Virtual Circle of Friends

MillyMollyMandy78 · 28/02/2013 10:18

On my last post about a lack of friends, so many of you reached out with your own stories/ support/ advice. Several of you also said it would be great if we had our own thread where we can just meet up and have a chat and be virtual friends.
I apologise about the boring thread name - I couldn't think of anything cleverer! So this is me reaching out... Who wants to join me & be my virtual friend? X

Can I join please? Just spent another evening hitting 'refresh' on Facebook, to see what people who have a life are getting up to.

xxDebstarxx Myself & my 2 year old would love to come to your class, I am desperately trying to think of something to do this weekend with her.

threebats · 02/03/2013 07:02

Good morning VCF's! Up early to take younger daughter off to march in a Cadet parade - dropping her off then home to clean, yuk.

xxdebstarxx hope today is a better day for you. Had a terrible three weeks here personally, which I am now putting to bed and moving forward, so I wish you a better Saturday than you had a Friday.

How about True Blood? The Walking Dead? Jericho was good, unbelievable that it got canned. Sons of Anarchy is jaw dropping. I love Spielberg's Taken as well. Watch it once every year without fail.

I also like to make the mountain from Close Encounters out of the froth in any cup of Latte I have when I am out, especially if the froth is super thick - I have taken pictures of the really good ones... Now that signals I go for coffee on my own and need a VCF more than anything else I have written here :)

Another oldie here...so morning everyone.

To everyone at work l am a confident fun person but inside l am still a shy teenager who dissects every conversation to see if l could have offended someone. I am really quite shy and terrified of social gatherings where l have to make small talk. Apart from the weather l am stumped.
Up early again this morning with my dog who never came with an alarm reset button. He thinks everyday is a working day so long lies are a thing of the past.
Looks as if it will be another bright day up here in Scotland so will take my boy a run to the beach an.d knacker him for tonight.

Insecure24 · 02/03/2013 08:00

Oooo please can I join in?! I'm 24 with a 2.9dd, hi everyone Smile

targaryen24 · 02/03/2013 08:10

Hello Smile
So much seems to change between 2 & 3...
My DS just grew between 1 & 2 but has now suddenly decided to bother talking as well as running up the walls!

And doha , I often feel the same. Try to live by the 'fake it til you make it' mantra when it comes to confidence but haven't made it yet Grin

Insecure24 · 02/03/2013 08:12

I think there should be a rl gathering purely for shy mumsnetters! Grin

targaryen24 · 02/03/2013 08:16

Yup Grin

Seabright · 02/03/2013 08:39

Morning all,
Sun - yes, at the moment I see it most days! Even sat out and ate my lunch yesterday. Before you get too cross & ban me though, it gets cold in the evening and there's no fire or central heating, just a fan heater. However, the blanket I'm crocheting keeps me warm as I crochet, which is great!

What's everyone up to today? No plans yet gere, other than a trip to the supermarket & maybe a beach walk, if I can persuade DD (she's afraid of waves).

Box sets - I am re-watching (again!) The West Wing and recently finished The Sopranos. Recommend both.

targaryen24 · 02/03/2013 08:57

Hello seabright Smile
Have a (very rare) night off tonight so am going to the cinema with a fellow mum who'll also be off duty. Need it with this horrid weather & DS not sleeping lately.

Would love to be able to do a beach walk! Bit far away from the sea atm Smile

Doha · 02/03/2013 09:03

Well so much fro bright ideas--still sat here..sun has disappeared, the thought of getting off this seat and getting ready is filling me with dread. Perhaps a virtual walk on a sunny beach with dog will have to do...

need to get motivated

Please someone make me move

xxDebstarxx · 02/03/2013 09:57

threebats if you are in the Carmarthenshire area of South West Wales you would be welcome to join in the fun at the class. Just getting ready to go now. Very nervous and hope the people who said they are coming do come!

xxDebstarxx · 02/03/2013 10:00

Sorry I meant Galaxy Addict see how nervous I am! Grin

Keepcalmandpassthewine · 02/03/2013 10:52

Hello everyone can I join? Haven't been on Mn for long but would love to join you .

I'm in the older bracket but have always found it hard to make rl friends.

