I don't, that's why I'm asking. I have received half a dozen missed calls from a colleague in the last few months. Missed, because I've been in the gym or in a noisy environment & couldn't hear my phone. Also I turn the sound off sometimes when I don't want to be disturbed. So when I look at my phone it says 'missed call from A'. I then return the call & they tell me every time that they didn't phone me, their phone 'must have done it by accident'. Hmm Does anyone else's iphone make calls accidentally? I get the feeling that this person is reaching out to me for attention in a bit of a childish way. We work in the same environment but totally separately. I've already had to mark out a clear boundary when I felt this person overstepped the mark a bit with physical contact.

And, he's married.

Well he’s either incompetent with technology or a budding stalker, OP!
I’ve had an iPhone for nearly 3 years and it has never phoned anyone by itself.

SabineUndine · 30/09/2018 12:11

You can occasionally make ‘pocket’ calls but I’ve had about 2 in the four years I’ve owned an iPhone and have never made one. He’s playing a game.

hopingforhappiness · 30/09/2018 12:11

My name is usually at the top of everyone's contact list. I am constantly being "bum" dialled by iPhone owners.

wildewillow · 30/09/2018 12:12

Block his number.

My dad's iPhone occasionally pocket rings me and leaves answer phone messages but not very often.

LuckyDiamond · 30/09/2018 12:12

When I use the voice commands in my car to phone DH, it quite often calls an ex colleague of mine. I met him at a fair and explained as I hang up after half a ring. This has happened 4 times this year.

Their names don’t sound alike at all. I think I’ll change DH’s name on my phone.

Nightinshiningllama · 30/09/2018 12:13

My phone pocket dials quite often. I can also put it down on a hard surface and it will dial someone.. it’s so weird as it’s not even the last person I called just some random from my contacts list. Does seem a bit strange that one person would call the same number all of the time.

Yummadoola · 30/09/2018 12:13

'bum dialled' Grin

If it's an accident wouldn't it leave a voicemail? If he's not noticed it calling you surely it would?

Effendi · 30/09/2018 12:15

Yeah I've bum dialed my boss.

StereophonicallyChallenged · 30/09/2018 12:15

I don't know about an iPhone, but on my phone it's the same person that gets my bum diallers or pocket calls. She's not first on my contacts but is on my favourites list. I think it happens after I've ended a call but the phones not locked straightaway, anyway, same person every time. So it does happen I suppose.

Yummadoola · 30/09/2018 12:15

I just don't get the 'accident' because on my phone I have to go from the home page to the contacts list &t then scroll & choose before clicking ring. Quite a few steps to happen by accident.

Yummadoola · 30/09/2018 12:17

No voicemail left. It just gives me the creeps. I think I'll block.

I have a problem with my iPhone - have done since I had the screen replaced. Every day or two it goes crazy and goes through everything that it's done recently, opening every screen and sometimes making a call. However, it's usually the last call that I made on the phone that gets repeated.

FuckItPassMeTheWine · 30/09/2018 12:36

My iPhone doesn’t do this but it locks straight away after like 3/4 seconds . Can you just block him? Especially as he has made moves before. Eugh.

Livedandlearned2 · 30/09/2018 12:41

Has your phone got a do not disturb function for individual contacts op? Use that if you can.

DiaryofWimpyMum · 30/09/2018 13:26

My mum does it a lot with me but I think it's from when I text her. I've never done it with my iPhone

Aragog · 30/09/2018 13:30

Like any phone, an iPhone can make accidental calls if knocked in certain ways. Less likely if password protected, etc.

However, in the many years of owning an iPhone I am not sure I have ever accidentally called someone from it, but I do keep it in my bag and not a back pocket.

Sounds more like he is deliberately calling you if its happening so much. Especially the case if your name isn't likely to be the top of the alphabetical list, or his post dialled number.

poppy196 · 30/09/2018 13:45

I would suggest to colleague that he gets a case for phone as then phone cannot randomly do bum calls on its own .
Both mil and fil often bum call me but neither has a case , I have iPhone but have never bum called anybody (so proud ⭐️)
To be honest though I imagine he's doing on purpose .

BuntyII · 30/09/2018 13:47

My DS sometimes rings people from my iPhone

cakeforone · 30/09/2018 13:48

If it was accidentally then surely it would go to answerphone and when you listened it'd be a long message of random background noise? Which makes me think it might not be an accident? Strange that someone would do that though. And strange it's always at times when you're busy and don't hear.

worknamechanged · 30/09/2018 13:53

Mine is connected to my car, so I’ve “car dialled” people a couple of times by trying to use voice activation to choose a song, but it’s misheard me

FoldyRoll · 30/09/2018 13:56

If your name is like Aaron Aardvark you would get pocket dialled a lot, but otherwise it only happens once in a blue moon. Tell this guy his phone is constantly ringing yours, and if he can't take the simple step of putting a pin code on to prevent annoying you (and others) you'll need to block his number. See how he reacts.

MyNewBearTotoro · 30/09/2018 14:01

It’s unlikely to happen that frequently unless the iPhone has a glitch. My old iPhone had a broken screen and would sometimes randomly unlock and do all sorts of strange things. It was like a phone possessed and the random calls were the least of my worries; it would log into the App Store and purchased apps and it also would open my Ebay app or go on the amazon website and purchase things. It seemed to repeat recent patterns I’d used such as my pass code or opening particular apps. It was bizarre. So it is definitely plausible that if his phone has a problem (mine couldn’t be fixed and I had to replace the phone) it could be calling you by mistake.

If he’s an inexperienced phone user he might also be accidentally making a call when he opens his contacts to make a text etc - my Dad will sometimes ring and then hang up within a few rings (before I can answer) as he’s accidentally pressed the call button.

Does this person ever call you at a time where you’ve been able to answer or are the calls always missed?

Notacluewhatthisis · 30/09/2018 14:30

My dad is always bum dialling on his I phone. It's usually me he calls, though neither of us can work out why it happens so much or why it's usually me.

twofrontteeth · 30/09/2018 14:52

It doesn't seem plausible really. Either its always you that's being butt-dialled or he is doing this multiple times to multiple people in his contacts list. Either way, he would surely have taken steps to stop that happening by now as it's presumably a bit embarrassing to keep inconveniencing a colleague in this way? If he's taken steps by using the pin code/fingerprint facility it should have stopped.

Hollowtalk reminded me that my old iphone dialled someone a couple of times when the screen was broken, however it wasn't the same person each time and I immediately text them to apologise, and got the phone fixed so it didn't happen again.

Who would keep accidentally dialling someone and not do anything to correct it or apologise?
