How long between meeting your DH/DW and proposing then getting married?

Long time poster but have had to alter my username as left MN for a while and had to re-register.

Just thinking about marriage and wondering how long it was between meeting your spouse (or the start of the relationship if known for years before getting together), then proposing and then the actual marriage? And who proposed?

I'm curious after reading a few relationship/AIBU threads. I'm single so not asking to compare to my own situation.

Would love to hear some romantic stories!

We got married after four years together, I think we booked it about six months in advance. No one proposed.

DH proposed after 7 months - wedding came 13 months later

We met in 2011, pretty much fell in love by summer 2012, but I kept having to move away for work. We officially got together at the end of 2016, he proposed two weeks ago and we get married in four weeks...

Met in 2004, got together in 2006, engaged in 2009, married in 2010, didn’t have kids til 2016 though

DP proposed after 9 months, still waiting for his divorce to finalize, but aiming 2020.

got together in 1997, decided to marry in 2004 (no proposal), and got married roughly 11 months later on our 8 year anniversary in 2005. We had a DC in 2007.

21 years together this year (which has absolutely flown by)

Got engaged after 6 months and married after 5 years. We were 18 when we met. Married 33 years next month l can't possibly be that old can l ?????

Recently celebrated Silver wedding anniversary

We've been together over 9 years and have DdD (4.5). No proposal, no wedding. I'd like to get married next year as we'll be together 10yrs but I think it's a pipe dream.

7 years almost to the day between getting together (in early 20s) and getting married. Similar to lots of my contemporaries- marriage wasn’t really on the cards for any of us until we headed towards 30, and our decision to marry was driven by a decision to start trying to conceive. We cohabited from about 10 months into the relationship though. Now heading towards our 10th anniversary!

Meet 15 years ago. FWB for a couple of years, then friends for years, then FWB again, then a couple for 5 years (living together for 4). Joke drunken proposal 2 years ago. Been married for a year. Not the usual route but very happy!

Maybe 18 months from getting together to deciding to get married. No proposals, it's the 21st century. From deciding to getting married was a few months.

We met in 2009, got together in 2011, moved in together after about a month of being a couple. Been together 7 years this year and our first baby is due in Autumn. No proposal or wedding (yet!)

10 years together before the proposal then married 11 months later.

DH proposed to me but in reality we'd had a conversation about marriage long before that, we just hadn't done anything official about it until DH put his foot down and said "I'm fed up of having a girlfriend, will you be my wife instead?" Not entirely romantic but perfectly us.

Met online, got engaged 2 months after first date then married 8 months after that, DD followed 2.5 months later. DS2 followed just under 11 months after that - the first couple of years were a bit of a whirlwind! Was our 8th wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago.

Dh proposed after 2 months of dating, I accepted after 12 months, and we were engaged for approximately 6 more months before the wedding.

Proposal 6 months after we met, married 6 months after that.

Married 12 years.

Unless you meet very young or one party is divorced, I think it isn’t a good idea to wait too long to get engaged. When you know, you know.

Dp proposed after 15 months and will be married just under 2 years later than that so 3 years in total

We have had a baby and renovated a house top to bottom in that time though

Engaged after about 9 months, married a year later. Kids 2 years and 6 years after that.

We were together 4 years before we moved in together.
4 years after that we bought a house.
When we were packing up the flag to move to the house, he shouted through from the bedroom "I suppose we ought to think about getting married now what with this house and that"
We were married six weeks later.
So I suppose, 8 years before the "proposal" and then 6 weeks before the wedding.

We were friends for ages before we got together. Once we got together we knew from the start we'd get married. We got engaged after a year & married just over a year after that. We've been together for over 30 years now & he's still my best friend.

We had been together about 6 years. Nobody proposed, we just had a child and had bought our first house so it seemed like a sensible thing to do. We got married 2 weeks after deciding.

DH proposed after 13 weeks, planned wedding for the following year (date was a year to the date since meeting) but found out DS was due that week so rearranged. Finally got married the following year after 2 years and 2 months together. Still happy after 19 years!

Got together at 15, he proposed at 19, married at 20 then dc at 22, 24 & 32.