AgathaF · 02/03/2013 11:08

GalaxyAddict I'm firmly of the opinion that the people who are constantly updating about their busy life on FB are not actually that busy at all [ grin], but that might just be me being a grumpy old woman!

LyonsDemesne · 02/03/2013 11:35

Another oldie here. I have a Ds of 10 and have spent many years moving around. I struggle with making RL friends. So this forum is a life line.
I have a day of soccer at 1:30 and then a Gaa match at 4:30. Where I have to make small talk with strangers arghh!

threebats · 02/03/2013 13:22

xxdebstarxx That is kind of you but if I turned up to a class for pre-schoolers with my 21 year old pregnant daughter (yeah, yikes!!) My 19 year old son, who, is autistic so would spend the whole time ignoring everybody and my 16 year old daughter who is actually in your neck of the woods today banging her cadet drum - not sure I would kind of fit in! Mind, if you need a hand with anything or want to meet up and sit in awkward silence with me as we both suck at making new friends outside of our VCF then you are more than welcome - I am in Swansea.
I am hiding this afternoon from said 21 year old and her partner and son - in my room trying to get some work done while they all watch some rubbish on telly downstairs... I miss the rugby and I wish it was not a weekend off...
x

xxDebstarxx · 02/03/2013 13:51

Fabulous threebats we shall have to meet up for a coffee and hide behind the coffee cups Grin

We will be watching Ospreys v Munster on S4C later this evening. No escape from rugby here!

I have an exciting afternoon of shopping and clothes washing to do now wonder why I'm on mumsnet instead Hmm

PixelAteMyFace · 02/03/2013 14:22

Hi everybody

xxDebstarxx - hope your class went well. Shame Im not in your area, Id love to take DGS to something like that, especially as you sound nice - not one of those bossy types who make me want to run away!

Spent the morning shopping and then defrosting the freezer, am now having a coffee before getting on with a blanket Im crocheting for a friends baby. . Not an exciting weekend, but cosy!

Feelingood · 02/03/2013 15:01

Hello

Help, I want to ask here as you seem like a lovely bunch and sentiment behind thread is, well, nice Smile

I text someone a couple of days ago just' hi how you must catch up' type of text and I havnt heard back. I'm just upset and paranoid as I think she has stopped speaking to me because of some group politics - I have stopped being part of clique and no longer speak to the queen bee (my own choice)

I wish this didn't bother me but it does, you wouldn't want to be friends with people like that anyway would you? It makes me want to stay in and not bother.

Im naturally outgoing and chatty, but can't seem to be able to keep friends certainly not make close ones.

xxDebstarxx · 02/03/2013 20:07

Feelinggood I agree you don't want to be friends with people like that. If she hasn't text you back then she isn't worthy of your friendship.

It is hard and I get why it bothers you because it hurts. I've been there and although it may not get easier as such somehow it doesn't bother me as much nowadays.

Wine Thanks

xxDebstarxx · 02/03/2013 20:08

Hi Pixel I'm not bossy at all far from it...I wish I could be sometimes but can't quite get there!

You'd all be welcome at my classes Grin

WillIEverBeASizeTen · 02/03/2013 20:19

Good evening all...

Can I join in the fun? I have been here a while and used to post a fair bit (utter drivel admittedly), but of late, I just lurk. Saw this thread while lurking and can identify with lots of you (especially doha) "to everyone at work I'm a fun confident person"...I'm an oldie too..51 ..pleased to meet you all Smile

threebats · 03/03/2013 10:57

willieverbeasizeten I won't ever be a size 10 either! Welcome to the VCF... Although, it is MissMollyMandy78's brilliant idea so hats off to her.

I have just finished cleaning my kitchen - about to go glare at the huge pile of ironing... So a fast good morning to all and I will see you on the other side of Mount School/College Uniform...

pinkpaws · 03/03/2013 15:50

Hi count me in i am new to this but so far have really enjoyed chating on here. As you get older its hard to make friends and with two kids one of which has ASD its hard to get out and meet people so virtual friends hello.

pinkpaws · 03/03/2013 15:59

Make up i put it on for the first time in about 6 months thinking i looked ok for an over worked mum with 2 kids and 2 jobs. Only to have my son who does have ASD ask me what was wrong with me you look abit weird quote unquote . thanks for that ds think i will leave well enough alone lol
