Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

Oh, wow, well remembered, @Madcats!

He mentions it in this interview (which is more about the schedule and process of writing TA).

To be honest if someone drove into my gate and wrecked it I would expect for them to pay for it, I wish I could be more assertive like Helen, straight away she said as long as you pay for a new gate. No messing about no humming and arring straight in.
Also I agree that Jazzer shouldn't have been having a chat about the pigs whilst he was teaching silly hollicks ( Brad ) to drive. Brad may know his sums, but he knows little else about anything else.
He should help Jazzer to put the new fence up , then he would learn something practical for a change.

JoelenesParrot · 25/09/2026 10:36

No question Brad should pay for the gate. But why is he driving so fast. I seem to remember it took a long time for me to reach 2nd gear when I was learning to drive. He should be doing bunny hops round the car park at this stage. Unless things are different when you learn in an automatic. Do we know what kind of car Tracey has?

Helen’s reference to the fast-track passes was great writing. Poor Tracey.

EBearhug · 25/09/2026 12:44

When I first got a car, which was some years after passing my test, because of poverty and being a student, I was so used to walking and cycling everywhere that 30mph seemed ridiculously fast!

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/09/2026 15:37

Shortly after passing my test in the 1970s I moved to London where it was a rarity to reach 30 mph. Going back to my parents on the motorway and country lanes frightened me to death.

I have no idea why that is in Italics but it seems to have stopped of its own accord now.

Good to hear Amber drop all the Influencer nonsense and realise what really matters.

DeanElderberry · 25/09/2026 19:22

Joseph Robert, to be called JR.

I hope.

TottersBlankly · 25/09/2026 19:27

It is a bit of a shame he’s not a Josephine …

I can’t think beyond Robin for the coming Christmas baby. (Unimpressed with self.)

muddyford · 25/09/2026 19:34

Nicholas (after Saint) or Rudolph (after the red-nosed reindeer)?

FullOfLemons · 25/09/2026 20:00

Welcome (I hope) Bobo Grundy Gordon

Robin would go with Wren - would Kirsty like that or would it be too much?

TottersBlankly · 25/09/2026 20:57

That was my thinking - but it’s a bit … obvious. And we’ve had a Robin in the village within the past 35 years.

Sidebeforeself · 25/09/2026 21:48

Angelo? If Kirstys baby is a boy?

echt · 25/09/2026 22:41

Well that was a lovely episode. Good combination of the serious and the funny - I'm thinking Robert's picnic blanket on the car seat.

BeatriceBatchelor · 25/09/2026 23:05

Oh that was a grim listen.

Grim how?

AgentKim · 26/09/2026 05:26

Is it the same woman who was the nurse, the voice on the phone, the woman pip talked to about the Brca test, because they all sound like Usha to my old lug holes.
The baby will have Edward in there somewhere In its name.

Yes, it was that sort of birth narrative that put a whole cohort off reproducing, after our sex education series in the early 1970s. Of my group of four close friends, three of us chose not to have children and the fourth we don't know. We really don't need fifteen minutes of it after supper.

The noises coming from Amber. Her fear and distress. Luckily for her - and us - it had to be over in 13 mins but could've gone on for days.

Mere1 · 26/09/2026 07:27

BeaLola · 22/09/2026 19:47

I think Pip & Stella caved too quickly about the twins. Does that mean that Henry and Jack are also now invited and what about Martha ?

Stella should have stuck to her guns

Children should be at weddings. It’s life.

Frankly only DH and me + 2 witnesses (and registrar) at mine - it's a private commitment.

I thought it was fairly realistic given the short time available but then I'm not squeamish about birth and never have been.

Sounded quite realistic to me and not OTT at all, brief if anything, but its only a short programme. I take it you have never watched Call the Midwife.
