Have been with boyfriend for coming up two years. He's recently been staying at mine more often with a view to moving in later this summer. Everything is going well...

He's always had a couple of condoms in his wash bag, they actually went out of date not long after we got together. I went into his wash bag this morning (to borrow some cream for a cut) and noticed the condoms had been replaced. New ones go out of date this month (June 16). I can understand throwing the old ones away. Bit miffed at the replacement.

I'm on the coil. We haven't used condoms since we both had an sti check at the beginning of the relationship.

I will ask him about it. This morning he was still asleep and I was late for work. He's back at mine Wednesday night. I wanted to canvas opinion before i raise it. Before him I was in an EA relationship and made many a bad judgement call so don't trust myself not to fall for bullshit!

What would you think?

ZestyMaximus · 09/06/2016 08:29

Good morning Miri. I hope you're okay this morning. Flowers

Miri2007 · 09/06/2016 08:48

Sorry, was late by the time we got to talk so didnt log back on.

So he didnt mind being asked (after my ex i always expect a negative reaction to raising things). He said stright away that he always carries condoms in case he needs them, he replaced the older ones as he found this current strip when sorting through he bedside draw, the old ones had been there years (this is true) and were getting a bit battered. He said he also put a couple in his first aid kit.

So the obvious question is why might he need them... answer was relaxed... they are sterile, stretchy, useful. Specifically if he is having problems with his feet he can turn them inside out and put over a foot when in the shower to protect it (he worked as a diver for years and long exposure to salt water does mean if his feet now get infected easily...) . I said surely there were more appropriate alternatives. Apparently they arent that great, dont last and a doctor told him this trick. Hmm

Well its the most ramdon use for condoms i've ever heard. But the answer was immediate and relaxed. I'm inclined to believe him. But then i also believed he wasnt on online dating for the first year we were together... if there had been nothing previous i wouldnt doubt him.

That has to be the funniest explanation for keeping spare condoms that I've ever heard. "It's for my foot!" Surely in two years you would have known your boyfriend used condoms for this?

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 09/06/2016 08:58

ohhh for his feet. Of course, I cannot imagine why all the pp on here did not just think of that.

so what's wrong with the old ones for his feet? have you ever seen him with JohnnyFeet?

wideboy26 · 09/06/2016 09:01

He keeps his wash bag chez vous. Does he do a lot of deep sea diving at your place?

Miri2007 · 09/06/2016 09:04

I know. This is literally the last thing i expected to hear! No ive not known him use them for this. We are due to do something this summer that is very likely to aggrivate his feet so i feel its my duty to stick around and then make him wear condoms on his feet for the week... obviously talking lots of photos to share too!

Surely its to ramdom to make up off the cuff tho?

OP posts:
Miri2007 · 09/06/2016 09:05

Wideboy - the bag is a travel wash bag and yes, would be the one with him in that circumstance.

Summerlovinf · 09/06/2016 09:10

Almost so ludicrous it must be true...he's probably only on online dating in case he needs an emergency diving partner too

hellsbellsmelons · 09/06/2016 09:13

Well it sounds ridiculous.
But...... he didn't hesitate.
He didn't get flustered.
He didn't get angry.
He didn't blame you for snooping.
He was relaxed in his explanation.
And what an odd thing to come up with off the top of your head when put on the spot.
I'd probably believe him in this instance.
I'd also do a bit of snooping checking dating websites etc...
Just to make sure he's not back on there after all this!

Summerlovinf · 09/06/2016 09:16

So he's a good liar...

AnthonyPandy · 09/06/2016 09:19

I never knew condoms were that stretchy.

YvaineStormhold · 09/06/2016 09:24

I've heard of outdoorsy types using condoms for various things other than how's yer father.

The online dating thing was shit though.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/06/2016 09:36

Surely its too random to make up off the cuff tho?

You're assuming he did make it up on the spot. Since he's cheated before, isn't it possible he rehearsed this in advance, believing that you could be on the lookout and might one day find them?

That would also explain the relaxed response ...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 09/06/2016 09:37

Sorry - bold fail Blush

flipflapsflop · 09/06/2016 09:41

So why did he get rid of out of date ones if he was just wearing them as socks? Hmm

tiredvommachine · 09/06/2016 09:43

I thought that flip

Miri2007 · 09/06/2016 09:55

Flip - he said the packets had become damaged from being in the bag for so long. When he came across the other pack he just replaced them.

The new ones go out of date this month so he would be foolish to be using them for sex.

OP posts:
flipflapsflop · 09/06/2016 10:17

Yes, he'll be no doubt wearing them as socks in the shower in a totally non foolish way

ISpeakJive · 09/06/2016 10:30

I'm not sure I would believe that story, to be honest.

He could've had that story concocted in his head should you have ever stumbled across them.

Miri2007 · 09/06/2016 10:42

I dont think its a pre prepared lie.

If he was going to go to the trouble to invent a story why not just keep them somewhere i wouldnt look? I go in this bag. He's previously asked me to grab such and such out of the bag for him (this is why i knew the old ones were there).

People tend to be defensive when caught in a lie. Even when i was spectical he didnt get annoyed or anything.

OP posts:
RivieraKid · 09/06/2016 10:45

What jive said. If you haven't caught him with condoms on his feet in the last two years (can't believe I've even just typed that) despite his feet getting 'infected easily' in the time you've known him I'd be suspicious that this was something rehearsed in case you caught him out.

Having said that, if he kept the same old out of date ones in there for the last two years he wasn't using them for anything else either. Pass - this is kind of bizarre.

Miri2007 · 09/06/2016 10:55

I got the impression it was more just in case rather than a regular thing. Apparently they are also good to cover bandages and dressings when "in the field". I havent seen him use a lot of first aid type equipment. It doesnt mean you dont keep it to hand.
