interesting to find out - ours is 'sunshine on leith' by the proclaimers - surprisingly romantic actually!

My mother gave each child its own song. Mine was:

My sister's was "Daisies are our silver" and my brother's was "You are my sunshine". I used to feel really shortchanged when I was a kid

oh just wondering 'cos i am and i always thought of that song as being a liverpudlian song.i have a recording of a liverpool folk group called the spinners singing it-it's so sweet, and my mum used to sing it to me too.
it's the last verse that gets me-
oh you've got your fathers face,
you're growing up a real hard case,
but there's nooneelse can take your place
so go to sleep for your mammy....sob!! gets me every time!

I never knew that...I remember my mum mentioning the spinners, I know she liked them, but I didn't know that song was by them, or that it had other verses! I just thought it was a horrible joke

glad to oblige! it has other verses about how hard it is when dad drinks all the money away but things will get better when you win the pools!!!
