Difference between a man's woman and a woman's woman

Today I heard one mum describe another as "a man's woman, not really a woman's woman" feel a bit stupid asking, but what does it imply and is it an insult?

think it depends on the context...I would probably describe myself as more of a boy's girl than a girl's girl, but that's based on the fact that the majority (though not a massive majority) of my friends are gay men, then straight men, then straight women then lesbians.

I think it can probably be used as an insult by someone who sees another woman as a threat because she naturally gets on with men (regardless of whether or not she also gets on with women)

Having said this, I do have a lot of close female friends, though they tend to be more on-on-one friendships, I don't really have a big girly group

Marylin Monroe was a man's woman, Nigella is a man's woman, while Oprah is a woman's woman, as is Lorraine Kelly. With this in mind, it would only be an insult if you perceived yourself to be the former but was seen to be the latter (vice versa).

Me? I am a man's woman all the way and would be horrified if someone saw me as a woman's woman .

A man's woman conjures up images of a woman who is desperate for male approval and puts herself in competition with other women for it, so on that basis, I would say it is an insult.

I am a woman's woman, despite being extremely attractive, so it's win-win for me

I don't tend to bond well with men's women, and the feeling is pretty mutual

You will probably get lots of posters piling in to say they are a "people person" however, which seems very boring and right-on to me

I used to think I was a man's woman. In that i felt I had little in common with women.

Growing up they were not as much fun, all revolved around boys, make up and competitions as to who could be the most vapid.

Then I lived in a male dominated country. I saw them for what they can be when they get it all their own way. It's not pretty.

I give thanks to God every day that I was born a woman, in the West, in a country where people, men and women laid down their reputations and lives so that we can expect equality.

I am NOT a man's woman. I now celebrate women, mothers, sisters and daughters. I will teach my DS to do the same. I may have come to the idea late, but at least I have come in time to teach my son that women and men are entitled to the same treatment.

This I could never have done if I were a man's woman.

I think a man's woman looks like she'd get a kick out of stealing your bloke whereas a woman's woman is non-threatening in that way.

I like men and I like women. I different things from my relationships with different genders.

The women in my class consider me a man's woman. I think that it is because, I am a bit of a geek, I like having shite conversations (who would win in a fight? and that sort of thing), and the men in my class feel v. comfortable around me. I have always had male friends. I always wear jeans and rarely wear make-up. More Tasmin Greig (on my best looking days) then Marilyn Monroe.

I am just in touch with and comfortable with my masculine side.
