Anybody with an iPhone 3 please help - can porn sites somehow show in advanced options?

I would be so grateful if someone with an iPhone 3 could help as the google searches are not very comprehensive. I looked at my husbands iPhone last night and in settings, safari, advanced options it lists a lot of websites. Many that were listed were porn sites and adult dating sites.

My husband swears he has not looked at these sites and says they must be cookies... The advanced option is only on iPhone 3. I don't suppose someone with an iPhone 3 could check for me and see if there are any sites listed there that they have not visited? Thank you so much in advance.

I have tried the apple Manual but it doesn't cover it at all - the 200 pages are more to help you use the device but there is nothing on how to understand what's stored :-(

Google is a grand old thing! Hope this helps.

CarpeJugulum · 01/04/2012 21:17

Well, I've just looked at mine and there were a load there I didn't recognise. No porn though (but I wouldn't have expected there to be any!)

But, I would say, having clicked on a few that seemed more normal, that they all seem to be linked to sites that I have visited - adverts on these sites.

I would therefore reluctantly say that the balance of probability is that he's been on dodgy sites as no reputable sites that I know advertise adult services - although if he does visit sites like illegal download sites, they may carry these types of adverts.

I would check with Apple - your local store may be able to help; alternatively their customer services have always been very helpful to me.

MadAboutHotChoc · 01/04/2012 21:18

My H has a iphone and yes, the websites listed on safari are those that you have visited.

CarpeJugulum · 01/04/2012 21:20

Meant to say, my phone is set to accept all cookies not just from visited sites.

TooEasilyTempted · 01/04/2012 21:31

I look at porn but not at adult dating or any interactive sites.

Ive just checked in advanced options an there are a few sites listed (dating/hook up sites) that I've definitely never visited.

losttheflickumdickumagain · 01/04/2012 21:36

Fuck fuck fuck fuck. Just checked my husbands out of curiosity, and we are going through a terrible time. There's loads there Sad.

www.bobulous.org.uk/misc/third-party-cookies.html

Read the section on 3rd party cookies everyone before jumping to conclusions!
Also has info on how to block these advertising cookies too.

Houseofplain · 01/04/2012 21:54

I have a 4s husband a 4. Just checked both. An extensive list of sites not in the history. None of which were porn nor dating sites on either phone.

But all previous visits.

So if his is chock full, I'd say he was lying.

Rhinosaurus · 01/04/2012 22:17

I have just looked on my 4, and there are a couple of porn sites in there, one being pornzzz.com and the other match.com which I know for sure I have never visited. My phone has a password on it that comes up after a minute in standby so it can't be oh or kids. Perhaps those animated adverts you see on some pages particularly forums set a cookie?

Pumpster · 01/04/2012 22:24

I'd say he's definitely been looking at porn, but the dating sites advertise on there which would explain the cookies from them, possibly.

Kayzr · 01/04/2012 22:25

I have an iPhone 4 and my cookies are set to just visited and it's only websites I have been too.

Rhinosaurus · 01/04/2012 22:30

He could also be visiting sites which are "hotlinking" pictures from other hosts, this sometimes happens on forums, which may show as a site visited even though only one picture from the site has been viewed.

That being said, there are obviously trust issues if you are going down his phone to this extent, you need to ask yourself why you are compelled to do this.

maleview70 · 01/04/2012 22:32

I checked mine and it's only sites I've visited.

I didn't even know that existed so it makes it look even worse as he probably won't have done either. Easy to clear browsing history.

Rhinosaurus · 01/04/2012 22:45

I have looked on my ipad, and there is Boden and the white company websites showing as visited, which I know for sure I haven't..... But..... Both carry adverts on mumsnet, so that could well be where they come from. However, if there are loads of porn sites, I think that is stretching the optimism of thinking its innocent a bit too far.

Ineedadollar · 01/04/2012 23:15

He's lying.
Sorry.

inatrance · 01/04/2012 23:17

It seems to be only sites I have visited on mine. I think I would be suspicious if I were you. Sad

losttheflickumdickumagain · 01/04/2012 23:45

Just want to apologise for previous sweary post Grin had a bit of a panic attack there Grin.

Curiouslife · 05/04/2012 19:41

Just a quick update. Dh has said that he has found the source of the links on his phone - a coin pushing (arcade style game). Apparently he had something saying yes when it should say no on the phone and this allowed the game site to add various sites to his phone.

Does this sound remotely possible to anyone who understands how these things work?

OP posts:
ShirelyKnottage · 05/04/2012 19:47

If he's talking about the coin dozed app then I'm sorry, but that game is aimed at kids as well and I would think its highly unlikely.

Let me check, I have an iPhone 3 AND the coin dozen app, so I should have porny/hook up sites in my safari settings then.

I'll be back

DairyNips · 05/04/2012 19:49

He's lying. That is just so far fetched.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 05/04/2012 19:50

The problem with many of these pop ups is that if you click them, even to click no, you create a link with that website as you are interacting with it.

It is entirely possible for this to happen. Tell him to uninstall the game, buy the paid for version, or play it offline only. Any of these options will prevent it happening again.
(btw I've commented on this thread as vegimalstyle previously)

Curiouslife · 05/04/2012 19:51

Thanks Shirley - that's kind of what I thought but would love anything to make it true. It's just the not knowing if he is the person I think he is- wish I'd never looked

OP posts:
ShirelyKnottage · 05/04/2012 19:51

Right. Just checked and all of the sites which are on there are places I've visited. Nothing porny or website hook up stuff at all.

Sorry.

SillyBeardyDaddyman · 05/04/2012 19:53

shirely just as a matter of interest, have you ever clicked the advertising links?
