Hurt at best friend's reaction about my look

Hi lovely Mumsnetters,

So this is only a very minor thing but still playing on my mind:

I met my best friend yesterday and when she saw me, she looked me up and down, rolled her eyes and started giggling to herself. It was blatantly obvious. Maybe thinking she had done it in her head.

To be fair I was wearing jeans and trainers that day and didn't look great but there is a lot of stuff going on in my life (my mother unwell etc) and I have stopped making an effort lately.

I confronted her straight away (asking if there was something stuck to my jeans) but she said there was nothing.

I'm hurt by this and keep thinking about it. It's more about the principle, I thought this person had my back and would tell me outright if something was wrong with my outfit.

Any thoughts?

I think she is a cow. End of.

poddige · 22/02/2018 18:48

She'd be my ex friend pretty swiftly.

You don't need people like that in your life OP.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 22/02/2018 18:49

Isn’t that what best friends are for? I don’t think me and my best friend have ever said anything nice to each other Grin

SomeKnobend · 22/02/2018 18:50

What's funny about jeans and trainers? She sounds a bit odd. Find a nicer friend.

AthenasOwl · 22/02/2018 18:51

This person is not your friend. Bin it.

SisterMoonshine · 22/02/2018 18:52

Were you meeting at The Ritz?

Brickswithstones · 22/02/2018 18:54

Also wondering what's wrong with jeans and trainers ?

Fmlgirl · 22/02/2018 19:16

Nothing wrong with jeans and trainers, we met a Cafe but they are always dressed glamouros. Maybe also because I gained quite a lot of weight and she lost a lot of weight recently.

Is your mate Regina george

crackerjacket · 22/02/2018 19:21

Sheès a bitch basically

crackerjacket · 22/02/2018 19:21

She's

kinorsam · 22/02/2018 19:23

She's not a friend - she's a cow.

teaiseverything · 22/02/2018 19:26

Not a friend.

DontDIY · 22/02/2018 19:28

She’s not a nice person. That would have made me 2 inches tall.

I hope your mum will be okay Flowers

Chloe421 · 22/02/2018 19:44

Not the behavior of a friend, especially given what's going on in your life. Is she always so crass? Hope your mum us doing ok.

MrsElvis · 22/02/2018 19:45

She's a nasty bitch and no way did she think she was doing it in her head.

Littlechocola · 22/02/2018 19:50

Is this a normal reaction for your group of friends? Surely while with them you must have come across someone wearing similar? Did you laugh with them?

Are you dumping the friends or will you try to educate them first?

NoFuckingRoomOnMyBroom · 22/02/2018 20:11

Well there is no way in hell I'd consider doing such a thing to my best friend & I'm pretty sure she'd think likewise.
Would probably say you look like shit, what's up? But that's our way & there wouldn't be a trace of malice in it.

Angelf1sh · 22/02/2018 20:16

Sounds like a bitch. Even friends who are routinely “mean” (in the funny way friends can be) wouldn’t laugh without saying why. I’d not bother seeing her again without an apology.

HarryElephante · 22/02/2018 20:17

How do you know what she was laughing at? You are leaping to a massive conclusion as are the people telling you to bin her off.

Ask her straight up. She's your best friend.

Fmlgirl · 22/02/2018 20:20

Hey HarryElephante,

I did ask her straight away as explained above and she said "nothing" and just brushed it off.

Hey LittleChocola,

I am not concerned about what people look like. My friend would often make comments about people in the street etc., it never sat right with me.

Littlechocola · 22/02/2018 20:24

I think you need to be direct. Tell her she is rude for laughing at peoples appearances!
She sounds vile.

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2018 20:29

I thought you were going to say you were wearing a lime green jumper, orange jeans and a wacky wig or something, and you are always a bit "out there" but tbh she sounds like a cow.

Bluntness100 · 22/02/2018 20:35

She was trying to put you down, make you feel bad about yourself. Make herself feel superior. She's not your friend.

I know that Because friends don't do this to each other.
