Proposing to my DP in a few hours - Nervous as hell

My DP's birthday is new years eve. I am proposing to him tonight. I know it is not traditional but DP and I are in no way traditional. I am very nervous though - can anyone help settle my nerves?

Ooooooh!
Exciting Grin
I always tell my daughter, that nerves are the exact same thing as excitement. You're not sick with nerves, you're sick with excitement. If you're shaking, it's excitement. If your pulse races, it's excitement!

Stop for a second. Breathe. Allow yourself to feel what you think are nerves. Then start enjoying the feeling - because it's really excitement.

Wheeeeeeeee!
Squeeeeeeeeeal!

Good luck Flowers

It's lovely that your nervous -embrace it as part of the deal. Go out for long walk or long bath might help but honestly I just think it's not gonna go away until he says yes. Hope you have a lovely evening.
I often wonder what it was like for blokes growing up in an era where they had to walk over to gang of girls and ask one of them to dance - they must have learned how to deal with being bag of nerves. We just lack practice but maybe you could try and enjoy it???
How exciting!

our favourite movie is the notebook because we have had a similar relationship to the movie dated in school and met up years later. I have written it all in a book with pictures etc that also has the story of the notebook in it.

Angelf1sh · 30/12/2017 13:04

Oh exciting!!!

Take some deep breaths, hold them for one second then two then three and so on until you’re holding them for ten seconds before exhaling. It’s completely impossible to be nervous once you’ve controlled your breathing. It’s hyperventilating that increases the sense of panic, controlled breathing relaxes you.

Once your breathing is controlled just be excited! This is going to be so much fun and I bet he loves his book! Good luck op!!

meowimacat · 30/12/2017 13:04

Awww how lovely. Nerves are normal so just remember what you are feeling is completely normal. Try and keep busy, go out for a bit, take a walk, tidy, keep occupied. Good luck and let us know how it goes xxx
