He's always distracted and it annoys me SO much

I find it so annoying that dh is always distracted by something or other, never properly listening to me - he's either reading or watching telly or on the computer and I hardly ever feel that he's 100 % listening to what I'm saying. We keep having rows about it, but he never changes. Anybody else's dh/dp the same?

OH YES!! my dp is the same everyone is more interesting then me - unless of course he wants to get his leg-over in which case im the most interesting person he ever knew! (tut)

foundintranslation · 16/09/2006 14:44

yes

He does NOT respond when I tell him someting - then claims he's listening - it wold be nice, though, if some culturally usual semiotic signals (like, er, looking up from his book) could accompany that

Moppi · 16/09/2006 14:46

Yes exactly FIT, and its nice to know if our house was on fire he would save the PC first and then me! i know my place lol

Or group maybe!

Moppi · 16/09/2006 14:55

Why are you sad MTTO? are you guilt ridden by your mn addiction?

moondog · 16/09/2006 14:56

Oh mine demands 100 % attention when he tells me something. Then he has to repeat it four times.
I have to actually stop moving and listen.Drives me nuts.If he goes through his work timetable form now until Christmas again I will,I swear, throttle him with my bare hands.

'I got it the first time!!!!!'

moondog, your post could have been written by my dh, I think

foundintranslation · 16/09/2006 15:01

but it's because I can never be sure he's actually heard me...

Moppi · 16/09/2006 15:02

Awww MTTO you will have to start restraining your temptations to come on here! - its hard though - its far too addictive this place!

I was trying to talk to dh last night when he was watching LA Confidential...he was trying to listen, I could tell, but his eyes kept half swivveling back to the screen. Mind you, my opening line was "on Mumsnet today..." and he does tend to glaze over when I start talking about MN

Likewise, he will insist on telling me about his day at work while I'm Mumsnetting - I have to pretend I'm listening...

Moppi · 16/09/2006 15:19

Dp ALWAYS talks through a tv show im watching, but goes NUTS if i do it to him!

lovemybaba · 16/09/2006 15:23

I'm PMSL at this thread! My DH only hears what I say if I mention the words "food" or "sex" .

Apart from that I reckon I'm speaking martian at all other times.

Oh, but the world better stop spinning when he's talking to me.

And as for being addicted to MN, at the moment it's the only place that reassures me that I'm not a complete nutcase

Pinotmum · 16/09/2006 15:35

I'm so glad to read this thread as I thought it was just my dh. I asked him several times if I was a bore as he never seems to hear me. SOmetimes he fools me by looking at me and nodding but when I ask him to repeat what I said he has forgottne

Moppi · 16/09/2006 15:47

Im addicted to mumsnet because i can have a conversation here - which is more than i get from dp! I could go up in a puff of smoke and dp wouldnt notice until his tea was late!

shhhh · 16/09/2006 15:57

Yes I have one of these dh's..v annoying. Thing is, I stop mid conversation adn it usuallt takes a few minutes till he realises that the "noise" has gone..He then says "carry on, I was listening you know" grrr..What makes it even worse is when I ask him to repeat what I have just said, and he does..! Thing is he "selectivly hears" and picks out words to repeat back to me when I ask as a point that he was listening..BUT it doesn't actually registar what I have just said..it's just a load of words to him..I know I know I know I have tested him and I am right.!! Makes me so angry though..[angry}

shhhh · 16/09/2006 15:58

btw "it's the only place that reassures me that I'm not a complete nutcase " I so agree lovemy baba, not even my dh gives me that reasurrance..!!
