.....£48 million for 28 years of marriage ! I wonder what she did for that...She stayed home and bought up 2 children,( now long grown..), gave some dinner parties, presumably shopped and enjoyed herself but as far as I can see she didn't actually participate in her DHs buisness dealings....so why has she got £48million ?

Answers on a postcard....

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 00:10

marvellous....

will ask mnhq if its okay, and may get littlelapin - our chief fundraiser what she thinks.....

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 00:11

you never reply to farking emails either....

nappyaddict · 25/05/2007 00:11

but you don't know that she wouldn't have made £48 million had she worked. and if is alleged fortune is £700 million i think she got diddled.

WK007 · 25/05/2007 00:11

mozhe - what about the fact that many women who have successful husbands actually have a lot of input into their career, advising them what to do, helping keep their colleagues sweet, coming up with ideas, doing vital paperwork etc? The owner of the business I used to work for (only had a 60mill fortune but there you go) had a fantastic wife who did so much to help him that without her he'd have very little of the money he did have but she was officially not working or doing anything!

There's more to most of these situations than meets the eye, its not your job to judge a marriage you know nothing about!

Pan · 25/05/2007 00:14

VVVQV..I DO!!.....it just takes time to compose the opera I send..IYSMIM.....XX Really.

nappyaddict · 25/05/2007 00:17

i don't think whether a woman does or doesn't work has a lot to do with it either tbh. when you are a family you don't have your own money. money is shared on things that need to be paid/saved for. any left over is yours to do whatever you like with.

however i think if there is one person to blame for the divorce - ie in adultery then they should get nothing.

ILoveDolly · 25/05/2007 00:18

thats the point isn't it - she may not have been sitting in the meetings but he probably schmoozed a fair few people at the swanky dinner parties she threw for him and maybe just maybe provided him with the love and support that helped him through those stressful years..isn't that worth something??!! (ooh i've come over all barbara taylor bradford)

does anyone know when the boden summer sale starts?

Blu · 25/05/2007 00:19

So should womwn who earn huge sums not get married, either?
I definitely should not get married because if we have to sell this house in a split, I really can't afford another property on half the equity. So actually its's the settlements of the less wealthy that have the greatest affect.

he will do ok on his £652 million if he spends it wisely.

Mohze, I really hope you aren't an academic...

VeniVidiVickiQV · 25/05/2007 00:19

well indeed...she may have done plenty of thigs that she wasnt on an official payroll for.....

I wonder what she'd have got for 28 years of redundancy?

Pan · 25/05/2007 00:21

I biked to work today and had to inflate the rear tyre AGAIN before I set off. Where DOES all of this air go to??

Aitch · 25/05/2007 00:22

good point kerrymum, what did he do for his money? how does anyone deserve to accumulate 700m?

mozhe · 25/05/2007 00:23

IF she was such a hot shot behind the scenes then why didn't she play a formal role in the buisness....why play the role of the 'little wife' ? Actually tobe fair she's clearly a hot shot now

...but fellow MNetters why the outcry and general hullabaloo ? I thought it would be interesting to discuss...we've had some good discussions on the other supposedly contentious threads, n'est-ce pas ? Wait 'til morning Xenia/Eleusis/B&Wcat will surely have some good input...

Do you have a Pancture, Pun?

nappyaddict · 25/05/2007 00:28

maybe he didn't want her to? some husbands like the idea of their wives sitting him at home doing as they please, having their dinner ready for them when they get home, running their bath, washing and ironing their clothes.

its dullishly inflammatory.

and its bullshit. IMVHO.

perhaps the husband was clever enough to not put his missus on the official payroll, and his missus never thought she'd need anything official...?

perhaps perhaps perhaps.

The court seemed to think it fair, and they know all the details, so, im inclined to think she deserved it.
