The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Walking In A Winter Sober Land!

Mouseface · 15/12/2013 00:41

Hello Brave Babes, I'm Mouse :)

Welcome to the 'Bus Of Fun' (now you've come of age!) Grin

This is a thread for those who want to give up drink completely, or are maybe thinking about doing controlled drinking, or cutting down slowly, with a view to quitting or not... it's up to you.

You know your limits, you know what is required, it's in your hands. And only you can make it happen.

Whatever your goal, you'll find support here. Always.

There will be talk of drinking and those who fall off the Bus (arse over tit) will post about it, so if that is going to jeopardise your chances of complete sobriety, then maybe the DRY thread would suit you better, as they are complete abstainers. :)

That said, this Bus is happy to have you no matter what, as long as you can cope with chat of drinking, nights out/in, failures, cyclical drinkers, etc......

Everyone has always been welcome here and shall remain to be.

No-one is ever turned away. EVER.

There are no hard and fast rules, other than the support here is unconditional, it may be in the form of tough love at times, but it's always meant with the very best of intentions.

There are two sayings that we like here -

    • The Vulnerable Need Our Support, Not Our Judgement
    • Alcohol Fosters Inertia

The rest kind of happens as the posts appear.

I hope that's okay with you all.

You'll find the last thread HERE, THAT WILL LEAD TO THREADS BEFORE IT, SOME HISTORY

And the original and real, truly heartfelt reason that we are here in the first place is HERE. A VERY SOBERING READ

The Bus may be 'mythical', but the support is real, honest and will help you to achieve what it is that you seek, as long as you are honest with us, but mostly, YOURSELF

See you soon. x

beachestoexplore · 05/01/2014 12:51

Grin I love you lot!

I have just woken up, turned on my phone and read all these brilliant posts. I have been laughing out loud too, what a great start to day 5, thanks babes! I must admit, I am very glad that the first Friday and Saturday are out the way, the rest of the week should be easier.

Drinkers dawn, I love this phrase soc, it describes the daily start every day after drinking. Anxious and troubled, hating myself and vowing to stop.....

Nice to see you Spanna, to see you nice Grin

No boing here but definitely a calmer feeling. If I am honest, in November when I gave up, I wasn't overcome with energy but I did have a more balanced mental state (can't remember the proper pom pom chant!) that, to me, is worth so much.

Anyway, I really must get up, it is nearly 9am here. Good luck to those de-christmasing the house today, I did mine yesterday and now it feels very bland. Keep up the posting, I enjoy reading and hearing from everyone, it is great to know you are all there xx

babyjane1 · 05/01/2014 13:04

Bash that bitch right round the chops Spanna, elbow her right in her pointy nose, kick her in her saggy tits, whatever you can muster but resist her calls, you can do it babe. Smile.

Now about that driving...

Today we are going to drive through all our home towns to lean out the windows and blow raspberrys at anyone who annoyed us last year.

Out with the old, in with the new.

Imdoingthis · 05/01/2014 14:36

I would not do that beaches how rude!!! I slug it over the fence instead at her cat the dirty thing keeps pooing on my grass Grin

That should do the trick hopefully it won't return [hmmm]

Crotchstitch · 05/01/2014 14:40

Back from a l

beachestoexplore · 05/01/2014 14:43

Grin Picturing a tipsy cat trying to balance on the fence and focus on Im's garden!

Like the sound of this trip Faire, I can think of a few people that deserve a raspberry. What diet are you doing? I have started on myfitnesspal app but it has given me an allowance of 1200 calories a day, which is proving exceedingly hard.

Is this a guess the end of the sentence game crotch? Grin

Crotchstitch · 05/01/2014 14:44

Dammit.....
Back from a long dog walk in the rain. DH and DS nobly agreed to stay at home in the dry and de-Christmas the house :o
So now off to the shower and then to the pub once the Waitrose man has been- should be interesting Hmm

Fairenuff · 05/01/2014 15:04

I usually do low cal because I like my carbs too much to give them up. Low cal, high fibre, low gi - the old fashioned way.

Do you want the science behind it?

(If not, just ignore the rest of this post)

Take your body weight in pounds

So if you weigh 10 stone, that's 140lb

Times it by 13

140 x 13 = 1820

The resulting number is the number of calories you can eat in a day to maintain weight.

So if you weigh 10 stone you can eat 1820 calories a day.

Which is a total of 12740 calories a week.

If you eat more, you will gain weight, if you eat less you will lose it.

One pound is equal to 3,500 calories.

If you under-eat by 3,500 calories a week (or 500 a day), you will lose 1lb

If you under-eat by 7,000 less calories a week (or 1000 a day), you will lose 2lb

As you lose weight, you need to re-calculate of course.

