Hello lovely people of mumsnet, I was hoping you could offer some advice on a little seasonal romantic gesture I’m planning for my girlfriend. I realise this is mumsnet and possibly not be the normal forum for a request like this so apologise to anyone who thinks I’m out of order for posting here but hopefully there will be a few folks on here who don’t mind sharing some ideas with me. Smile

So briefly my plan is to modify an advent calendar for her so it contains a surprise romantic note behind each window to make her smile for each day of December. After w lot of experimenting I have found a advent calendar at the supermarket which I can cunningly dissemble and reassemble so the notes will be a surprise for her when she opens each window.

Where I would really appreciate some advice is on what sort of things to put on the notes. I realise this is personal and will have to come from me but your ideas will hopefully give me inspiration.

So ladies, if you were in her shoes what notes might make you smile and feel appreciated?

Thanks again for reading and any advice offered. My girlfriend is a very hard working mum and I really want to make her feel deservedly loved and appreciated particularly at this time of year.

Don't want to be a kill joy but I'd want the notes to come from you or they have little value.

Fishingboatbobbingsea · 25/11/2018 17:09

I have just realised I spelt “sought” wrong in the heading of my post... good start! 🙄

I think that's a lovely thought. Why not come up with 24 things you appreciate about her?

MoggEatMoggWorld · 25/11/2018 17:10

All women are different. We can’t tell you what your gf likes, you’re the one who’s going out with her.

Mondaytired · 25/11/2018 17:11

So cute!
Quotes from her fav films? I love sex and the city and a few quotes from there I’d always put on cards to my DH
“Ever thine, ever mine, even ours”. My fav 😍
I wouldn’t do it everyday though, random days so she doesn’t know when to expect or if she will get another one,..

AnyFucker · 25/11/2018 17:12

Make them an IOU.

IOU deep cleaning the bathroom. IOU going getting the weekly shop. IOU hoovering the house. IOU clearing the gutters. IOU a massage. IOU taking the kids off to the pictures so you can chill.

You get the picture

AFistfulofDolores1 · 25/11/2018 17:13

I agree with Scifi - they really need to come from you, or they're rather meaningless.

Fishingboatbobbingsea · 25/11/2018 17:14

Hello scifi101, you have a good point about that and thanks for the speedy post. I think I’m just looking for some general inspiration on themes. I already have some ideas on things like what attracts me to her and ideas for things we can do together etc. Hopefully some general ideas might help me get my brain working and inspire me to do the rest :).

Hi everyone, I’m made up with your feedback. Thanks for the ideas and encouragement. Smile

What AnyFucker says. I'd be impressed with that.

Sunisshining5346 · 25/11/2018 17:23

Aww I think this is so sweet!
@scifi101 maybe he just wants to make sure he gets it right, she obviously means a lot to him..

Maybe do some voucher sort of things, that she can hand into you whenever she likes I.e 'A full day doing absolutely nothing' and you look after the house, children..everything! So she can just relax..
A massage, a day out with you whenever she likes..there are some many things!

Maybe some days vouchers and other days just a reason why she is so amazing..

I think most of us would really appreciate things like this!

Good luck 😊

CrazyOldBagLady · 25/11/2018 17:27

When my OH is in a romantic mood, he lets me know he’s shaved his balls. Maybe this would get her going. Goodness knows it works for me.

I agree with the poster that said random days. I wouldn't do all IOU though. You aren't her slave. A mixture of nice things you like about her, date nights and IOUs would be really sweet.

Rainbowqueeen · 25/11/2018 18:22

I agree with hereigoagain.

I’d try to put in things that show you really listen to her. Eg think of some qualities she has eg kindness sense of humour and do a note about that but referencing an example. Eg I love your sense of humour, the joke you told about .... still makes me smile.

dilly123 · 25/11/2018 18:24

I'd rather have the Decleor advent calendar or Iconic or Boots no.7 or Estée Lauder but then I'm an unromantic materialistic cow!! 😉🤣

MrsGollach · 25/11/2018 18:25

What a yanker. Ooops spelling mistake.

WontonSoupForTheSoul · 25/11/2018 18:27

I’d hate that. I’m not a fan of platitudes.

CrazySheepLady · 25/11/2018 18:29

Maybe some memories of a particularly happy time or places you've loved visiting together.

timeisnotaline · 25/11/2018 18:30

I like hereigoagains. Are there kids? If so a few things about what you appreciate about her parenting , and if she pulls the weight on organising their life a few things on how well she does it. If she’s at home with kids a few things on how much you appreciate it. Etc...

Fishingboatbobbingsea · 25/11/2018 18:43

Thanks again for everyone who has contributed. I love the idea of a few IOUs.

She does have kids and I have already included a few notes about days out together which includes them. The idea about fav films has also set me down a related path which that’s given me some ideas (I was thought I could put a URL to a song list I made for her to listen at work etc)

To the poster who mentioned shaved balls. Bravo! This is something we often joke about and a bit of silly flirty humour will certainly add to the mix.

It’s a pity I can’t add a photo as it’s looking great now. I have tied the notes up as little scrolls with string.

You are a lovely community, thank you for taking the time to read and contribute. As someone said earlier it’s not an exercise of wanting someone to write them for me, as it has to be from me and sincere. But your comments are really helpful in getting my brain working and making sure I get the tone right. A women’s perspective is always appreciated. Merry Christmas everyone

My DH done this one Valentine's day years ago before we were married when we were on our arse broke having moved into a new house and couldn't afford proper gifts.

He wrote 100 things on post-its. 25 were reasons why he loved me. 25 were loving cheesy quotes. 25 were funny memories and 25 were things that he couldn't wait to do.

Cheesy and lovey dovey and total lovesick fest I know 🤢😂 But it's still the best gift he ever got me. I think your partner will love it!

smiler0206 · 25/11/2018 18:45

What about a treasure hunt?? You give her a clue each day that will lead her to a special gift, maybe a tree in the park/woods that you have calves a heart into with your names inside
