My phone looks at porn

NutellaLawson · 10/12/2014 08:48

I have an android phone which I carry around with me nearly constantly. DP has a basic (not smart) phone.

I saw that I had about 12 tabs open on my phone's browser and one of them was pornhub. I was pretty shocked. I certainly never went there or any other porn sites for that matter!

Other than beloved MN, I had been on a site offering a walkthrough for an escape the room type game but it had no porny advertising on it, as far as I can remember (the feminist in me would have noticed, I'm sure). And I hadn't noticed any pop ups.

So could it be a random pop up so many menfolk of posters here claim it is when she finds porn sites in the browser history?

Maybe it's DP but I really don't think so. He uses my phone only to make calls with my bundled minutes and uses the netbook or laptop for browsing (and knows to use incognito browsing if he wants privacy).

If I were a man with a zero tolerance to porn partner I'd be worried and unable to explain this. Except the browser history shows no other sites visited and no further exploration beyond the splash page.

Weird though. Anyone else had this?

It was your DP

TheHermitCrab · 10/12/2014 08:52

Strange that one, I've never seen pornhub as a popup, ever. Seen the live cam stuff and sometimes x hamster as a popup but never pornhub, so it obviously happens.

If I were a man with a zero tolerance to porn partner I'd be worried and unable to explain this
I guess this is why trust is everything. You've got to be able to prove undoubtedly or trust what he says.

But yes, internet can have a life of it's own!

I have an android phone that not only started generating porn sites, but texting me videos and charging me for them, I had to get in touch with vodafone and explain that I hadn't signed up for it (I don't think they believe me haha!) but did refund all the charges as a "sign of good will"

Obviously If I'd have seen what I saw on my phone, on my partners phone, I'd be sure he was watching it.. but it's obviously not always the case!

TheHermitCrab · 10/12/2014 08:53

(and I know it wasn't DP on my phone, because it's always either in by bag at home completely unused, or on my desk at work barley being used, I'm not a phone person!)

Your DP would have to be very thick to look at porn on your phone. Check your phone for viruses / malware.

TheHermitCrab · 10/12/2014 09:16

Either very thick or very clever, he could easily just accuse her as it's on her phone :)

But that's just me being overly suspicious.

Unless you leave your phone lying about for long periods of time it wouldn't be "practical" for someone else to be looking at it.

Lovingfreedom · 10/12/2014 09:18

No your phone doesn't look at porn.

TheHermitCrab · 10/12/2014 09:23

Like I said Lovingfreedom mine did.

Tobyjugg · 10/12/2014 09:27

I've had something similar with texts saying I was a member of porn sites I'd never heard of (inc. a number of gay ones - hmmm). Pornhub can be a pop-up. Does your phone show how much data was used when "browsing" these sites. A very low amount = pop-up. Anyone who knows about incognito browsing knows enough to not leave a track on a phone.

wallaby73 · 10/12/2014 09:29

Sorry, but pornhub is not a pop up, it was your DP.

TheHermitCrab · 10/12/2014 09:39

Tobyjugg

Agree with Toby here that it could be a popup. Me and the OH were watching football online last night, and XHamster popped up out of no where as an extra tab, we were both watching it and not touching the computer. Never seen pornhub as a popup but doesn't mean it can't happen!

And like I said, it's happened to me and I was even charged for it. I was getting text messages, and every time I opened my browser a porn site would pop up. I watch porn, but not on my phone, so it's not something me or my OH would hide) And my phone is shit, so not much point on mine :)

I really wouldn't listen to people saying it MUST be your DP. That's just thinking the worst and being suspicious over one tab, that hasn't been browsed. If your DP was anti-porn (or is) what would stop him accusing you? and it would be equally as unfair, as you know you didn't use it. But it's clearly there on your phone and your browser..

Joysmum · 10/12/2014 09:45

Quite right Hermit.

There's the usual opinions from those who haven't a clue as to what is and isn't possible and just based on predudices.

