Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you also confide only in your budgie, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from [https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/5457344-the-archers-spoilers-thread-11-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here]], where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Not feeling greatly enthused about what's going on in Ambridge at the moment, tbh. I'm annoyed at Brian's hypocrisy about Ruairi given the furore over George's attempt to frame Alice as the cause of the accident. I do hope we don't have a slow drip drip drip now as one after another the members of the Aldridge/Archer clan find out what really happened and endlessly agonise over what to do. Frankly I don't care. There! I've said it.

Pip's OK. Well, good, but what was the point of that story, I wonder?

I suspect I'm in a minority of one in rather enjoying hearing (a) from Bert Horobin and (b) about Fletcher. I surmise Bert is here to stay for a while because the BBC has (amazingly) updated his character page: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1wQP3mKR6yr9LVs05jddxcY/bert-horrobin (prominent actor photo warning). Given how out of date a lot of the other character pages are, this seems odd, but there we are.

That's all I can be bothered to say! Over to you.

Autocorrect changed it from Borchester to Dorchester and I didn't notice.

Happened to me last week in the spoilers thread! (Which reminds me….)

Dane cried when Helen dumped him. Praise be we didn’t hear that.

Please don’t let Erik be dead. He can come and live in Ambridge. Is he also a vet? Can’t remember.

Tears of relief and happiness, perhaps.

Poor Sophe. (This is how it's spelled in the cast list. Odd.)

Den is not just an abysmal father, Sophe said before she met him he'd not worked for years. She has presumably chivvied him into getting his courier job. Good for her, but I know what the MN Relationships board would have advised if she'd posted about Den and asked if she was making a big mistake marrying him.

God, Helen is atrocious, so overbearing. She's going to be appalling throughout Kirsty's pregnancy. And she's bound to blab even though Kirsty asked her to tell no one. God knows why Kirsty wanted Helen to be there with her when she did the test, that was strange.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 23/04/2026 20:11

I'm not God, but I know why! It's so there could be dialogue about it on the radio, rather than just Kirsty telling Helen what the result had been – as would happen in real life.

Gonners · 23/04/2026 22:21

I loathe Helen because ... well, who wouldn't? And Kirsty is simply an idiot with a very irritating voice. I wish them both DOOM.

This got me too. I imagine it's because you can't do the blue line test on radio and the SWs wanted all the backstory to come out too.

BeardieWeirdie · 23/04/2026 23:26

I’m so happy for Kirsty (in a nice, normal person way rather than a batshit Helen way) and very relieved to hear that Eric is still alive and well, for now! God knows Kirsty deserves some happiness.

Nos4r2 · 24/04/2026 06:37

I hope Kirsty has the baby and all will be well with her.
Helen is awful, its all about money with her.

Gonners · 24/04/2026 07:07

It strikes me that Ambridge is rather heavy on single/separated/divorced/widowed parents.

TherapistInATabard · 24/04/2026 07:39

My heart broke for Chelsea when Den started wanging on about having a new family, when he’s ignored her and Brad for years.

Chris and Rex drinking together chatting happily in the pub really threw me. Chris has been so surly and rude, why the turnaround?

Oh Adam. Adam, Adam, Adam.

So do I.

Geronimode · 24/04/2026 12:53

V old poster with new username. Haven’t been here in a while but popped by to say the Ambridge Health Fairy better be working overtime for the next 9 months. I’m not Kirsty’s biggest fan but if anything bad happens to her, I’ll be bidding farewell to Ambridge.

RuairiDonovan · 24/04/2026 13:55

I am Kirsty's biggest fan. I love her character and her voice.
I hope Kirsty has the baby and all will be well with her. Me too.

Helen is awful, its all about money with her.
It's not. It's all about Helen with her. Always about what she wants with no consideration for others.
I wouldn't be surprised if a little Daynetta was on the way. After all, 47-yr old Helen has slept with a man recently. She also managed to conceive on demand (if not necessarily her own) in the past. if not, she'll probably be on the next flight to Aberdeen to procreate with Finlay.

There's a shortage of young Archers and you know it would make sense.

Sidebeforeself · 24/04/2026 14:31

Kristy’s voice really irritates me . She does a lot of little “oohs” for some reason. I remember her doing it when she was waving to everyone on the way to the wedding with Tom.But I do hope she has a healthy baby and her relationship works out. ( mainly to piss off Helen!)

RuairiDonovan · 24/04/2026 16:08

Had I just found out I was pregnant or been on my way to my wedding I'd be doing lots of little oohs as well but not if the groom was Tom Archer.

I hope Erik turns out to be a good 'un.

Gonners · 24/04/2026 16:39

@RuairiDonovan I wouldn't be surprised if a little Daynetta was on the way...

If so, Helen will probably try to claim it's Finlay's!

RuairiDonovan · 24/04/2026 17:15

That had crossed my mind but little Henlay didn't quite sound right.
The Kirstik will be ignored because with Helen it's 'Me, me, me'.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/04/2026 17:28

I'm not going to pollute the thread with <gulp> actor pictures, but if you google Mark Bonnar (Finlay) and Stavros Demetraki (Dane) they are very different physical types (similar height, but Stavros seems a bit more muscular, as well as being very Mediterranean looking), so I don't think Helen would get away with that.

OP posts:
BeardieWeirdie · 24/04/2026 22:24

I don’t think Helen could cope with the shame of having three children by three different men. I’d love for someone to point out that’s one more than even Emma Grundy.

RuairiDonovan · 24/04/2026 22:46

Her aunt had 4 children by 3 different men. It would be different for Helen because she's Helen.

echt · 24/04/2026 22:56

Oh dear. Poor Adam. On the other hand Brine wouldn't let him have the farm anyway, He only values Adam's immediate usefulness. Now he has a quasi-excuse.

I did like the Chris and Rex chat. Not often fundamental issue or two gets sorted in one conversation.

Nos4r2 · 25/04/2026 07:06

Yes poor Adam, Brian will blow his top when he finds out what Adam is doing,(and he will).
Its funny but noone wants to say anything to Rhurai, perhaps if they did they would notice he is more likely to be nervous and scared than Brian having dementia. It's all got a bit out of hand now. What will the family say when they find out about Brian's big cover up.
I hope Amanda doesn't take him back, he treated her terribly.
Yes Helen is all about Helen, but she loves money too, she is so self involved, when she said that Dane was caught off guard when she finished with him, I bet he was relieved.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/04/2026 07:23

Miranda? (Autocorrect says pirhana)

BeatriceBatchelor · 25/04/2026 08:34

So they were at The Bull celebrating Elizabeth's birthday and we didn't hear from her or her offspring? Apparently, she was "round the corner with Jill and Ruth." Great! Let's hear them chatting.

Gonners · 25/04/2026 09:11

It's just struck me that I've never known anyone called Miranda. I only associate the name with Hilaire Belloc's wonderful Tarantella.
