Now I seem to have developed a tooth abscess or something equally painful - have got in at the dentist this afternoon. Hope they can do something about it, it's not very nice. No wonder I have been feeling a bit low recently. Period + abscess isn't really fair.

KinNora · 04/02/2013 13:04

Huge sympathy OWW, dental abscesses are hell on wheels. Make sure you get prescribed some decent pain relief, don't be fobbed off.

OhWesternWind · 04/02/2013 13:05

Re the car thing - I think I have disappointed a few blokes by not being at all wowed by what they drive. I have total "car blindness" and honestly can't tell most cars apart. Probably because I'm really not very interested. So it's all lost on me. I like LM's car though because it has heated seats.

mercury7 · 04/02/2013 13:05

thank goodness you got in at the dentist OWW, they should be able to get it sorted, I always panic if I have any kind of painful tooth emergency!

mercury7 · 04/02/2013 13:08

I wonder what effect it has on a bloke if a woman shows up in a 'high status' car? Hmm

I usually show up on shanks pony and my only vehicle now is a push bikeBlush so I wouldnt know

OhWesternWind · 04/02/2013 13:09

I hate the dentist, total wuss. Hope he doesn't poke it, and it's not often I say that.

48howdidthathappen · 04/02/2013 13:12

My daughter boyfriend drives a BMW. A car bloke asked me what model. I said 'silver'.

mercury7 · 04/02/2013 13:15

does anyone like the dentist? :o

watchoutforthatsnail · 04/02/2013 13:19

i was a dental nurse for a while.... wasnt scared previously, now am!!

its was a shite job, the only good side was the uniform, which was a dress and guaranteed me lots of drinks when i went out as most of the town recognised me. i did not milk it at all.

i dont give a fuck about cars either.

VelvetSpoon · 04/02/2013 13:23

Western, hope the dentist isnt too painful and they can sort it out.

I am still feeling decidedly unwell. Ate something very small and bland earlier and have had horrible stomach cramps since :( and even thinking about food makes me feel sick atm. Yuck.

Re the car thing, although I don't have one (can't drive) I am a little bit of a car snob thanks to my dad. One of my friends drives an amazing 6 series BMW, most people assume it's her husbands car Hmm (she's not married!)

lubeybooby · 04/02/2013 13:30

I wouldn't normally take much notice of a car but fuck me, you couldn't miss the jag in question. Sitting in it was like sitting in a small but perfect hotel suite.

I have a feeling if I swanned around in one of those turning up for dates in it, (some) blokes wouldn't be half as flaky all of a sudden... I mean, if they are flaky due to being indecisive and the sweet shop thing, and need extra oomph to pursue someone. That would be it.

But then I wouldn't be dating if I had that jag. I'd be too busy stroking the shinyness.

watchoutforthatsnail · 04/02/2013 13:31

oh no, hope you feel better soon velv.

my grandad had jags

mercury7 · 04/02/2013 13:36

I'm inclined to think that men would feel emasculated by a woman with the wherewith-all to afford a high status car??

VelvetSpoon · 04/02/2013 13:37

My friend with the BMW doesnt date, men are too intimidated by her.

I've been out with several blokes with really nice cars. Most of them were complete knobbers though. My lovely Ex only had a Mondeo although he did have dreams of buying a Triumph Spitfire Grin. Not even sure what car Cuthbert drives....

Thanks Watch, am hoping I perk up soon, I hate being ill. And I need to plan what I'm cooking for Cuthbert on Friday, which I can't whilst the thought of food is making me ill!

mercury7 · 04/02/2013 13:54

plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose

guys still want a little woman who'll look up to him, boost his status and make him feel like a man
they dont want a go -getter with a her own big shiny penis substitute:o

why are we still single?
guess we just aint demure enough!

sorry about my glaring stereotypes & sweeping generalisations BlushBlushBlush
guilty as charged!!!

if I had a high income I'd be inclined to not mention it incase it attracted men who were looking for a 'sugar momma' but I've found that men always find some way to brag about or mention their income even though it's just a casual thing and I dont stand to benefit in any way from his money

VoiceofUnreason · 04/02/2013 14:13

Two things I have never understood. Most men's obsession with cars. Most men's obsession with either football, rugby or cricket.

I couldn't care less about a car as long as it is safe and gets me from A to B and doesn't cost too much to run. And I've always found those sports boring.

Shit. I'm gay, aren't I? Grin

JulietteMontague · 04/02/2013 14:15

guess we just aint demure enough!

A friend of mine finds it strange that I am not having more online dating success like her friend. But, she said, her friend is very feminine Hmm

JulietteMontague · 04/02/2013 14:19

Voice actually I have only dated a couple of men who were into football, it tends to go with other traits that are not for me. Also my profile specifically makes an allusion to big cars. Sporty men yes, but I don't class Sunday league as a sport.

lubeybooby · 04/02/2013 14:19

Voice I know a chap you would get on with. He gets bored to death in a pub surrounded by sports fans going on about football/rugby/cricket. He definitely isn't gay. Unfortunately he has way too many issues for me to date (terminal unfaithfulness) but he is a good friend.

OP posts:
JulietteMontague · 04/02/2013 14:24

A lot of men can't stand football and the fuss that goes with it. Maybe they self select by avoiding football men so the football men think all men like it.

AndLibbyMakesThree · 04/02/2013 14:26

I think perhaps I need a slap with the wet fish. I've been seeing Mr C for two months now, and I like him a lot. The problem is, that makes me feel really vulnerable. My very first boyfriend left me after the best week we'd ever had together, so, no matter how well things are going, it doesn't reassure me at all. I'm quite insecure about certain things and suddenly it's all welling up inside me. I'd really welcome any advice. I really don't want to talk to Mr C about it at the moment (and am praying that my previous concerns were wrong and that he doesn't read this thread).

Re cars - I'm another one who has absolutely no interest in them. Except Beetles. Beetles are just so cute.

Velvet, hope you feel better soon.
OWW, good luck at the dentist.

lubeybooby · 04/02/2013 14:38

Libby I am not sure there really is any advice to give - you wouldn't finish with him on the strength of feeling insecure, so all you can do really is take each day as it comes and enjoy the nice things.

Unless his behaviour (say, lack of involving you in his life, lack of mention of future plans, generally keeping you dangling, commenting on other women, etc etc) makes you actually feel insecure then that's a different thing.

Ex has a high end sports car (don't want to give too much detail away, you never know who read this stuff). He got rid of it though and said it was a silly purchase.

Also he was late 50's, the oldest fucker man I have ever dated, he did look good for it and knew it and guess what, although I am quite a few years younger than him I think he thought I was too old and wanted someone still in their 40's!
