The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Wading Through Winter Blues Without The Booze!

I'm Mouse, nice to meet YOU. Smile

This is a thread for those who want to give up drink completely, or are maybe thinking about doing controlled drinking, or cutting down slowly, it's all up to you. And of course all addictions, so if you are taking drugs of any kind, prescription or otherwise, you're very welcome here too!

You know your limits, you know what is required, it's all in YOUR hands.

Whatever your goal, you'll find unconditional support here. Always. :)

There will be talk of drinking quite often and those who fall off the Bus will post about it, so if that is going to jeopardise your chances of complete sobriety, then maybe the DRY threads would suit you better, as they are complete abstainers, but EVERYONE IS WELCOME HERE :)

There are two sayings that we rather like here -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

For those of you who'd like some history, here is the very first thread and the reason that we're all here now. FIRST EVER THREAD

And the most recent so you can work your way back through time IS JUST HERE

The Bus may be 'mythical', but the support is real, it is honest and it will help you to achieve what it is that YOU seek, as long as you are honest with us, but mostly, YOURSELF

Hello lovelies,

We've just had a massive thunderstorm here.. I love it! It maybe because it's the last day of term tomorrow, and I am on a downward slide, I hope not!
I always love the sound of rain on my windows, when I am in bed, ( is that another way of blotting things out?!)

Isindecome down here, and have a walk along the beach, you'll always be welcome.

Freezing cold in sussex, we've got the fire on, and I'm going for an early bath, book and bed (again)
Love to all
Txxx

indieyour dp makes me angry.
Sorry, but she sounds bone idle. I know she is a well qualified professional person. Is going back to work an option for her?
I worked hard to train dh to do more round the house..it took a long time and me opting out of things like ironing his stuff, picking up after him etc. He now does a lot. Still cant empty a bin though....

Fairenuff · 28/03/2014 08:17

Morning all.

It's pouring with rain here but, like Thurso, as long as I'm safe and dry, I love it. Makes me feel grateful for a warm, safe house.

I'm still in VenusCamp but recovering from an infection so have been mostly falling asleep in the evenings. Got lots of vitamins to help me shift it. When is it naked handstands day venus, I've got to be better for that! Grin

Ma instead of 5:2 why not try 4:3 to get you started. Starting Monday if you like and having Friday, Saturday, Sunday off.

Booze-wise I found it easier to give up Sundays than Fridays so just aimed for Mon-Thurs to start with. You know what it's like, after a few good AF days the daily drinking habit is easier to break.

Keep posting, whatever you're doing babes, we want to hear all about it.

Why and Im in especially difficult circumstances at the moment, you are always in my thoughts. I hope you are both safe and as well as can be x

Fairenuff · 28/03/2014 08:20

Joey I meant to say, congratulations on your two year journey on the bus so far. Has it really been that long? Shock

Better add the 'I'm an oldie' to your badge collection Smile

(I was going to say Mouldy Oldie, but that would have been rude) Grin

aliasjoey · 28/03/2014 09:16

Thanks faire ! Sorry, I meant to include you amongst the long-timers - you were also one of those who welcomed me to the Bus.

Not sure if it's good or bad to be a 'lifer' on this Bus... but am here to stay anyway.

2 years... of listening to you lot squabble over Opal Fruits, snigger like 6th-formers about Tasty Farmers, make double entendres about triangles and argue over who's driving. You're like my extended family. Grin

Hey, Joey thanks for that, I had completely forgotten about the Tasty Farmer.

Im, lov to you too x Smile

dementedma · 28/03/2014 20:15

Ooh, I remember the tasty farmer too!

babyjane1 · 28/03/2014 21:02

I remember tasty farmer too, does that mean

babyjane1 · 28/03/2014 21:03

..... I'm very old xxxx

dementedma · 28/03/2014 22:28

Yes. It does.
I remember when indies DTS were born, when thursos ds's were still at home, when nemo was just a frail wee fishie, not a big boy going to school and talking. I remember horrid baby doll and the days before Barrie and Spirit and the sidecar, when silver used to drive the bus andkoala smashed her way to sobriety, and purple and green used to be around and MIFLAW offended pretty much everyone.
God, I've been here forever!

babyjane1 · 28/03/2014 23:58

inside I love kate bush too, "running up that hill" is one of my desert island discs, love your taste in music xxx

Pink01 · 29/03/2014 09:15

Hello all babes

Decided to drop in and say hello to everyone. I'm still in bed (lovely) and I've just worked out that this week I hit 150 days AF. Which of course made me think of the bus and want to drop in and say hello and thank you (again) as it all started with the bus and it's only because of the bus that I realised I could do it.....after a good few stumbles along the way.

