How did you meet you DH/DP?

I met my partner on Tinder and HATE that we met that way! I was separated and looking for someone to flirt with. He and I chatted via e mail, met for coffee a couple of weeks later, then fell head over heels.
He told me earlier that he'll ask me to marry him once I'm divorced. Feeling happy, content and want to hear other peoples romantic stories.

Dontgotosleep · 11/08/2014 00:21

Sorry mine's not very romantic if at all. I was out with friends and he approached me and offered to buy me a drink. I accepted. That night we went back to mine dtd 15 months on we're still together and trying for a baby. We don't live together though but it works.

Joysmum · 11/08/2014 01:05

He was the best friend of my next door neighbour. I was 16, he was 14. We dated but the age gap was huge at that age. We got back together in my early 20's and married 2.5 years later

I have a huge insane story that would almost certainly out me if anybody I knew read it Grin

few points I can say though... I hoisted my judgy pants upon meeting him, about a year and a half passed where we were aware of each other existing and not much else. Through a relative of his who is my good friend I ended up actually having a conversation with him one night while visiting the friend. It led to a week of us acting like giddy teenagers after everybody else went to bed and sitting up laughing hysterically and drinking, often in his car parked outside the house so we didn't wake anybody (we didn't get up to anything sexual by the way!). I went home, no contact at all for 4 months, then he got his own place, contacted me and asked me to move in! Having only spent a few evenings together months before... I sensibly and rationally decided it was a great idea Grin Blush. Moved in a week later from 200 miles away. Been living together for 6 months now and it is amazing. Neither of us have ever behaved like this before so god knows what came over us but it's worked out. He is perfect!

We met at an Amnesty International event 12 years ago. He was wearing a Farscape shirt and I loved that geeky sci-fi show so we chatted. And then kept chatting for about two hours, both ignoring the mates we'd come with. I pursued him rather than the other way round, asking for his email address when his mates were about to drag him off. He's quite shy.

We have our ninth wedding anniversary in October, three cats and two geeky DC.

Chiana · 11/08/2014 07:07

Um, I probably should've said two DC and three cats, in that order. The original wording makes it sound like the cats are more important than the DC!

Layla001 · 11/08/2014 08:31

On match. Two years ago. He's my world. Kind, caring, clever, funny, sexy and just my best friend. I'm cradling our 6 day old daughter in my arms.

heartshapedflux · 11/08/2014 09:30

I met mine on Match too. 3 years ago today! I was cautious about meeting up with him in real life as I'd been messed around so much with OD, but we both shared a hobby (creative writing) so we met up ostensibly to talk about that - in fact he had already sent me 10,000 words of his novel, which I had read and commented all over it with red pen (the only colour I could find!) He found it funny when I gave it back to him because he's a primary school teacher, yet I was the one marking him!

We both knew within about 5 seconds of meeting face to face that we were going to be far more than writing buddies. We had our first kiss that night, two weeks ago he proposed and we're getting married next October!

TheWordFactory · 11/08/2014 09:40

We were first introduced to each other at law school, but didn't get together because of partners and travel plans. We then bumped into each other at a ball, at a half moon party in thailand and walking down a random street in london. We had to admit it was meant to be... Been together twenty years!

JadeJ123 · 11/08/2014 09:41

Met him when I was out drinking one night and he never left Confused

Idontseeanyicegiants · 11/08/2014 09:48

He was a DJ in a nightclub Grin
Spent half the night flirting with him, had a quick snog and don't see him for a couple of weeks although I found out from a mutual friend he wanted to meet up with me.
We bumped into each other at a party, arranged a date and that was that. 15 years and 3 children later here we are Smile

MirandaWest · 11/08/2014 09:51

We met online dating. On ok Cupid. Think there are various odd people there but we're nice and normal so was fine :)

MrsWones · 11/08/2014 12:09

We also met on line, OK Cupid. Met last May, married in December, DS due in 4 weeks. Literally a whirlwind and the best relationship ever. Smile Smile Smile

ProbablyMe · 11/08/2014 12:24

We met at a competition we were camping at through mutual friends. I was still with my DH (unhappy for many years as he was emotionally detached and bullying) but when I met DP I genuinely got the whole "bolt of lightning" thing and nearly keeled over with the shock!! Saw him again at another event a fortnight later and that was the start of our extremely wonderful relationship! SmileSmile

2 years later my divorce is done, we're buying a house together and have decided that we want to add to our joint brood of 6 DC aged from 7-17 by trying to conceive a baby together (I'm 40, he's 38.)

