£104.99 child maintenance, £199.99 on sunglasses

In a month. Only earns £300 a week according to HMRC. What can we do about Contractors? I know he earns £175k a year, but he is paid via the Bahamas. I’m lucky that I have a good job and don’t rely on this money, but there must be many people who do and something needs to be done

Indeed it does. Perhaps the Family court judges who know that these people are earning high 6 figures would actually like to own their (closed court) decisions basically deciding that these people dont have to pay maintenance at all. #fuckingdisgraceful

my DS's dad has a very good job in the building trade for 25yrs,average wage 1k a week but CMS have his HMRC at £200 a week

of course he is self employed,i cant get over how its never bought up,he lives by himself and his rent is £180 a week,so how does that work

I can just about get that you don’t get enough child maintenance in relation to the EX’s salary but what’s the money and sunglasses thing?

What’s his line of work? A former colleague, a consultant, was recently sacked when his 14 yo son emailed the CEO of the business he works for with evidence that he had lied to CMS. Could you do something similar?

I had the evidence. It was produced in court. But makes no difference to CMS. I don’t want this thread to be about me. We need advice about how this can be changed

My ex is the same we get £200 a month for 3 children while he's our buying new top of the range motorbikes and living the high life

You need to ring them and ask for your case to be transferred to the Financial Investigation Unit as you suspect fraud. Do not take no for an answer. Keep ringing and keep asking. Escalate it to a Team Leader if you can.

The FIU are bloody brilliant but are dealing with so many cases.

It’s a very slow process. I think something should be changed. I don’t need the money. I’m fortunate, I’m sure lots of children are suffering because of this. How can we do something about it?

Sacked on what grounds? I can’t think of an area of employment legislation that would allow for this.

Justhere - I think the key word here is consultant - almost certainly he wasn't an employee of the business but running his own company and contracted to them on an hourly or daily rate, so employment legislation wouldn't apply.

A very common way for lots of people to work these days, I am in engineering and know lots of consultants, including DH. Fortunately even if we did split, our kids are older so I wouldnt be needing maintenance but I do feel for those in this situation. There but for the grace of God etc

Have you threatened to I've evidence of tax evasion to the HMRC. He may be more motivated to full his weight finacially if he thinks he will go to jail otherwise.

race what he is doing is probably not tax evasion but tax avoidance, which is perfectly legal

You can take CMS to tribunal if you disagree with their decision. It doesn't cost anything. I did and much to my surprise the judge found in my favour.

I agree.
Ex is self employed and earns a good wage, but he decided to start claiming benefits when he realised he had to pay CMS, and takes the rest cash in hand.
I’ve no proof so cms say they can’t do anything. This was years and years ago, when cms changed hands I tried putting a new claim in but apparently he had more kids now and still claims benefit so I’ve given up - although I once got a cheque for £1.39 - lucky me Angry

Thinks it's acceptable to pay £40 a week for a son he 'adores' Hmm
