Dating a much shorter guy

I have been emailing a guy on Match.com for a few weeks now, we have a lot in common and he seems sweet. The problem is I am 5ft10 and he is 5ft6. I have never dated anyone shorter than me, I love heals.

Has anyone dated a much shorter guy, what was it like? Would you date a shorter guy?

As I get older I realize its the person over looks which are important, but I'm not sure about this one. For the record I am 33 and he is 28.

I am 5ft 7 DH is 5ft 4. Never been an issue.

My mum is 4" taller. 50 year anniversary coming up. Mil was 6" taller than departed fil at marriage; he was older and seemed to age shorter.

With what I hear about match.com if he's saying 5'6" he's probably nearer 5'2".

On the other hand I'm super tall and never felt comfortable with my height. I felt bad about myself. Dh being tall made me stand taller and feel better about myself. That was probably just me though.,,

My boyfriend is 3 inches shorter than me.
I am tall so if I ruled out shorter guys I would probably not have met many.

Meet up and see what you think. I don´t think you can tell until you are in the situation.

I tried dating a shorter guy some years ago. I felt huge beside him, but he was also really skinny and I am a fatty, so it wasn´t just the height. It wasn´t a good feeling and was probably one of the main reasons why I didn´t continue to date him.

I'm 5'11 and DH is 5'8. Always been tall in my friendship groups etc, always said I simply wouldn't find shorter guys attractive. I've proved myself wrong there or wouldn't have married someone 3 inches shorter! No harm in pursuing it. If you disregard him based on height you may never know...

Thanks for the responses.

I guess if we never meet, we will never know if there is a spark. I just worry about those strange looks in the street and also things like kissing and sex, never been the bigger spoon.

I was the tallest in my last relationship... I was also consistently the inside spoon, so I wouldn't worry about that!

I'm 6' and DH 5'7, never been a problem, we're all the same height lying down! If I'd had kids with a really tall bloke I reckon they would have been giants !

Really not a thing though - I went out with a very gorgeous 5'4" bloke & it was a lot of fun - didn't think about the height thing at all once I'd got to know him. Also see Sophie Dahl and Jamie Cullum for a reference to a lovely happy and couldn't care less tall woman/short man pairing! Good luck..

& yes, I still wear heels (but less now that I'm old and boring, it's my knees, enjoy it whilst you can!!)

Never dated a shorter guy and never would as it wouldn't work for me. I have a friend who is 5' 11 and she insisted that her men needed to be 6 footers upwards. She doesn't wear heels either because of this.

It depends on what attracts you personally. There are quite a few couples I know with shorter men and they are very happy.

Meet him and take it from there.

Admittedly I tend not to wear heels. For our wedding I wore as low as I could get away with (lady in the bridal shop told me in no uncertain terms I wasn't allowed to wear flats as it would ruin my posture and detract from the dress!). I must admit apart from when I was a student and used to wear heels all the time, I prefer flats. More comfy!

But as catsilversilk said, it's not a bug thing at all so wear whatever you like

I'm six feet, dp is 5 feet 7.
When you're six feet, you can't be as selective otherwise you'd never date anyone!
I wear heels with him, he adores my height. And indeed everything about me
I never feel self-conscious.....we hold hands all the time and are very much visibly a couple.

My friend is 5 foot 21 and her DH is 5 foot 3! I have to say-she doesn't wear heels.

I am 5 foot 3 so most men are taller than me anyway, but I did go out with someone who was the same height once. I didn't wear heels. It sounds really silly, but I really didn't like feeling taller than him.

Works the other way around I'm 6 foot 7 and all the lady's I've been with have been sort of UK average 5 foot 6 or less even! but its not really here or there. Sometimes would like to meet a tall girl but that's the way it goes.

Far more important is do you love , whatever that is;), each other, and get on with each other trust each other, no relationship is just so.

Can't think why it matters really.

In my experience of OLD 5'6 = 5'2. Really frustrating, I actually walked away from one date when we met up, not necessarily because he was shot, but because I figured if he was happy to lie about something so blatant, so early on, what else wold he lie about IFSWIM

I'm 5'9" and DH is a good 3-4" shorter than me. He's also skinny and wiry whereas I'm built like a prop forward

It's never bothered either of us in any way, we've never been conscious of having any "looks" and certainly haven't ever had any comments about it, either positive or negative.

I don't often wear heels (just not keen on them, nothing to do with mine or his height) but I'm happy enough to wear them when I fancy and it doesn't bother DH when I tower over him in them.

For me it was. Met an amazing guy, funny, sweet and sexy. But too short (I'm 5"8, he was 5"6). It just did nothing for me. A man needs to be taller than me - sounds shallow but it's the way I'm wired! DH is 6 foot. That said, clearly not everyone thinks that way! If there's chemistry, then height doesn't matter.

Someone being taller than me IS important to me (but DH is 2 inches taller, not heaps but enough) however if I liked someone enough I would have to at least give them a go. Your personalities may not match, the height thing may seem far less obvious in person... but I'd also watch out he doesn't have Tom Cruise syndrome (Katie had to hunch in their wedding photos so that it isn't obvious she's 2 inches taller).

I'm 6'1" and DH is 5'7". We met as teenagers, he was a bit shorter then but I continued to grow and he didn't. It's normal to us, very few people comment on it. It's only when we look in a mirror that we 'remember' there is a big difference, to me he's just my DH.

Depends on the man I suppose.

My first boyfriend was 5ft exactly, I'm 5ft 4in (5'7" in heels) and it was never an issue. He said he liked being boob height

Next one was 5'4" and had a proper chip on his shoulder about it. Wore little heels on his dress shoes and would make me crouch in photos.

Go on the date and see how you get on - if it's other people you're worried about then I never had a negative comment from anyone (and wouldn't have given a tiny rats arse if they did).

I love being the taller one in a relationship. Makes me feel like a sexy Amazonian type (despite being a quite short pear shape )
