Hubby told me not to buy kids any more toys for Xmas :/

So what do I get a 7,5 and 2 month old!? He is such a Scrooge ! He is from a third world country mind and had no toys ! He see's them as clutter but I can't not buy them can I !?

Yes you can.

Why not get books or paints or a subscrption to a club or membership to a sealife centre? It some clothes.

Frankly the two month old won't even notice.

Can you get the7 year old clothes, educational stuff or DVDs? The 2 month old won't know or care so wouldn't bother getting them anything.

I don't get my DD a christmas present. She gets a balloon. She loves it.

You need to be firm. There's no way you can let a 7 and 5 year old wake up to no toys on Christmas morning!

Would it help to explain that as they grow up they need different toys to stimulate them and help them to develop?

He's thinking of money but he should be thinking of how his children are going to feel. a 7 years old and a 5 year old are going to be really upset. (the baby won't know or care, so that won't be a problem ) It's not about money to them. They aren't going to understand that.

and my husband is from a third world country and if he 'told' me that, he'd be told to sod right off. He had no toys, nobody did. But it was a different time, a different place. THIS is not a third world country 30 or however many years ago. This is a western country today. And it won't be a case of everyone having nothing. It will be a case of your children having nothing while looking on and seeing all their friends with things and they are going to feel wretched. And unloved. Cos kids aren't mini adults. They don't see things the way we do. They won't go ah, well, toys are such a waste of money, we have some, we don't need any more.

I know what a mean old fart he is ! The 7 yr old would prefer dvd's and a moshi membership etc yea the 2 month old wont know but the 5 yr old will b bloody hard!

Christmas is hard when the parents have totally different upbringings because everyone wants it their way. Could you come to a compromise?

Educational toys don't need to be boring. My dd has a lot of toys and they never hold her attention for that long anyway. I'm getting her New easel and loads of new craft stuff - she will be delighted!

Exactly harsh pants! His sister doesn't buy for hers either now she is wondering y her 10 yo is rebelling! I'm fed up with it we get this every year the hard thing is I have to buy it al as he point blank refuses ! He will buy them clothes or shoes tho so t least he acknowledges it! All he got for Xmas as a child was a church service and a meal

Well in a word he doesn't like buying then much as yes money is tight:/ they don have that many toys they have tonns of books though and dressing up stuff Thomas trains and sylvanian family bits but that's it really toy wise everything is books really .

does he mean more as in none or more as in you have already done shoppping, you should declutter, I am busy ridding ourselves of everything they dont use

Once thing I have bought mine which is a massive hit, is a huge box of crafty stuff from Baker Ross, they love "making" and its been brilliant.

I have only so far bought them one toy each for Xmas that's all I've managed to do. He huffed at that lol but I get disheartened with Xmas every year because every year we have this disagreement over it.

I get from charity shops and second hand a lot.

No I have bought one thing each which they want that's it . So how much more do I buy ? Is one enough ? I don't know ? I've had a deck utter already think it looks worse as they are in a room together but once they are separated it will look less in each room.

Everything stores under their beds it's really not a huge amount seriously.

We're not big on toys in our family but our kids (there are four) still have a lot because other people buy them for them. They don't have electronic things though because we actively object to them. The kids no why, they don't feel "wretched" they understand our reasons.

The only problem I see here is that the two parents have different opinions and are not working together with the same ideals. Neither side is wrong per se you just have different beliefs and the conflict rather than compromise is no good for anyone.

The 2 month old doesn't need toys but the older one should have some. Just get what you feel is appropriate.

I love piles and piles and piles of presents, huge SHINEY piles, my DH is not overly impressed , but I am amazing at getting bargains, as long as I get rid before the new stuff comes, he doesn't mind so much.

Thats because thats how I grew up though, we also have 25 days of Christmas, we do something Christmassy every day for the whole of December, even if its only a Christmas drawing or painting, I want Christmas to be about more than presents, how would he feel about that?
