Urgent - can I invite myself along?

Hey MNers! So I'm at uni and I'm on Facebook. I just saw a pretty cool looking event but I know most of the other people I know are going to a party - except one international student I know okay, but not really well. She's going to this cool looking event. I'm wondering whether to FB message her to ask if she's going and maybe we could go together, but I saw that she maybe (?) has an old friend over - can't tell if it's an old picture on FB but not sure. Is it okay to still send her a noncommittal message or should I drop it?

Can't honestly see why this would in any way be classed as urgent! But if you don't feel happy going alone and this woman is the only other person you know who's going, I don't see the problem with sending her a message to ask if she fancies some company?

It's urgent because it's tonight (as in 2-3 hours?), and I'm afraid of embarrassing myself...

Because "whether or not to invite yourself" is a sticky topic anyway. I wouldn't hesitate if I didn't suspect she had other friends over but I'm afraid of intruding...?

Why don't you just go to the event on your own? If you bump into your friend there, cool. If you don't, there will be others there you can chat to.

Couldn't you send a message just checking she's going and say you are too, and you'll see her there?

I want to know what the cool event is!

If you think she's a nice enough person I'm sure she won't mind being asked. Don't be embarrassed- the worst that can happen is that she has other plans.

Can you send her a message saying - Hey, just noticed your going to xxxx, I'm heading over there tonight too so might see you there, I'm driving if you want a lift/do you want to share a taxi?