Windywenceslas · 10/12/2014 09:48

The most obvious explanation is usually what happened. Can you go into the history and see when it was looked up. Go into your Gmail account and go to web, click on settings at the bottom of the page and click history. This will show everything that has been searched in Google on your phone. I'm guessing you'll find a google search for porn.

CatCushion · 10/12/2014 09:54

Do you have bluetooth or anything like that switched on? Weak wifi password? Could be hacked...

radiobedhead · 10/12/2014 09:58

Have you got kids?

It was either a person or you accidentally clicked on something.

radiobedhead · 10/12/2014 09:59

And if you don't think it's DP why are you posting in relationships rather than tech or something....?

supernaut · 10/12/2014 10:03

lol at judge and jury on this thread.
Waiting for ltb posts because YOUR phone popped some porn up.

solidussnake · 10/12/2014 10:04

check your phone for viruses/malware i can quite honestly say looking at porn sites has never given me or Dp a virus on our gadgets.
Yes, it was your DP. There is no way on god's green earth that someoen would hack a phone to go on pornhub to frame your DP because you don't like it. Surely, a hacked phone would have all your contacts, bank details?
And not necessarily google search either. maybe just the URL typed into the address bar? just go onto your browser settings on the app, click history.
Honestly, if DP had gone onto porn on my phone, I really wouldn't be arsed. I'm not there 3 days out of 7 so I know for a fact he watches it. doesn't bother me.

radiobedhead · 10/12/2014 10:04

Yes I hate the 'LTB' judge and jury bollocks too.

But it has to have been a person looking, doesn't just do it randomly.

MephistophelesApprentice · 10/12/2014 10:04

Are you using chrome on your phone?

Chrome tracks behaviour across platform. If you logged into google chrome on your DPs laptop, then he subsequently looked at porn using chrome on the laptop it's possible that it would retain the tabs he opened when he opened your phone.

I made a sort of reverse mistake, because I was looking at porn on my phone and we use chrome at work. One day I log in and hey presto, xnxx comes up alongside my work tabs. Thankfully my manager also uses chrome.

solidussnake · 10/12/2014 10:05

porn hub is not a pop up. This is why people saying "it is your DP" are onto something - someone had to go onto porn hub.
also porn hub is probably the least hardcore out of the big three.

TheHermitCrab · 10/12/2014 10:08

Yes, it was your DP

This is about as much logic as saying "It's you, just admit it, you're lying*

Honestly, this is your phone, your responsibility. IF your partner snooped on your phone, and saw that, and accused you, and said it was a "deal breaker" how would you feel?

NutellaLawson · 10/12/2014 10:14

Interesting that it happened to other people albeit not pornhub.

I posted in relationships partly because this comes up now and again, where someone's DH is accused and I figured I ought to point out it CAN happen.

I looked at browsing history both on my phone and that linked to my Google account and it looks like Dp has either not looked at porn or been discreet.

We have had discussions on looking at porn and, while I don't like it , it's not a deal breaker for me and he knows that. I've never been concerned at his porn habit. He's never seemed all that into it, really.

Tyzer85 · 10/12/2014 10:14

If your partner uses incognito mode on the laptop then I'm not convinced that it was him... Porn websites do pop up sometimes unfortunately.

TheHermitCrab · 10/12/2014 10:19

NutellaLawson

The only SUSPICIOUS reason I could see for someone using their OHs phone would be to play the game of "nothing to do with me, it's your phone, your porn!" lol... but as you said you haven't had an argument about it and he knows it's not a deal breaker, likelihood is he would use his own phone or the home computer.

Me and my OH use porn but STILL delete history... I guess out of manners I don't know! lol

But despite that my phone still played silly games. Even vodafone had a hint of "suuree it's not your porn" when I rang them.. lol!

The main time we get all sorts of that crap popping up is when we are watching football online (as we don't have sky sports so use streaming sites) and Movies streaming sites, which are dodgy in themselves, so you always end up with strange popups, weird noises, then you're like "what the..." and realise there's some lady stripping on webcam on another tab haha.

I guess the answer is, it happens! :)
