Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think working as a hotel receptionist is a perfectly reasonable career choice for a graduate from a family with a stately home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Hi @Every1ElseInKnowsley .

I am more invested in your potential date than any of the fledgling romances in TA. Lilly and Harrison give me hives - I do not know why.

A tip for you that I learned from a New York City friend. When she wants to meet she never says - "what are you thinking?" It is always "let's meet - does XX on YY suit or AA on BB."

It is SO EASY. I love it - no drama, three texts and done.

She wants it, she says it and she implements!

So for your chappie - this date - x place at this time on x day, or that place on Y date at Y time.

Anything else could make it run out of steam...

On first reading I thought DB was MN shorthand for dear brother and I thought “ Ew!”

I think 'Yuk!' when I see pics of him. Close relation of 'Ew!'. But defo not Dear Brother (which I haven't got).

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

You are in my thoughts at this sorrowful time.

I wonder when Jill's death will occur. I hope we're going to be spared "oh look at Jill doing the okey cokey" and "haven't Jill and Leonard made a grand job of the cake" at Pip's wedding.

I’m running behind and tbh usually don’t post but I’ve just listened to the episode where Khalil goes to Brookfield. I am genuinely distraught, I can’t believe David and Ruth are basically sentencing Monty to death, especiafter everything Linda has been through. I’m actually physically angry so needed to post this somewhere- I though Helen’s rape and George’s ridiculous role in the crash might do it, but I think this is going to be the thing that stops me listening.

I’ll never forgive the Brookfield Arches for this, I’m almost having unworthy thoughts about breast cancer!

Gonners
Hang on - if Scruff was swept away in March 2016 and returned on Christmas Eve 2016, having died in July 2016, was this some sort of time warp? 🤔

No, it's me committing a typo. He died in July 2016, but Ye Fludde was in 2015. Thanks for catching that!

Their sheep had been savaged by Monty. I don't think they were unreasonable and I'm a dog lover . Being ranted at by a teenage boy probably didn't help either.

Teddleshon1 · Yesterday 20:50

@SoVeryVeryBored what do you think would be the appropriate reaction to having your sheep and lambs savaged by an out of control dog?

SoVeryVeryBored · Yesterday 20:58

It was awful, I get that, but he could come back under very strict controls. Linda and Robert didn’t try to dodge responsibility. Harrison’s would not have walked out of my house unslapped.

But thanks for your sympathy, it really upset me and I actually cried, clearly this is not an archers safe space.

@SoVeryVeryBored perhaps fictional programmes set in agricultural communities for you.

My way of arranging a date would be 'Let's meet at [landmark, town, time, date] and we'll go for a coffee then head to [venue]' or something like that. With like-minded people, it works.

With others they'll do things like wait somewhere else because they'll see me walk out of the station from there. This is brilliant because I was there before them so had already passed where they are.
I am blessed with a sixth sense (ie. they've done it enough times for me) to know how their thinking works.

Not replied to MrShopper as I don't really know what to say.
What I really think is yes I rejected his suggestions but mainly from a safety POV. I barely know him. I made a reasonable suggestion and sure he might be busy but the slow replies don't work for me.
A quick 'Can't make 2 pm, can be there for 4. Is that ok?' is workable. Not one 13 hours later. Me replying 'Yes' to get a reply with 'Can we go to [other town] instead?', then saying 'ok [town] but can we meet Monday instead?'.

I’ve been listening for nearly 40 years. You’re just mean.

BeatriceBatchelor · Yesterday 22:07

Don't worry, Monty is being re-homed to a kindly retired police dog handler. Still been a horrid storyline. Poor sheep, poor Monty and poor Snells.

I detest Ruth.

Teddleshon1 · Yesterday 22:40

@BeatriceBatchelor it may well be a horrid storyline but it’s very realistic and happens up and down the country on a daily basis.

Let’s hope it helps to educate dog owners, of whom I am one.

Two of my school friends had their dogs shot by a sheep farmer.
