How can I start?

Have decided that this year I want to get back on the dating scene but have no clue what to do. I separated from xh(18years together) nearly 2 years ago, I have 3 kids and live rurally in Scotland which makes it hard to meet someone as the location radius for me includes places that actually take 2 hours or more to get to despite "only" being "40miles" away. (iyswim) I've joined Bumble as ive heard its quite good.

However I have no clue how to write a great opening message once I match with someone! Any tips? Do I mention I've got kids? I don't want to scare them off or attract the wrong sort, but equally they are with me the majority of the time so am limited for meeting up with someone.

i haven't used a dating app before, but i looked up dating app greetings and this is what came up, i'll paste it below x

find common interests by looking in their bio before messaging them, then include these interests in your message. eg:

hey mark, i saw that you like baking. me too! whats your favourite thing to make?

a question will make the person more likely to reply.

Thanks Sleep. I got a match (eek) so I just went for a short message with question and am ever hopeful! Been reading the dating threads so fingers crossed!
