OMG wow there are some really nasty pieces of work out there, namely the MIL. Assasinate the lot of them ! !
Mine is really ok it the FIL who is a bastard. Told my dp if i were him he would leave me and told me i was a very selfish woman ( when i no fuoly in my heart i am very much not). His poor diabetic wife waits on him all day long. (she is a tiny put-down little mouse) He bosses her about in the most rude disrespectful manner and have seen her wash up at night at 11.15pm whilst he sits down as usual eating and watching TV. Hate him.

Well I have the ultimate nightmare...2 MIL's! (One is DH's stepmother...she's lovely). The real MIL is just this cloud that hangs over us. It's a constant effort to keep on the right side of her, and DH has such a guilt trip laid on him it just wears us out. Such high maintanance.

Thankfully not as obviously horrid as some of the characters you've all described. You poor poor things.

kickassangel · 16/05/2006 13:49

mine is lovely on the surface - wants to see us 4 or 5 times a year (250 miles away), buys presents etc very dull & boring, thinks a craft fair would be exciting for a 2yo,BUT, here's the scary bit. dh grew up witha step sister, only now we have to pretend whe never existed. she was legally disowned by dh's stepdad (the only dad he ever knew) what she did that was so terrible we pretend he was an only child? Married a nice sensible accountant, and became a nurse! apparently you HAVE to do a degree or they won't believe you exist. (Neither MIL or FIL even did 'A' Levels). I see trouble ahead if dd doesn't go to private schools & Oxbridge.

My 'MIL' sexually abused my DP when he was very young. She is now some sort of born again Christian and is in denial that it ever happened. DP thinks she is probably educationally subnormal. I'm inclined to agree. She gives me the creeps and I hate having her to stay - which is rare thankfully as dp wants her to rot in hell.

Flossam · 16/05/2006 14:01

Mine is pretty bad, but she is away for another few days so I am happily not thinking of any stories about her while I can pretend she maybe dosen't exist.... Grin

Mine is Pauline Fowler but a lot less agile. Smile Main activities include putting on the kettle (which I have come to appreciate since having a baby) and watching/listening to sport virtually all day. She talks about herself and her friends from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave, even if you've never met them.

When she turned up after the birth of my DS (massively prematurely because my Mum couldn't stay away), I was still in the room where the birth took place so you can imagine the carnage and the first thing she said was 'in my day you were expected to give birth on a trestle table' then she, my Mum and DP's sister enjoyed a lovely glass of champagne whilst I showered!!!

Her favourite men in the whole world are Jeffrey Archer and Frank Sinatra. I rest my case.

I shouldn't sabotage my own entry in to this contest but she's also capable to great kindness too!

I'm pregnant with 4th child.Got 2 ds from previous relastionship and got dd to husband who has always treated all kids as his own they've even legally got his surname, we weren't bothered at all what this baby was and found out yesterday it's a ds told mil who said how lovely for her son so i said as far as he was concerned the other 2 ds we're his she said well this 1 will mean more as it's blood! I am very upset by this and hope my other ds's don't find out or get left out. She's a b**!

Pinotmum · 17/05/2006 17:01

My MIL is a pain sometimes but she's OK. 3Kids your MIL is a prize bitch. Give her a slap from me please.

Crystaltips · 17/05/2006 17:28

My MIL is the devil incarnate.

She has :

  • let DD ( aged 3 ) play with a carving knife
  • Held DS over a BBQ
  • Phoned my parents telling them DH should not have married me
  • Snooped round our house and read my diary when we were away
  • Fallen over numerous times when drunk ( amongst other things )
  • used the F and C words infront of the kids
  • Made numerous criticisms about my abilities as a parent and wife.
  • Given me presents and taken them back
  • Had me take her to the loo - ( whilst drunk ) fell over and racked her head on the basin - and I ended up having to pull up her knickers ..... NOW COME ON .... surely I didn't agree to that when reciting my wedding vows !!!

COW

beckybrastraps · 17/05/2006 17:30

Now I see why there's going to be no wine on Sunday Crystaltips. Or a barbeque. Or a roast?

Crystaltips · 17/05/2006 17:33

That's the tip of the iceberg !!Wink

Normsnockers · 17/05/2006 17:38

Decant alcohol free wine into a bottle stating 11% or higher and act dumb.

Fgs don't give her alcohol if you might have to pull her knickers up after a toilet trip. The mind boggles !

