DSM is getting married! Let's give her a 24 hour virtual hen party and warn her of what she can expect as a wife. (Fun, cheery advice and warnings please to send her to her wedding day in a state of bliss.)

Ooh yummy..and no, they can't leave their hats on...
Congrats DSM, me n DP don't tie the knot for another 4 months yet so no advice on marriage other than something my mum told me when DP proposed.. "don't forget, being the man doesn't give him the monopoly on wearing trousers..." I'm not fully sure I understand but she's been married to my dad for 30 years so she must know something!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 19:15

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 19:45

Did I miss the strippers?
Karimajokey? "let's stick together, c'mon c'mon..."
Oh a full Monty! Very nice!
I very much like the bit about telling them they're too old to do it. Another one is going straight for, "I think I'll get a man in to..." (emphasis on "man"!)
I seem to have forgotten my advice, must be those shots!

Oh God DSM, we've been together ages and not got married, so I'm the last one for advice, but, um....
Don't be surprised if you're completely knackered by the end of the day and sex is the last thing on your mind

He must ALWAYS do the bins

Don't be afraid to have completely different interests, especially if his are boring, as long as you do some stuff together!

aethelfleda · 08/08/2012 20:06

Ooh yeah, definitely he does the bins!

Plus gardening negociations are also useful: if you like gardening get him to "take charge" of the lawn as will keep him happy while you do the more interesting bits. Of course if you hate gardening then it's clearly mens' work

and I confess to being old enough not to know what sourz are. Are we talking absolut flavoured vodka type, or vile mouthwash like 20:20 ? Pass some over anyway, I'm well beyond the expresso!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 20:07

Sadwidow DP said he didn't agree with that rule lol.

DP tiz laughing and shaking his head at all these rules hehehe.

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:11

Communication and trust are the foundations for a good marrage along with forgiveness as everyone makes mistakes and a huge dose of humour.

Make time everyday to hug each other and say i love you.

When things get hard remeber your a team and working together you both can get thru anything.

Everyday you make the happy family memories that your children will remeber for the rest of their lives.

Smiles and laughter makes a house a home full of love.

Give respect and hold yourself worthy of respect in return.

Love and accept love in return.

You hold his heart in your hands treat it with the same care as he treats yours.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 20:13

Air That's lovely advice thank you x

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:13

Set the ground rules now cos you will be living with them for the rest of your life so make them good ones lol

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 20:16

Like I am always right Grin

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:23

Yep :)

anairofhopeFORGOLD · 08/08/2012 20:24

Where are you getting married? Church or civil service?

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 20:26

Good advice air!
My mum told me to NEVER stop kissing. Once it stops,it's really hard to get back.

DH says: it's always the woman's turn to go to the bar. And I say, it's always the man's turn to drive! - So thanks for dropping me at the virtual party, you can beggar orf now! Grin

OP posts:
aethelfleda · 08/08/2012 20:31

oi, are you allowed to come up for air occasionally??

doner with garlic mayo anyone?

KurtWild · 08/08/2012 20:35

Can I get chilli sauce on mine, Ooh and chips

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 20:35

Someone else said earlier about the first 5 minutes when you/he comes home being the most important, and I absolutely agree (for you and the kids). All the expectation is saved up and waited for all day, and if you are too busy/tired to take notice and listen for the first 5 minutes, all their hopes and expectations are dashed.
So give the first 5 minutes, forget your tiredness or haste, listen and enjoy. Then you can say, "I'm tired, give me a moment to take my coat off and get a cup of tea..."
Doing that for just that first 5 mins when you first see your DH/children/boss/customer will make you the perfect wife/mother/employee/company.
Moments of truth!

MyLittleMiracles · 08/08/2012 20:39

Dont ever stop talking, love each other even when the going gets tough and it will.

WHERE ARE THE STRIPPERS!!!!

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 20:54

Oi Can you come up for air if you never stop kissing?

The first thing DP does when he comes home is find me and give me a kiss, cuddle and an alright. Same for me to him.

OiMissus · 08/08/2012 21:07

I'll have a screwdriver up against a wall on a cold, long island beach, please. Hic!

OP posts:
DeterminedandSpecialMum · 08/08/2012 21:10

Where's the full Monty lot then?
