Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think working as a hotel receptionist is a perfectly reasonable career choice for a graduate from a family with a stately home, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Harrison is being very flaky. Suggesting getting back with Fallon then telling Lily he sees their relationship as long term and calling her sweetheart. Making my toes curl.

But I agree, he and Fallon haven’t been on the same page for a long time and I’m sure something went on whilst he was up North so I don’t necessarily see it as too soon to get involved with someone else. But maybe not Lily 🫣

I agree about Harrison's flakiness but take it as further evidence of the SWs' capacity to bend a character. He would never have raised the getting back convo in the first place.

BoreOfWhabylon · 13/09/2026 16:07

The 🔮 suspects that Anna will distract herself from her woes by falling in lurve with Stella. Who will reciprocate, thus banjaxing the Brookfield nuptuals.

Bring. It. On.

Although my backup if brian cant produce a new heir with lily was for stella to drive over pip with a combine and go for it herself, thus inheriting both farms and becoming queen of ambridge

LillianGish · 14/09/2026 11:47

Why do people keep putting Lily and Brian together??? They are as good as related - she has known him since was a baby. They are both Archers to all intents and purposes. Also he’s in his 80s - I mean it’s just not going to happen.

TottersBlankly · 14/09/2026 12:13

I haven’t been quite sure if people are joking about that!

Madcats · 14/09/2026 12:24

LIly and Toby F dating would put the cat amongst the pigeons. Lizzie could remember that she owns a big vineyard and get Lily to organise a winetasting, hosted by a local expert.

It also struck me that Harrison is only a few years younger than Kirsty (yes, I know she is supposedly in a relationship with Jakob’s brother). It must be obvious to all that she is pregnant by now.

What happened to Harrison and his “born again Christian” self? He and Alan have been in the cast lists for the past few weeks, but I’m not sure they’ve spoken at all since Harrison returned to Ambridge, have they? I’m hoping that the SWs will remember that he was almost booted out of the police before his transfer….

I wonder if Fallon will try and refuse Harrison access to his own home now she is so obviously pissed off.

She needs to tread carefully as upsetting Lily could well cost her her lovely new job.

I wouldn't call being at the beck and call of the horrible Elizabeth a lovely job.

MorningCoffeePlease · 14/09/2026 13:42

BeatriceBatchelor · 13/09/2026 23:19

She sounded utterly deranged.

I wish Harrison had replied "no problem. I'll just move back into my house. Fallon, luv, pack your bags. You're moving in with your mum."

That's what he should have said, but he is just too damn nice for his own good.

RegimentalSturgeon · 14/09/2026 07:50

My flabber is somewhat gasted that, in a scenario involving both Lily and Fallon, it’s Fallon being described as the spoiled madam.

Edited

They both are, in their different ways.

H sounded a bit clunky when he said to L that this could be ‘long-term’. I don’t know anyone who would say that after a couple of dates, a few White Russians and a shag. That was v unlikely. He is a copper and supposedly lives in the real world yet he went along with F’s ludicrous instruction that he confesses all to Joelene there and then. And then allowed J to harangue him. He is being far too decent a pushover and really needs to toughen up and stop being so mousey.

I wish he had told J to back off and said he was moving back into the cottage and calling an estate agent in the morning to get the place on the market. Or he could advertise on the station WhatsApp group and get a lodger in to keep the mortgage ticking over if F moves out. There is bound to be a new PC looking for digs out there. He may even be able to pay F off and keep the cottage if he had a lodger. He has made sound financial choices and didn’t his parents help him with the mortgage originally so may be they could help again? Police salaries are not negligible so I actually think he could make the sums add up so he can stay. This is Ambridge, not Fulham, so how much can a two-bed cottage actually be?

I agree with this post, good thinking.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/09/2026 14:35

What's astonishing to me is that I genuinely don't think Lily was on Harrison's radar, but after a kiss and a shag he's now thinking long-term.
Doesn't surprise me. He's not looking for a girlfriend, he's a 41-yr old man desperate for a baby,

Lily OTOH is looking for a thrill and troo lurve. The attraction will disappear when she realises that he's dull and not terribly bright and sees women as a child-bearing vessel.
cf. George.

