Need witnesses for secret wedding

CookieDee · 08/07/2014 13:51

We are getting married in a few months and we don't want anybody to know about it! Blush (please, no comments about whether or not this is a good idea).

The problem is we need two witnesses to be there in the registry office, to make it official. Is there anyone in a similar position who would like to do a "witness swap" ? We would be witnesses for you, and you would be witnesses for us.

The reason we want to do it this way is so we can be absolutely sure of some reliable witnesses who don't know us - the wedding is stressful enough without this added worry.

Ideas that we've considered and rejected for various valid reasons:

  • Asking the registrar to provide witnesses
  • Picking someone off the street on the day
  • Paying someone, e.g. photographer or make-up artist
  • Friends who are sworn to secrecy
  • Colleagues

Are you having a secret wedding too? Do you want to swap witnesses duties with us?

Just tell us when and where and I'm sure a couple of MNetters will turn up.

Oooh this brings back memories of about 9yrs ago. A mumsnetter got married and had 2 wonderful witnesses (I seem to recall knickers were involved). It was like a mini soap-opera for us saddos across the internet.

Good luck in finding 2 witnesses and have a lovely day.

Tiredemma · 08/07/2014 17:44

I remember that pancake- they posted pics afterwards with the knickers

PetulaGordino · 08/07/2014 17:48

Not quite nine years, but a while back.

Pancakeflipper · 08/07/2014 17:56

Oops, wrong about the years. Was thinking it was after DS1' birth when I was on maternity and spending time here... but was one of other children....

ToAvoidConversation · 08/07/2014 18:01

That was the thread that drew me to Mumsnet! It was linked on another on another forum. I'm nowhere near Reading but good luck OP!

QueenBean · 08/07/2014 18:03
