Do all online relationships start by nudes?

robin04031402 · 02/10/2020 14:34

Or am I just speaking to the wrong people?

I'm in my early 20s and every guy I have spoken to online has either mentioned nudes or sent nudes within hours of adding me on social media.

Is there really any hope of meeting a decent guy online or is sending nudes just the norm nowadays?

Only if people have extremely low standards!

Givemeabreak88 · 02/10/2020 16:33

I haven’t sent nudes to anyone, boyfriend or stranger, I just don’t like the idea of it so no not every relationship starts like this, I think men asking for nudes aren’t the type looking for a relationship! More like just sex

I don't even think they are looking for sex - certainly not with another person. They just want wank fodder.

I’m the same-ish age OP—guys who start talking to you and wanting nudes are pretty clear what they’re after, if that’s not what you want then tell them to jog on!

Try hinge? And I think generally try to get out for a date fairly quickly!

Starlight39 · 02/10/2020 16:42

No, not normal at all (although I was mid 30s when doing OLD) but it does help you screen out those who aren't relationship material. I'd just stop replying as soon as it is mentioned and move on. You have to ignore a lot of frogs.

NancyBotwinBloom · 02/10/2020 16:50

Google blue waffle and send that to anyone who sends you dick pics. Or send back a pic of a strap on and say nearly as big as mine. Shock

What use is a dick pic? I just don't understand why men send these.

I think I will go and meet this fella cause I like the look of his cock said no women ever.

When my mates and me were single we used to WhatsApp any dick pics we'd get in our group chat and have a good laugh about them.

Shayisgreat · 02/10/2020 16:51

I think I must have been really lucky as I was never sent a dick pic or asked to send nudes!

I used to ignore a lot of messages though unless they were interesting or asked actual questions (not just "how's u?") If their whole conversation was a series of "hi, you're hot" comments or one word answers I assumed they were thickos and didn't respond further. Maybe that's how to flush out the gobshites/creeps? I only gave my number when the chat was interesting or fun and we had agreed to meet. I didn't connect on sm until I knew them in real life.

ravenmum · 02/10/2020 16:56

Me neither, my profile picture must have looked too scary.

hexmeginny · 02/10/2020 16:59

Love this idea!

Ginorwine30 · 02/10/2020 17:02

I think there’s always a few creeps who ask/send pictures, when I was online dating I found it fairly easy to pick out the ones who’d probably send them. For me, I found the more intelligent and quieter guys were more sincere. The gym lads and ones with very short bios etc were almost always the ones wanting pictures.

Girlyracer · 02/10/2020 17:17

Crikey, the world is on a significant downward spiral. I don't know how lucky I am to have met my DH in the pub.

So how many women are the instigator in asking for a male nude? Very few I would imagine. Why do men think this is an ok "chat up line"? Envy

Navillerax · 02/10/2020 17:25

I've personally had some great experiences with OLD (although I read threads on here and sometimes think i'm in the minority...)

You'll always get people who are not serious, or are just looking for sex (nothing wrong with that, as long as they're being forthright about it and don't send unsolicited pictures, obviously). There will be a few sincerely interested in relationships. You just have to keep at it, and try not to take things to heart.

Ceriane · 02/10/2020 17:37

Erm....no....it’s just how you filter out the sleazy guys just looking for a shag. Just block them!!!

Armychefbethebest · 02/10/2020 17:40

No hun they arent all like that ,I knew of my partner through friends but we actually got together via an online app and he was the only one who didnt try to woo me with pictures of his schlong at several different angles , it was refreshing and here we are 2 years later and we still dont sent them lol x

LasagneQueen · 02/10/2020 17:45

I reckon it's probably 50/50.

I've been chatting to a couple of guys online recently (admittedly I didn't meet either of them through dating sites) and there have been no dick pics even though things did get a little...ahem...interesting...with one of them Grin.

Opentooffers · 02/10/2020 17:48

You are giving your social media over to the he wrong people, find out more about them before doing this , never happens to me - though I am older

newnameforthis123 · 02/10/2020 17:57

This. It's an excellent filter. Dick pick? Block and delete. Next!
bpirockin · 02/10/2020 18:05

@jdoejnr1

I think every women should send nude photos when a bloke asks....just not necessarily of themselves or even of the same sex! Sadly the art of conversation and date i say it seduction has been well and truly lost. As for dick pics I'm tempted to set up a website that allows people to upload the pictures and name and shame the person who sent it. Just need a catchy name!
I'd call it Willy Whackers!
ShopTattsyrup · 02/10/2020 18:12

Nah, three real life dates from using Tinder, none started with nudes or dick pics.

  1. Nice bloke no spark
  2. FWB for 18 months
  3. My now boyfriend

I got 3 total dick pics from Tinder & Bumble over the course of about 18months, all 3 got sent a vomit emoji and blocked. It's a good way to weed out the manky weirdos in my experience!

nevernotstruggling · 02/10/2020 18:20

It's absolutely not normal. Nudes face been consensual in ltr. I have never experienced revenge porn.

I've dated on tinder plenty and rarely been asked.

TiggerDatter · 02/10/2020 18:28

No to either sending or receiving nudes. Ever. EVER.

BeanieB2020 · 02/10/2020 18:28

I'd NEVER send nudes, even to someone I'd been dating a whole. You never know if those can end up in the wrong hands.

BeanieB2020 · 02/10/2020 18:29

*dating a long time. Not sure where "dating a whole" came from!

MushMonster · 02/10/2020 18:32

YuckConfused!
That is horrible. Long time sice I did OLD but surely you are talking to the wrong people!
I hope you find someone decent soon! It is a sad year for dating this one

Givemeabreak88 · 02/10/2020 19:06

It’s true even friends I’ve known who have sent their partners nudes they’ve broken up and the person has threatened to use them, my sister had to go to the police about her ex, one of the reasons why I would never send them to anyone
