I can see that "going to Oxford" is going to become a euphemism for a bit of on the side...

She might get the farm and the children as she's a farmer and it's partly her business and she does spend more time with the children and cooking etc than he does.

Has she had sex with him yet? It's too subtle for me to know. I thought they would have because she'd been to his place but this going to Oxford thing suggests that's going to be the first time.So how could anyone contemplate leaving when they haven't even been to bed together?

joelallie · 06/11/2006 17:17

No. They haven't done the deed inspite of all the panting . I think that this is meant to be the first step so that they can spend a bit of time together and think clearly about what they want ..... not sure that going to a hotel and having lots of mad passionate sex is neccessarily going to help them do that but there we are....

But doesn't the farm belong in part to the other Archer children? Don't see how Ruth could get her claws in it entirely.

controlfreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaky2 · 06/11/2006 18:52

slight diversion. found out today that the actress who plays roooooth used to be my friend's trapeze partner!!?? (long stroey re circus aspect). who'd have thunk that? is apparently v nice and not at all annoying

Judy1234 · 06/11/2006 22:11

She might get the house but if she's going to cohabit right away instead it may have to be sold I suppose.

helsy · 06/11/2006 22:14

All I could think of was the Dead Ringers version of Ruth - "Aw Naw" .

fishie · 06/11/2006 22:17

perhaps they will.....cowhabit ..........

controlfreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaky2 · 06/11/2006 22:17

xenia, its not REAL you know. (ooops sorry to break it to you so harshly)

Yes, I do know that (not real), don't worry.
I wonder if it was covered in their agreement. I suspect she will reconcile with her husband (who will find out) anyway so it won't come to that.

snowleopard · 06/11/2006 23:39

Whhaaaat? I used to listen every day, and since DS was born have stopped as there isn't time. So I've missed nearly 18 months of the Archers. Ruth having an affair??? If anyone would care to do me a mini-synopsis of how things reached such a pretty pass I'd be most grateful.

oooooohhhhhhhh noooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh...!

JanH · 06/11/2006 23:54

fishie, go and sit on the naughty step for cowhabit

and harpsi, LOL at "going to Oxford" - it will be the hetero version of "batting for Darrington"

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 07/11/2006 07:43

oh snowleopard...
well David's old flame Sophie came back
they went out a few times (on business)
they got a bit cosy
Ruth got cross
Sophie left
Ruth got cosy with Sam the cowhand (who had been seeing Kirsty, who then got dumped)
now he wants her to leave David

that all took about six months actually

joelallie · 07/11/2006 08:03

Well according to an article in the paper the storyline actually started in 2004! Yes that's right 2004! And I could see where it was heading even then, oh yes ..... >>

harpsichordsgoingBANGandWHOOSH · 07/11/2006 08:15

yes that's about right, that's the great thing about the Archers, things move SLOWLY like in RL.... I remember the Brian storyline, that took years

snowleopard · 07/11/2006 11:05

Thanks harpsi! I do remember Sam eyeing Ruth up a bit several years ago - they do like to do a good build-up. With Siobhan and "Brine" there was such a massive build-up to it all coming out I practically lived for the Archers... aahh, takes me back...

Will put it on today!

northender · 07/11/2006 11:24

Thought the scene with Adam, Jennifer and Brine talking about the "wedding" was Archers at it's best. As for Sam and Ruth, building up for a big Christmas storyline I feel. Can't remember how the farm is divided up but that was a storyline a couple of years ago wasn't it when Elizabeth was kicking up about David having the farm?

Think I need to update my Archers encyclopaedia (cracking Christmas pressie a few years ago!)

Bibliophile · 07/11/2006 11:26

Think this storyline is rubbish! They've all had personality transplants. Even the Radio 4 announcer said, 'well, even if Ruth is going to have an affair, surely she could do better than Sam?'

Bibliophile · 07/11/2006 11:27

Sam sounds about 104 and as if he has white Amish-style whiskers.

wabbitt · 07/11/2006 12:04

I think Sam sounds like a creep - he's way too pushy about Rooth changing her life - Nasty piece of work if you ask me.

earlysbird · 07/11/2006 12:12

Sam is awful - he dumped his previous girlfriend to pursue Kirsty too, definitely a love rat. Can't stand Ruth, always whinging about something, isn't she meant to be leaving?

joelallie · 07/11/2006 14:09

Ha! Usha (sp??) has guessed!

joelallie · 07/11/2006 14:17

And given her a good talking to....

caffeinequeen · 07/11/2006 14:34

Yes Sam is a complete predatory creep. Have ye all seen the other thread in Telly Addicts too? here
