Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think working as a hotel receptionist is a perfectly reasonable career choice for a graduate from a family with a stately home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

We live in the country and have noticed several dog fields nearby, none of which ever seem to be used, perhaps because (so long as you keep dogs on leads where there’s livestock), most people seem to let their dogs run around all the fields (we put a fence up along one of our fields as a FP runs a ling it.

so I wonder whether there’s more of a market on the outskirts of towns, rather than in Ambridge

Geronimode · 16/09/2026 18:01

Mick mentioned testing the hair dryer what felt like a million times to me - assuming he means. PAT testing then that’s a valuable asset to a repair cafe - though not if they’re turning away electronics.

The whole thing is annoying me however becuase it seems like they had a round the clock drop off service and are frustrated they’re overwhelmed. Most of the ones local to me are once a month at a specific time and location.

I also refuse to believe Lynda has never heard of a dog field. “Tell me again, a field, for exercising… dogs” ridiculous.

Think Jolene is being very Jolene with the poisonous shrew, chop off his buttons business.

Harrison is lame and vile but I really hope he grows a backbone and sends Fallon packing. She can’t afford her house and she’s instigated the split. I can see why she wants to take the break up slowly - she wants Harrison to continue paying the lions share of their mortgage for as long as possible, preferably without the inconvenience of him living there. (Yet also not allowed to move on either.)

EBearhug · 16/09/2026 18:12

When I took an old music player to a repair cafe, they PAT tested it. They also only took things at particular times, so you couldn't drop it offer just because you were passing, and they wouldn't take some things if they knew they didn't have someone with suitable skills.

Basically, it was organised.

Meanwhile, in Ambridge...

Eastie77Returns · 16/09/2026 19:14

YES Harrison!

DeanElderberry · 16/09/2026 19:18

Yes indeed. Time for Fallon to check in with reality.

MorningCoffeePlease · 16/09/2026 19:19

WOO HOO! Harrison's finally grown a pair!!

Worried about all that yattering between Alan and Carol during an online banking transaction. Will a couple of noughts have been added to the flower bill in error and is Alan going to be in trouble?

DeanElderberry · 16/09/2026 19:47

Which would be better, Carol stealing all Alan's dosh, making a miraculous recovery and going on the lam OR Carol giving all her money to Alan (or the church) and dying a holy death, leaving Anna penniless (and homeless, at least in Ambridge)?

Eastie77Returns · 16/09/2026 20:13

“I’m moving back in but I won’t invite Lily over if you don’t want me to” made me laugh.

I’m glad Lily put Uncle Kenton in his place.

TottersBlankly · 16/09/2026 20:33

Well, it looks as if Alan will be the next Ambridge resident sporting an ankle tag …

BeardieWeirdie · 16/09/2026 20:41

DeanElderberry · 16/09/2026 09:47

I am convinced that a non-qualified person mending a hair dryer guarantees the electrocution of the user.

Sadly I can’t picture Pip owning a hairdryer.

LaMarschallin · 16/09/2026 20:44

Did Fallon actually expect Harrison to just move in with Lily after a couple of dates? And Lily to be fine with that?
It really is about time she copped on.
It was appalling of her and Jolene to start bagging up his stuff.
And who does Kenton think he is, accusing Lily of having an affair with Harrison?

Didn't Carol try to get him to help her with banking or money before all this?
If the SWs have got an early dementia on the cards for her, helping her with money is a dangerous thing to do.
I've seen people accused of stealing purely because someone has forgotten what they did with a sum of money and refuse to believe it's their memory at fault.

Yes he did help Carol with her banking previously - Anna was most put out and told him quite firmly (and rightly) that it was not his business to be doing her mother’s online banking.

Abra1t · 16/09/2026 20:51

I thought she was asking Alan for his credit card details to send the flowers?

TottersBlankly · 16/09/2026 20:54

The story didn’t make sense anyway. If Carol had her phone with her she could have ordered the flowers , or asked Alan to assist her with ordering them, online, from her own device. There’s absolutely no reason at all why Alan had to buy them first.

LillianGish · 16/09/2026 21:23

I agree @TottersBlankly - it’s so obvious where this is going though. Carole was back to her old self again tonight - she didn’t sound in the least like a 90-year-old with broken hip.
i think Kenton’s intervention may have pushed Lily towards Harrison - just to piss him off. I’m not sure what he was thinking of.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 16/09/2026 22:01

She's in her 90s.

ForAmberPoster · 16/09/2026 22:25

Go Harrison, about time!
Robert and Linda could do equity release and stay in their home, i think his daughters are ok financially

BeatriceBatchelor · 16/09/2026 22:29

Kenton is as creepy as his pirate wife. Interrogating a 26 year old woman about her sex life.

Glad Harrison has moved back into his house. Just wish he hadn't sounded so apologetic about it.

Darker · 16/09/2026 22:48

Robert and Lynda could buy Woodbine Cottage…. ?

Fallon and Harrison are unlikely to keep it on unless Harrison buys Fallon out.

Who will move into Rex’s narrowboat?

Glebe might become available soon.

Mulledjuice · 16/09/2026 22:56

i also immediately thought of John Finnemore's/ Jerry's lilo. Thank you @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0gfor bothering to find the script!

is it me, or does a Dog Field sound like an unwise choice for someone in a farming community who has just accepted a caution for a dog-related offence?

No, I thought that about the dog-field, too.

I was enjoying the fact that Harrison was so firm about it, presenting Fallon with a fait accompli and no room for argument. I also enjoyed Lily telling Kenton to fuck right off. We only need the scene where Pip announces her decision to emigrate permanently to make a very happy listener.

muddyford · 17/09/2026 06:42

Loved Lily and Harrison telling their respective families some long overdue home truths. How long was it between Sid's demise and Kenton getting his leg over Jolene?

AgentKim · 17/09/2026 07:22

Oh well done Harrison. That Fallon has a bloody cheek, and her mum ! packing his stuff up and putting it in the hall. How very dare they.
To be honest Harrison and Lily haven't done any thing wrong. Fallon told him it was over, so he was a STBXDH. They didn't have an affair and we're both single.
Its just the speed of the thing really, but even if Fallon and Harrison had been divorced for a couple of years, because it was Lily it would still cause a stink.
So now Fallon will go crying to Jolene, but there is nothing she can do about it either. Kenton is an arse! That's all I've got to say about him.
Go Harrison ! Go Harrison!.
All this boring Anna and Carol stuff is just filler. Sooner they go the better.
Oh and Ive done everything Joy's boyfriend Mucky Mick always knows someone who has done something or other ( which could help someone out).
That couple are amazing!!!!!

Yes, thanks.
I phrased it badly.
I meant if the SWs are writing her as starting to develop dementia, so she would be at an early stage of the illness, not "early" in terms of her age.