That should have been the math behind it, not the science I guess.

aliasjoey · 05/01/2014 15:06

ma were you talking about Derek of the lovely hands, or is there something we should know?

dementedma · 05/01/2014 15:06

well, i survived! You may stand down deputy faire for the time being but keep the badge handy as this no alcohol plus exercise combo is bound to finish me off at some point.
Had a bit of a wibble today so have bought some Becks blue zero alcohol beer to "treat" myself tonight. Not sure if this is a good idea or not but we shall see......

aliasjoey · 05/01/2014 15:17

beaches I've started doing myfitnesspal too! I just got the app for free, and its great, seems to know every kind of food & drink. I can't believe a small satsuma is 18 calories! Shock l've only been given 1200 a day to work with too.

Only problem is I can't get it recognise my exercises. Dog-walking, yes, 200 calories; but it says 0 for abdominal crunches ?

Actually, focussing on that is really helping to take my mind off alcohol! All I can think about is chocolate...

beachestoexplore · 05/01/2014 15:18

Thanks for thatfaire, those numbers are pretty close to what I am working with and it helps to understand how it all works. Have you looked at the app? It is very calorie based and can scan bar codes and chart your daily/weekly trends. I was horrified to find out a chocolate chip cookie was 100 calories Shock 12 of those and my allowance pfft gone! Not that I would normally eat 12 of course Grin

Any exercise done will earn you more calories so I guess, for me at least, that is the answer to give me some leeway.

Well done on surviving the first run Ma

ItsTheOnlyWayToLive · 05/01/2014 15:23

Hi, can I join please ? I bring hot vimto Brew Brew Brew Brew

Day1 for me, stonking hangover today, been comtemplating doing some housework since 11am, but my head is telling me it's not a wise move Sad
See, I would have done it if I hadn't drank as much as I did last night, so what does that tell me?Hmm

I did pretty well for a while, only having 2 bottles of wine over the entire weekend, from Friday evening through to Sunday evening (not during the day, just evenings) but its become 3 bottles over Friday and Saturday. I feel and look dreadful.

I have made sure there is no wine in the fridge now, so won't be tempted later. Going to be really hard in mid-Jan as its my birthday Sad

My memory is dreadful these days, so not sure if its age, or the blatantly obvious..

Kudos to you lovely people that have been doing it a few days now.

beachestoexplore · 05/01/2014 15:27

Hi itstheonly, you are very welcome here. Try not to worry too much about later in the month, today is all you need to think about. Also, housework will usually wait so don't beat yourself up, do the bare minimum and concentrate on feeling better. X

joey 18 calories in a satsuma! I am enjoying it too - have you managed 1200 yet? I seem to closer to 1500 most day, although yesterday burnt 450 shovelling snow Grin. Strange that it doesn't recognize abdominal crunches . It is a good distraction for me too but I empathize with chocolate fantasies Grin

ItsTheOnlyWayToLive · 05/01/2014 15:31

Thanks beaches for the encouraging words Smile

I'll wait until after tea to do a bit of cleaning, just one room is all I think I can manage today. And, yes, I'll take it one day at a time, thanks for your advice Smile

ItsTheOnlyWayToLive · 05/01/2014 15:35

Meant to say, I love your nickname, beaches, its making me think of the summer months Smile

beachestoexplore · 05/01/2014 15:42

We have one poster from down under, sobersoc and she is basking in summer already - I, on the other hand, am in Canada so couldn't be further from summer! Can still dream thoughSmile.

The first few days can be pretty hard but you are in good company here. X

aliasjoey · 05/01/2014 15:46

beaches only been doing it a couple of days so far, and no not achieved 1200 yet (pub lunch yesterday - plus that rogue satsuma)

The abs are on another free app I got - I'm all about the apps, me - and the fitness pal offers has them in the database, it just says they don't use any calories!?

Apart from that, it's a great tool - really easy to use.

MrFMercury · 05/01/2014 15:49

Is someone sat on my boingy feeling? Day 9 and can barely find the energy to get off the sofa never mind eat!
Tbf I think this is linked to long standing medical issues but I'll be laid regally across the back seat if anyone wants to mop my fevered brow :-D :-D
On my tablet so not easy to name check everyone but well done, high fives and hugs here to be used as required

beachestoexplore · 05/01/2014 15:56

Tiring this sober business eh mrf Grin you are doing great at day 9!

Stick to the satsumas joey small banana is 72 Shock you should at least have a badge for the crunches! Actually, I did a quick search - about 5-8 calories a minute, it seems, while the muscle effort is big, calorie burning not so much!
