons. My friend thinks I should be more laid back and have given all of these guys more of a chance. So I just wondered what seemingly minor things have put others off dating someone.

short
ginger

poundoflard · 26/01/2021 00:48

Pretty boy looks
Hipsters and anyone who clearly spends aaaages on their looks and style.
Denim jackets ( just so grubby looking)

Welsh or scouse accent.

Bad teeth
Tattoos
Lisps
Using 'fuck' every other word
Pigeon toed
Long hair
Long nails

But a rough looking short bald chubby bloke with grubby hands and hard lips and grizzly beard somehow won me over and we've been married 15 years 😂

Used to put a steering lock on his car AND disconnect the battery when he parked up. Every. Single. Time. We. Went. Out.

Folded his underpants before getting into bed with me the first time and every time after. God it was dull.

Would ask me about my day and when I paused, he'd say "and then what" until I said something else, to which he'd reply "and then what" ... and on and on it went.

Said "okey chokey" instead of "OK" All the time.

Would sniff and pause before talking.

Too many to mention really. I'm easily irritated.

@Theowawaynow

Oh and thin hard lips, like kissing a damp pipe
Grin brilliant!

@dilly123

I'm really curious. Why wouldn't you date someone with a degree?

dilly123 · 26/01/2021 10:21

@Osirus
At 46 I'm really not bothered, I'm not actively looking anyway! Very happy with an uncomplicated single life! 😀

@WhiteboardPens
I guess I just don't think I'd be on their wavelength. I'm not highly educated I'm not interested in culture, politics etc.. I'm more of your trash Reality TV, shopping & make up kind of woman.. I think I would bore him & him me!

I know I'm being stereotypical here but in reality you have to kind of be on a similar intellectual level to have any common ground in my opinion.

I once dated a girl who at 30 had never heard of Auschwitz.

Another picked me up for a date in a car with 'go faster' stripes - there wasn't a second date.

holrosea · 26/01/2021 11:21

I once met a guy at his place before heading to a party and on giving me the tour, I saw that his (unmade) bedsheets were sweat-stained, rumpled and didn't appear to have been changed in I-don't-dare-guess how long Confused

Other nopes include:

Appearing uninterested in the conversation
Bad breath
Any take on "my ex is crazy"
Neck tattoos

Omg. This reminds me of something I saw (maybe even on here) of a person who told their hairdresser they went to Auschwitz recently and the hairdresser replied something like ‘oh nice did you go all inclusive?’
cherrypop86 · 26/01/2021 12:00

I was once dating a guy and he was suited up and was flashing the cash, he seemed like he wanted to impress. We went back to his apartment which looked really nice from the outside but inside it was an absolute tip. Think dirty plates and cups and pizza boxes all over the couch, the floor, the worktops. There was nowhere to sit. I thought he obviously doesn't care what I think of him if he would being me back to this.

BritInAus · 26/01/2021 12:14

Omg!!! That's so awful but now I've got that awful thing happening where I can't stop laughing!!!

BritInAus · 26/01/2021 12:15

Oops sorry @TedMullins that ^ was meant to be a reply to you.

yawnsvillex · 26/01/2021 12:20

Smoker
Bad with money
Doesn't brush teeth
Selfish

Purplepinks · 26/01/2021 12:30

cherrypop86 that's what I thought about the guy who didn't seem to have done his dishes for about a week. If a guy doesnt tidy up when they know you are going round, it suggests that they think that living that way is the acceptable norm.

Porn addiction
Can't do PIV sex due to too much death grip wanking (see above)
Unbrushed teeth
Lack of hygiene generally
Living in total squalor
Trying to initiate sexual conversation far too early
Sports addicts/fans
Right wing views
Unintelligent
Inarticulate
No sense of humour
Self absorption to the point of narcissism
Long nails
long hair
Thinking what they've seen in porn is what women really like sexually
Sexually incompetent (I'm not here to instruct you)
Whiny mummy's boys
Being a pig ie farting, burping etc

I'm staying single. I'm too old for this shit.

frenchlavenderfeild · 26/01/2021 14:54

Lots of Tattoos - in my experience it hints at a vacuum within. Ditto for gym obsessives and those who are overly groomed/injected.
Smokers and heavy drinkers are also a no.
Hate being called babe or worse babes.
Big feet and long teeth (receeding gums) are a turn off.
People who hang out at pubs all the time are just sad and depressing.

I actually find glasses a turn on, I'm fine with beards, and being a football fan as well.

This is all a bit Location, Location, Location. We’re all saying what we don’t want but when it comes down to it it’s often what we choose in the end. I married a short man after saying I’d never date one because he was smart and funny and made me laugh like a drain. I’m sure all men would say they’d rather go out with Dua Lipa than Miriam from Accounts, but Miriam has a great smile, an arse that looks like two kittens fighting in a sack, and comes out with some hilarious one liners. Don’t be put off people because they’re not physically ‘perfect’ for you. Do be put of people because they’re mean, or cruel, or negative, or needy.
