The Brave Babes Battle Bus - Carry On Past The Christmas Party (part 1)

1000 replies

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 03/12/2010 16:22

Hello.

Welcome to The Brave Babes Bus. I'm Mouseface and I used to abuse alcohol and to be honest, there is always a risk that I'll do it again.

This is a bus journey for those who drink too much, or drink now and then, not at all, or actually aren't quite sure what their drinking means to them.

Come and meet the other Brave Babes, everyone is welcome. Xmas Smile

rubyredlips · 15/12/2010 12:53

Hi JWN - You are very young my dear. I'm heading towards 40 (very soon), I am married with 2 young un's under 3 - a DS and a DD.

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 15/12/2010 12:54

desire - Yep, I think it is. I thought I was over the need to drink. Not the need, sorry, I'm not sure what I want to write.

Basically, I was shocked that I chose to pick up and CONTINUE drinking last night. I feel like I let my gaurd down to the doctor yesterday and that he saw that.

I feel that he took a peek inside my mind. He opened boxes I have fought to keep shut for many years and I guess I feel utterly exposed today.

I'll be okay but I now know that small doses, now and then, once in a blue moon, really is all I should drink.

Sorry Ruby to waffle on. Blush

How much do you drink at the min Ruby - do I take it by your name you either love red wine or red lipstick :):)

rubyredlips · 15/12/2010 12:56

It's the red wine Desire. I do like red lipstick but it doesn't suit me (neither does the red wine for that matter)

I'm a binger really, I can go for a good while without drinking (well a couple of weeks) but when I do I tend to get blasted.

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 15/12/2010 12:58

Thanks Ruby re the doctor.

JWN - is something happening tomorrow? There's something I must remember? Xmas Grin

Are you doing anything nice??

OP posts:
jesusthisstableiscrowded · 15/12/2010 13:02

mouse - i think we are all in danger of feeling like you do today - all the baggage we carry round with us is often just simmering beneath the surface, it just takes an arse to open the lid! try not to drink today, be gentle to yourself and try and kind of 'turn your brain off' - listen to some soothing classical music maybe?, i find it helps me - just helps me calm down and breathe more freely iyswim?

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 15/12/2010 13:09

Thank you JWN.

I just feel emotionally battered today. It will pass and once I've spoken to my own GP later, I'm sure I'll feel better again.

Thank God for this thread! Xmas Smile

ah ha! tomorrow!!! Xmas Grin

i will be having a lovley day!,in the afternoon im going into london for a carol service and then off out for dinner in the city - its actually our office do, but we are all more friends than collegues and all the kids come too, so, about 20 of us! Xmas Grin (i have a slinky black velvet dress with silver sparkly high heels and long dangly sparkly earrings!)

also, before i go i will be popping into my AA christmas party!! Xmas Grin should be a sober affair!!! Xmas Grin

MIFLAW · 15/12/2010 13:17

If I could just attempt to draw something positive from the recent debacle ...

As most of you know, I do my not drinking the AA way. That's my personal choice and is by no means the only way.

However, one of the things that I found amazing in AA, long before I came anywhere near to my last drink, was the arguments. Because, when these people - all of them self-confessed drunks, just like me - had a falling out, they would nevertheless come back the next week, and the next, and the next. And the fact that they were'nt getting on with someone on a personal level seemed to have no effect on their willingness to help that person when the shit hit the fan.

Such maturity and selflessness won my support far more thoroughly than any Steps ever could. And I really do feel that the same thing happens on this thread. We fall out occasionally - but, though it might be distracting to the naked eye, it doesn't get in the way of our willingness to deal with the real issue of miserable problem drinking.

If I ever thought Forthe was having a problem with her drinking then my priority would be to help her rather than win the latest theoretical spat, and I am convinced that she would do the same for me.

Alcoholics/Problem drinkers are real, ordinary people, with all that that entails; what's wonderful is when they are prepared to rise above that to deal with a common problem.

Speech over; you can put your lighters away now.

jesusthisstableiscrowded · 15/12/2010 13:22

miflaw!!, you intellectuals dont half make me laugh! Xmas Grin, why use one word (like 'sorry') when a whole paragraph will do!! Xmas Grin

btw, if you help forthe as much as you've helped me then she is a lucky girl!! Xmas Smile

also - does your regular meeting have a christmas party?

TheMousefaceBeforeChristMouse · 15/12/2010 13:23

JWN - I bet you will have the best birthday ever. Mostly because you will remember it.

Look how far you've come! And this Christmas is your Christmas. Your time to shine and to make up for all the others times that you've blacked out etc.

This year, this year you will be YOU! xx

After 3.... 1, 2, 3....

NO PROJECTING Ruby!!!

Worry about tomorrow night, tomorrow night okay? That's great that you've not had a drink since Saturday.

The fact that you passed out from it is not. So let's start there?

How can you reduce the amount you drink or do you want to stop all together?
