Trolls

I know there was a thread about this just a couple of weeks, but just want to remind us all to think before investing time and emotion - and most importantly personal information and experiences - on threads in Relationships. Especially if it's something triggering for you.

This board is being infiltrated by trolls at the moment.

If the OP is over egged, if the OP is too 'bad' to be true, if it reads like a soap opera with convenient updates every couple of hours to keep people entertained, then it's likely not true!

I (fortunately?) live in foreign and therefore no longer watch TV on the actual TV. It's the main reason I'm on here all the bloody time (that and the desire to avoid everything else I've got to do). Our sofa hasn't functioned as anything other than an extra wardrobe/storage unit in months.

Cos I was one of those that were indeed taken in by the Hazz thread. But could that be because A) I have only been on MN for a few months and didn´t even know wot a troll was? Or B) I am one of the aforementioned ( by you ) people who are touched in the head?

I can share with you the information that I am not currently menstruating, Moomin, since you seem interested.

I will admit that I do have an unfortunate tendency to assume somewhat that people who are such complete newcomers to the internet that they are not aware of the concept of troll (or indeed, just the concept of people potentially making shit up on the internet) are perhaps a little backwards beyond that small area. I realise that is my own oversight. I'll also admit that it didn't occur to me that there would be many (or really, any) complete newbies posting on the thread in question. Another oversight.

I also am a little bit of a moronist, probably.

These "troll" threads always end up with perfectly nice folks falling out with each other. Bloody ironic, really.

That last post was actually an attempt to be halfway civil and wasn't entirely serious.

I know smilla. I am trying to be lighthearted too. These feck'n trolly types ruin it for everyone and make people feel bad. That's why tempers get a bit frayed.

I was grateful of the protection of the older wiser poster when I was fresh and new to the world of mn. I joined in the days when the poster was challenged and dealt with on the thread when grass was green and it was all fields It was a proper education to watch those in the know point out and pick apart the inconsistencies and if necessary turn around and say essentially oh do piss off you fantasist.
And then I came across bereavement trolls and that was one hell of a lesson. Watching the twins thread develop and fall apart, and the miscarriage troll. And I got smart to the sheer emotion sucking vile nature of trolling.

These days I have got so cynical that most the troll threads that get zapped I have either discarded by title alone or I have read the op and gone, nope. I do like the hide feature. But I am sure I would have been caught out badly if I had joined mn in these days, there would have been no way to learn through observation and experiment. If you have never experienced something you have no idea to guard yourself against it.
