I don't come onto this section much as I don't want to "rubberneck" at other people's misfortunes, but whenever I do look at a thread or two, I'm always astounded at the time, effort and emotional energy that some MNers invest in helping complete strangers. And it's always the same names. So many wise words; so many people helped.

I agree. I've had so much support on here over the past 7 months as my relationship went through two bad patches and ultimately ended horribly. If the harpies could now remove the pain in my chest and the mind dulling sadness that would also be nice :(

They are not all man-haters. I often read an unkind post directed at a man and wonder what he is like in RL, but often its followed pretty much straightaway by someone else suggesting its not all his fault. So it isn't all one-way traffic, honest.

But where is the wonderful wwifn? I was away for a bit and now she's gone? Or name changed? I don't think it's man hating on here. Just supportive of women. Wish there'd been mumsnet when I was young and having my babies and I recommend to all the mums I know now, young and old!

It's not so much man-hating as holding men to decent standards of treating others, especially their wife/girlfriend! the hating is directed at those who fall below those standards

I agree OP! I am going through a really shit time and posting in relationships has helped me so much. I read through the advice late at night when I cannot sleep and crying/worrying. Helps me so much.

not everything comes at the right time for you

some of it feels very, very uncomfortable to hear

some of it we are not ready for

some of it can feel like an attack on someone we love

lots of it we can absorb and apply it to our own lives, lots we can discard as just not relevant, or not relevant for right now

the collective wisdom of Mn though, is a brilliant resource, to use as, how and when it suits us best

Well, I'm one of the beneficiaries of some of the good advice that's on offer here as well as much support and understanding, so a thank you from me to all those people who take time out of their, no doubt, busy lives to help strangers.

I have to ask, why did WWIFN leave? I always enjoyed reading her wise words. I also used to love a poster called Grace, I think she was calling herself GraceAgain when I last read her postings, but I've not seen her around for ages. She was an absolutely lovely poster, helped me a lot working through family stuff on Stately Homes. I used to wish I knew her in RL, she was just so wise and kind (had a break from MN when DS born last year and again after moving house this year, so maybe I missed something).

I'm another fan of WWIFN. That doesn't mean I always agreed with her, but we were able to discuss differences like rational beings. It wasn't nasty. That thread to which you refer, that really was. It's a pity the bastards won.