To be fair to Harrison, I think he did see Fallon as a person not a potential child-bearer, until he didn't.

Why do people keep putting Lily and Brian together??? They are as good as related ...
Because we can. They aren't related, they're connected. He's the widower of her mother's cousin.
She seems to go for older men and although Brian is old enough to be her grandfather, it would cause a lot of upset.
I don't think the SWs would push their luck that much.

What happened to Harrison and his “born again Christian” self?
We'll wait and see.

Kirsty's coming up to 6 months, I think. I'm basing this on it likely to be a Christmas baby as it's a soap opera, not on any scientific data. It will be delivered by Uncle Jakob, Rex or a beaver.

Madcats · 14/09/2026 15:42

If Harrison is scratching around for somewhere to live in Ambridge, he could always move to Greenacres. Alistair must be rattling around the place with Jazzer having moved out and Jim on his European adventures for the forseeable future. There is no real reason for him to remain in Ambridge, now that he has moved to a new job (presumably based in Borchester).

Presumably there has been a "new Harrison", for best part of a year. It would be rather lovely to have a Hot Fuzz/Archers mash-up, with Sergeant Nicholas Angel arriving to clear up all the unsolved cases.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 14/09/2026 15:44

Ooh, this all got a bit interesting, didn't it?!

Very much enjoyed Friday's episode, the acting was brilliant. And yes, Fallon was completely unreasonable - and she knew it - but she was also so very human. She's coping with the breakup with them being in some kind of together-but-not soft landing while she comes to terms with it or buries her head in the sand and suddenly there was a very blunt and final end to the whole thing. If only Harrison was a better liar or had held his tongue about it being Lily!

And as for the Lily/Harrison bunkup, I totally agree that she's looking for a temporary good time and a bit of drama, while he's looking for a womb to rent for Beybeh Burns Mark 2. And possibly 3, and 4...

Sorry ..I missed this ..did Harrison and Lily actually Do The Deed?

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/09/2026 15:53

Detached 2-bed character cottage in a sought after village could be £400K - £500K
It is next to the pub, I think, which would make it less desirable.

Yes, Harrison helped Lily carry some chairs home and it went from there. Nothing says romance like heaving furniture about...

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/09/2026 16:27

I like Elizabeth. We need to hear more from her.

DeanElderberry · 14/09/2026 16:31

We heard them waking up together, unbothered by any implications, but Lily also didn't indicate that she'd had the Best Time Ever, so maybe they dtd but it wasn't all that. Not for her, anyway.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/09/2026 16:59

I think we can deduce that the deed has been done. (Ugh!)

By saying I like Elizabeth I meant I like her as a character but the character isn't particularly likeable. Neither is Lily but Freddie is. And of course, I adored Nigel.

Gonners · 14/09/2026 19:05

I find myself increasingly "forgetting" to listen. Then I catch up and realise that I haven't missed anything of interest. Last night I enjoyed Laffing Len and Formerly Moany Tony having fun (up to a point, Lord Copper). The less we hear of Pat, the happier Tony sounds. But the Harrison/Lily story is plain dull and utterly unconvincing. Lily needs to tell him she doesn't want a bay-bee. And Jolene's absurd rage was ... well, just absurd.

I look forward to Kenton taking a swing at Harrison and falling over. Down the cellar steps and fatally, please.

And now I shall listen to tonight's delights!

MorningCoffeePlease · 14/09/2026 19:22

Funny I don't normally like Carol, but I did feel for her over the watch debacle. She just wanted it "as was". Poor Leonard, though.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/09/2026 19:22

What an absolute cow Carol is.

I could see that coming when he mentioned mending it. He should have asked.

TottersBlankly · 14/09/2026 19:38

Yup - I knew exactly what was going to happen with the watch!
