.....£48 million for 28 years of marriage ! I wonder what she did for that...She stayed home and bought up 2 children,( now long grown..), gave some dinner parties, presumably shopped and enjoyed herself but as far as I can see she didn't actually participate in her DHs buisness dealings....so why has she got £48million ?

Answers on a postcard....

she didn't get enough in my VHO

mozhe · 25/05/2007 00:31

....not £48 million..perhaps look at what she did before she gave up working...add ££s in for sahmdom,( fairs fair..),and a dollop for her old age...I'm sure it wouldn't come to £48 mill ...Doesn't this just say,' girls don't bother working hard at your career just marry a bloke whose on the up ! If it all works out hunkydory, great ...if not, well....'

You've sussed me Blu...I'm just sojourning in academe,( french academe as well...)..I'm really a humble hospital doc...

Why the F would she work when her h was raking it in

As if any of us would, except maybe to dabble in a little charity work when we wern't having our hair done

cylonbabe · 25/05/2007 00:32

i cannot believe this thread.

a marriage is an eal partnership even when both partners are oing very differnt jobs. one might be out aking usiness deals, whilst theother is at hme takencare of the house and the kids. it dosent devalue either ones contribution. they are both equal contributions and both deserve an eaqual share in any financia success.
or are you saying that taking car of a home and bringing up chidrn isnt a valid career/job/pastime?

Pan · 25/05/2007 00:32

no, it was a punkter.......struggling on that one...

People like discussing this kind of thing, Mozhe. ITs just that this subject has been done too many times on here I think , to the point where its not interesting anymore. It would be like someboday starting a thread about breastfeeding V bottlefeeding, or WOHM v SAHM. All very interesting topics in themselves but...
Please give some real arguments about why you think this woman shouldn`T have got this settlement, and put some flesh on the debate.

cylonbabe · 25/05/2007 00:36

No man is on the up all by himself. no one person is an island. we all benefit from interactinos with the people in our lives.
dh is a very annoying control freak. but he manages to make lots of money because he doesnt have to spend time or energy thinking about a lot of what happens at home. he knows i will handle it and cantherefore focus on his business dealings. does this mean i shouldnt have a share in any finacnial success because i was being a sahm? maybe he should also ditch me after 30 years together and refuse to hand over the dosh whcih he acquired because of our teamwork simply because he doesnt recognize being a sahm as being a valid career?

hunkermunker · 25/05/2007 00:36

Mozhe, how much?

Aitch · 25/05/2007 00:36

i have a friend whose husband is a broker, makes millions etc etc. when he left her after ten years (by which time she would likely not be able to have children) she was very 'in with pain, out with love' about it all and refused to try to get her share of what he'd earned during the period.

she wanted what was 'fair', but that actually turned out to be 'monumentally unfair' because at the time she was utterly utterly heartbroken and just wanted to cut her ties with him.

she would have done Very Well Indeed in her career, but her husband wanted her to play the little wife and also his job moved him between continents often so it would have been impossible for both of them to be together and working on their careers. so she gave hers up for him.

so every time i see this £48 mill woman i think 'well done, you got what you were worth and didn't let him bully you into under-valuing yourself'.

JoolsToo · 25/05/2007 00:37

I always thought it was 50/50 and he's worth wot? £160 mill so she's been sold short.

on another note considering all that wealth neither of them have worn particularly well have they. I expect she'll be having a nip and tuck with all that filthy lucre

Pan · 25/05/2007 00:37

Enough to buy me a new inner tube??

mozhe · 25/05/2007 00:37

..I don't think bringing up children is a career or a job or even a 'pastime',( had to at that last one....) No definitely none of those..

oh yeah great mozhe. in all your reckonings you fail to take into account that very few women are that calculating. what is damaging to feminism is the implication that all women are scheming tarts.

JoolsToo · 25/05/2007 00:39

I'd be a scheming tart for 48 mill

cylonbabe · 25/05/2007 00:39

i wish to god i was a scheming calculating tart.
would make life so much simpler

ILoveDolly · 25/05/2007 00:39

hmm i have had jobs that are less demanding i currently have more 'on-call' hours than my doctor dh

mumemma · 25/05/2007 00:39

If he had £700,000, it sounds fair enough (or not enough!) for her to get £48,000. It's just news because of the huge amounts involved. Like it or not, it's also about the lifestyle she's become accustomed to.

What has he really done to earn £700m? Ok, skill and hard work but a massive amount of luck too. Women I know that have split up are getting a much higher proportion from their exH's.

ILoveDolly · 25/05/2007 00:39

and yes sometimes i wish i was a scheming tart too!!

ah, thats where you become anti-feminist mozhe.....

Cammelia · 25/05/2007 00:40

What is bringing up children then, a project to be outsourced

ILoveDolly · 25/05/2007 00:41

obv according to mozhe you should be able to work as a nanny, be a full time mother and hold down some kind of high flying career

Pan · 25/05/2007 00:41

I'd scheme. And tart. (as a verb). If it got me a new inner tube.

I can dream. Night.

ILoveDolly · 25/05/2007 00:42

you know because looking after kids is such a doddle and hardly worthy of a thought
