How long between meeting your DH/DW and proposing then getting married?

Long time poster but have had to alter my username as left MN for a while and had to re-register.

Just thinking about marriage and wondering how long it was between meeting your spouse (or the start of the relationship if known for years before getting together), then proposing and then the actual marriage? And who proposed?

I'm curious after reading a few relationship/AIBU threads. I'm single so not asking to compare to my own situation.

Would love to hear some romantic stories!

Met in springtime, officially got together in autumn time, moved in together after 2 years, had dc1 the following year, dc2 arrived 3 years later. After about 11 years together decided it would probably be sensible to get married, then did nothing about for around another year when we realised it still hadn't been arranged so booked the next available registry office slot (which was a 4 month wait just for a basic ceremony!)

DH proposed after 2 months, married 3 years later. Together 49 years altogether. He died in February.

Got together in 2009, engaged 5 years later. Celebrated our 9th anniversary yesterday but still no wedding plans! We have moved home twice and had a baby in that time though

I just got engaged after 8 months together. Not getting married until at least 2020 though (will be 2nd marriage for both of us).

met 1986, got together 1990, not long til he proposed.

We married 69 days after meeting. We've been together 21 years now.

We had been together 5 years when he proposed, we weren't in a rush to get married though and wanted to save up for it. So 3 years later we got married

He proposed after 3 1/2 weeks, we married 8 weeks later.

Almost a year to the day after our wedding our first child was born, 14 months later dc2 arrived

So celebrating 20 yrs all told next year. Where on Earth the time has gone I do not know!

Got married 10 months after we met. No proposal as such - we both decided although he did get down on one knee with a ring (but I knew he was going to!) married 6 years.

Got engaged 10 years after meeting- a long time in a lot of people's eyes, but we always said we didn't want to get married until we were in a position to pay for it ourselves. And we bought a house before he proposed, that seemed to make more sense. Got a lot of shit from others nagging DP to get engaged or asking me 'why can't you pin him down' (which drove me insane, he's a wonderful person and definitely not afraid of commitment!). Then after getting engaged, I got broody, fell pregnant, then a couple of years later we emigrated. Now we've finally set a date for next year to get married, 15 yrs after becoming an item, and I'm so pleased we took our time as now our little boy can be part of the big day too.

Met in January. Proposed in September. Married in December.

Four kids later, I still adore him!

4 years from meeting to marriage. Dh told me after about a year that he wanted to marry me and would propose as soon as he had the perfect ring and it was the perfect time. Proposed 2 years later and then married exactly a year to the day after that.

Sil met and married within 9 months.

My ex proposed to me after 2 years. Never made it to the wedding, thank goodness!
