Do ‘Poor’ men have affairs and who’d want to have one with them?

OnMyWayToLivingMyBestLife · 29/10/2020 18:14

IME it seems to be ‘rich’ men who cheat on their wives. They have money and spare time for extra ‘fun’ and seem to become more arrogant and entitled the better off they are. By rich, I mean well above average salary, senior jobs, or own businesses which require them to work late, business travel etc.

Do less well off men have affairs? I’ve not known any. Would a woman be attracted to an affair with someone on minimum wage who drives an old car and who was living month to month?

A wealthy, successful man will be attractive to attractive women.

A poor man will be attractive to women who have the same level of appeal. There's lots of women who will want them as long as they're not fussy.

Nomnomcheesecake · 30/10/2020 06:06

You’re assuming that the only thing women find attractive is money . What makes you think a mans financial status has anything at all to do with how attractive a woman finds him for an affair partner ?

Have you read Lady Chatterley's Lover, OP?

Dickheads have affairs. Some of them are rich, some are poor. The only common theme through it all is that they are dickheads.

TurkMama · 30/10/2020 06:39

Tbh if the guy is hot with big dick that he knows how to use, thats good enough for sex. Rich men are good if you are going to marry him but through an affair you would only get sporradic crumbs and sex....i guess hopeful immoral women might enjoy the crumbs or think he will leave his wife... what im trying to say is as a woman if i was looking for fwb the last thing id care about is if he is rich. It would be purely on looks, hygiene, sex and chemistry. If a relationship then yeah his finances are a factor. Just that rich men tend to be arrogant and work long hours so plenty of potential to steer.

Have you ever seen an episode of "Jeremy Kyle"? 😂
lazyfecker · 30/10/2020 07:11

@wheresmymojo

I guess you never watched Jeremy Kyle then...
Sorry you best me to it - I hadn't read the full thread Blush

Are you inferring that many women are only interested in men for their money?
Elle10x0 · 31/10/2020 18:55

Hmmm. Maybe because successful people are much more likely to be narcissists? Narcissists are statistically likely to cheat. Narcissism is very high among CEO’s / Politicians / Lawyers.

OrtamLeevz · 31/10/2020 18:56

@OnMyWayToLivingMyBestLife

Not all Sponge. It’s more from the angle of power and wealth being more of an aphrodisiac than poverty I suppose. More money for personal grooming, expensive clothes/jewellery/aftershave, nice car, etc. It’s a package.
Oh - yes I see you are inferring that many women are gold-diggers.

Charming.

Yes. It happens all the time. Didn’t Heidi Klum run off with her security guard? Madonna is dating her backing dancer?

Surely logically it makes more sense to marry a man with money & cheat with a hot young guy?

Gwenhwyfar · 31/10/2020 21:45

Yes and also totally made up, but never mind...

StillWeRise · 31/10/2020 22:45

you don't say

PurpleTrilby · 01/11/2020 02:27

Wow, sheltered life much?

Anordinarymum · 01/11/2020 02:38

Having an affair is not an 'exclusive to rich men' activity. Having an affair with a rich man might be an attractive proposition to a woman who is not rich or married to a man who is not rich. It might just make the rich man more attractive than he really is :)

1forAll74 · 01/11/2020 03:21

Lots of men and women have affairs with people who have little money and all the rest. I know several men and women who have had affairs, because of being in sad marriages, then met people who have been much kinder and more pleasant to be with, as undemanding people, who they might find some happiness with, be it for a short time,or longer whatever.

BlackberrySky · 01/11/2020 03:25

Sex is rife in all walks of life OP. Most people can find someone to sleep with if they go out looking for it.

MingeofDeath · 01/11/2020 06:00

His name wasn't Colin was it?

EarthSight · 01/11/2020 11:01

@Babdoc

I’m fascinated by your criteria for deeming a man suitable affair material, OP. I imagine many women married to such wealthy arrogant types prefer to have an affair with the (much less wealthy) tennis coach or pool boy...! Grin
Have you seen The Real Housewives of New York?? Many of them treat everyone in a subordinate service role as simply bodies - not just there to do a specific job, but to do other things a body can do to. They are objectified and are seen as flirting targets. As funny as I found the show, this 'they can do anything for us because we're paying them' attitude of the wealthy towards working class people is nauseating.
whataboutbob · 01/11/2020 11:09

I worked in a hospital kitchen one summer, let’s just say it was a hotbed of intrigue. I read somewhere that infidelity is more common in lower income groups and among the upper middle classes. Less so in middle class as they would have too much to lose. Working class life being precarious already so it won’t make much of a difference, upper classes being able to absorb the fallout financially. Not sure if it’s true though. But I think money comes into it. Middle class men used to be able to keep mistresses, now they basically can’t afford it. That certainly was the pattern in my family up to mid 20th century.

Actually, even though he's always cast as a hottie in film adaptations, Mellors in the novel is thin and pale and not very robust (there's a scene where Clifford Chatterley's mechanical wheelchair gets stuck and he orders Mellors to push it up a hill back onto a path, and Constance thinks it's going to kill him). He's a bit of a weed (not to mention obsessed with anal sex and simultaneous orgasms) compared to the hunks hired to play him in films.