Greyhound · 18/05/2006 09:23

OMG Crystaltips! Any one of those incidents chills me to the core! What an evil woman...

iamtalkinboutu · 26/07/2006 02:56

I want to play!! Pick me pick me!

My MIL Dearest, let my hubby's ex wife move in with her the week we got married. Then repeatly came to our house to let me know how the ex was having a hard time with the fact I was now living HER life. HELLO it's MY life!!

Does not acknowledge my sons, but now doesn't even treat OUR son (mine and HER son)as she treats his other sons from 1st marriage. We will call them "her grandsons".
She actually let "her grandsons" bring home a souviners to let everyone else know they didn't get anything.

She didn't even know my sons birthday who technically is her grandson by blood!!!!

She is evil!!

minko · 26/07/2006 22:33

I need a MIL rant and this seems to be the place to do it!

Is it unreasonable when I am 35 weeks pregnant and suffering in a heat wave whilst also organising DD1's birthday party for Saturday not to want the rents in law to stay for a week? MIL is also keen that her other son and his family should come down too and camp in our garden. So I should cater for 9 people. I should point out she is NOT the kind of MIL that helps out, she is more the kind that sits and expects to be waited on.

I have had a bit of a nervous breakdown about the whole thing and now brother in law and family aren't coming but MIL is making noises about why I am making a fuss! I am obviously spoiling her family reunion fun...

Aaaargh, stupid old COWBAG!

anthonykiedisbitontheside · 26/07/2006 22:38

My mil is cool but she's incredibly dippy it's hilarious, she once tried to turn a cd over to play the otherside. She also has this habit of farting then saying "Ooh squeaky floorboards". Also when Richarrd Whitely from countdown died me and sil were talking about it and mil said "What, oh no that's terrible, he was o young" We thought this was a slight over reaction then she said "What will poor Judy do now" . Saying that she did annoy the hell out of me when we lived with them for four months, she kept on interfering in any disagreement dp and I had taking his side .

anthonykiedisbitontheside · 26/07/2006 22:39

She also leaves the prices on every present she ever buys and they are always on sale, we once got a whole dinenr service and every mug had a woolworths priced marked down stciker on the bottom

anthonykiedisbitontheside · 26/07/2006 22:39

Dunno what happened with ym typing there I think i'm turning into cod!

MrsSpoon · 26/07/2006 22:43

I'm tired just thinking about my MIL, I don't think there are enough pages on MN available to take up my complaints but she can't remember our four year old's name (she only has two grandchildren and is not quite 60 yet).

anthonykiedisbitontheside · 26/07/2006 22:44

Mrs spoon my mil calls my ds Adam (his name is jack) but it's because my dd is called Eve!

MrsSpoon · 26/07/2006 22:46

LOL! Glad we are not the only ones, makes you feel like bashing them sometimes.

anthonykiedisbitontheside · 26/07/2006 22:49

To be fair she does have 6 kids and 7 grandchildren and everyone is everyone elses name before theirs iyswim so it's like "ruthjoypaulwillimeanmark".

Chandra · 26/07/2006 22:53

There is not enough space to describe MIL here, the only thing that I can say is that if I had to put again with the levels of constant abuse she has given me in the past, I would rather end my marriage.

littleducks · 27/07/2006 10:22

my mil, well she is horrible to me and worse with my sil so much so that i am the only dil that will still speak to her and how i wish i didnt have to.

  1. Shortly after i met her she told me a story which she had humiliate my sil and she has told this to as many people as she can. My bil had a car accident and broke his neck he was in hospital, my sil asked her to take her to the hosp after a fuss they did ( they were going anyway just didnt think sil should see him) and wouldnt give them any time alone so bil had to ask in front of her if his wife could change his underwear as he felt uncomfortable with the nurse doing it. Mil told everyone that he wanted her to do this so that the could get her out the room and get up to something. He was in a brace fgs. 2)Loudly tells my dd (3 month) that i love my niece more than dd just because she ignores my niece and makes a big fuss of dd in front of her cousins so i try and distract other kids so they dont feel left out.
  2. ruined my wedding and is desperatly trying to engineer it so that on my weddoing anniversary we are apart 4)insisted dh go abroad with her when i was 6 months pregnant (long haul flight far) as it was too dangerous for her to go alone and she HAD to go then to sort out property, wouldnt take bil who was able to go,i had hyperemesis gravidarum and ended up in hospital dehydrated as i couldnt look after myself. then she went back alone 6 weeks later. i could go on but think thats enough for you to see she not that nice a person.