FoxSticks · 11/08/2014 12:41

I met my DH at my sister's wedding. She was marrying his brother, we got together and five years later got married too. Now my sister and I have the samd surname again, shared in laws and our children loom like they could be siblings! It's odd but it works for us Smile

FoxSticks · 11/08/2014 12:43

Must proof read first - hopefully you get the gist!

patienceisvirtuous · 11/08/2014 12:50

In a bar. I was ony way out and as I passed told him he looked like a certain actor. He said 'Ive never heard that before' (was being sarcastic) then asked which bar I was heading to next. He showed up...and the rest us history :)

aubreye · 11/08/2014 12:52

Met DH at Cambridge University. He was a popular, preppy rich kid snob and I was an aspiring neurosurgeon with a close group of friends. I hated him but as he teased me all the time. We were mutual friends. One day he took me by surprise by asking me to go to the cinema with him to watch Batman Returns (haha Blush) and things took off from there. He wasn't a snob but he was still a tease.

tilliebob · 11/08/2014 12:59

We met as teens on Christmas Eve 1984 in the Home and Wear dept remember those of Tesco, as both our dads were doing their emergency mum present shopping.

He hid behind his dad, I hid behind mine, it was all so romantic Wink.....the next Dec we started going out and have been together ever since.

WienerDiva · 11/08/2014 13:00

Met my DH a couples weeks after turning 16 (1week after his 16th). Rather illegitimately though at a night club neither of us should have been at (over 18's only, sorry mum Blush).

Anyway, been together 14 years now and have 1 dc who's nearly 4.

Not quite how I'd planned my life at 16 but it's turned out for the better.

mosaicone · 11/08/2014 13:47

Many times through mutual friends, both always attached but very much an attraction physically as well as connecting as well.
Many non encounters over the years but just liked rach other and enjoyed chatting at social gatherings but never spoke between times or expected to see each other.
I was all but single due to drunk, ea bf at the time and we were both at a friend's dj night. We hit it off better than ever, I left my bf the next day and we haven't looked back. It's been 2 years and I haven't regretted a second.

DramaAlpaca · 11/08/2014 13:54

Not very exciting really. We met through mutual friends and used to socialise together a lot. I was with someone else at the time, in a relationship that had become quite difficult. I gradually realised I liked being with my now DH much better than I liked being with my partner, and 26 years and three DC later, we are still hanging on in there Smile

M00nUnit · 11/08/2014 14:13

Met at school aged 11, but Facebook brought us together!

We were in the same class and I always liked him but he was one of the cool, popular ones and I was very shy and awkward. We had a snog when we were 18 (just after finishing 6th form - I'd stopped being quite so shy by then!) but didn't see each other again after that as we both moved to different parts of the country.

Fast forward 19 years and we got chatting on Facebook and decided he would come down to see me one weekend. Our messages hadn't been particularly flirty or anything - we were just going to meet up as friends. I had a sofa bed he could sleep on and there was some sight-seeing he wanted to do.

But when we met up we hit it off almost straight away and we ended up spending almost the entire weekend in bed Grin. We were talking about marriage within three weeks and ten months later we eloped (we didn't want a big wedding - we wanted the wedding to be just about the two of us, on a tropical beach). We've now been married just over a year and are so in love it's sickening.

IsSpringSprangedYet · 11/08/2014 14:36

DH owns a nursery and dad wanted some trees for our garden so me and two of my sisters stopped by and ordered some. And I had to drop in again to drool to pay for them and arrange delivery so I could drool some more. He also came into the pub I worked in a couple of times. Two sober people amongst a sea of drunks, putting them all to rights, we were. That was 10 years ago. Married 6 years ago and have 4DC.

I love him so much I could eat him. Sorry for the over spill there Smile

Noneedtoworryatall · 11/08/2014 19:36

I sent a text message to the wrong number. Fifteen years later....

Purplehonesty · 11/08/2014 19:50

At work - I got a temp Uni holiday job and he worked there.
He made me laugh so much that I knew he was the one. 12 years and two kids later we are still giggling in bed when we should be asleep!