I do still sometimes drive home from work and imagine pouring some wine when I get in. Then I remember I don't drink anymore! You know those euphoric days when you first go AF and get through the shitty bit and then start to feel on top of the world? Well I guess that feeling has worn off now or become the norm and I'm not so aware of it. I have to consciously remind myself of the downsides of drinking, and what a mess I was.

I hope everyone is doing good wherever they are on their journey,

Thank you all
Pink X

Fairenuff · 29/03/2014 10:48

Fantastic to hear from you Pink and well done on 150 days! Smile

summerbreezer · 29/03/2014 11:38

Hi all, I hope you don't mind me gate crashing. I don't have a problem with alcohol, but I have been lurking on the Bus for ages now and just wanted to say hello.

I think you are such an inspiring group of women and your care and support for each other is truly wonderful. It is one of the nicest corners of mumsnet.

Anneisnotmyname · 29/03/2014 17:06

Wow Pink well done on 150 days :)

lookingforhope · 29/03/2014 17:21

Hi Summerbreeze, what a nice thing to say, thank you Thanks. I do have an alcohol problem, as well as my general problem problems, and the lovely ladies on this bus help tons - but even if I get back on track one day and sort out my life I will still pop back to see this mad lot!!!!

Pink well done on the 150 days Grin You rock!!!

Anne hi there, how are you doing at the moment?

Just did a big post namechecking and everything and lost it, grrrrr, so can't do again as supposed to be doing work from home for perfomance review Angry which is hell, and just d'aaaargh!!!!!!! Especially as the way they have begun reviewing us is punitive and unfair, with forced bell curve distribution meaning even the best performing teams have to put a percentage in the 'must improve' box, so am getting into quite a state about it. Must get off mumsnet and try to press on, but hanging around and will pop back later

Waves to all babes, grabs an opal fruit and hops off...

lookingforhope · 30/03/2014 10:30

Ooh, quiet on here today...

I hope that is because all you lovely babes are enjoying being spoilt for Mother's Day, or if your dc's are grown up or teenagers or not around then spoil yourselves, go to Venuscamp

Big hugs to all of you wonderful ladies today. Chocolates and flowers on the dashboard for us all (no fighting over the Ferrero Rocher please)

Sleepyheadx · 30/03/2014 10:52

Hi , can I join please ?
Im relying more and more on wine and drinking about half to two thirds of a bottle each day most days. It's the first thing I do when I get in from work. The amount might not be huge but I'm defnately relying on alcohol too much. Im going through a bad time with my relationship and leaning more on the wine . I sometimes drink more . I feel I'm missing out on the evenings because I drink and then want to sleep but can't breakthe cycle .
Does anyone have any tips on breaking the habit ? Is there a good online free course ?
Also I ve notched I'm getting really sort of almost pms ish if I can't have a drink for whatever reason , like driving and will try and get out if it . Then when I do have a drink I open my big mouth and start arguing with DH !
Is there any good herbs or teas that are suggested or is it a case if just stop ! looks a great thread x

aliasname · 30/03/2014 11:10

Welcome sleepy and well done for being brave and posting! I think it's hard to break the addiction unless you have something to replace it with. So maybe get some nice treats for yourself, or set up a rewarding activity to take your mind off drinking.

Luxurious bubble bath
New book or magazine
Old favourite book
Delicious meal
Chat with friends
Chocolate
Walk in the park
A new game or puzzle on your tablet
Retail therapy

Basically keep busy doing nice and fun things... I'm crocheting a blanket (well might be a blanket, or it might just be a small coaster - depends how soon I get bored with it)

SoberSocFish · 30/03/2014 11:54

Hello babes
Just saying hi and vaguely keeping up appearances here in the sidecar. All good though. Not reverting to old habits, but not entirely AF either. Just want to get through the next month with minimal damage so I may be scarce around here for a while.
Soc

Imdoingthis · 30/03/2014 13:06

Checking in x in sidecar - stay strong sisters - getting out of here soon x

dementedma · 30/03/2014 13:46

Welcome sleepy. I have the same habit and just can't break it. Sometimes I drink Becks Blue which AF to try and get a few days break but I always get sucked back into the wine witche's arms.
Just got to keep trying, keep trying....

TrinityRhino · 30/03/2014 13:50
